"We would highly recommend Revitalize Renovations. They were hired to build a dock. Their pricing was fair. Their customer service was excellent, and their craftsmanship was outstanding. They completed the job in a timely manner and demonstrated the high-level of professionalism throughout the entire process. We appreciated their input on the best way to complete the project. It was thoughtful and spot on. We have hired them in the past for other projects and will confidently recommend and hire them again in the future. "

"Casey and his crews came in and did: a complete deck replacement, installed a new electrical box, placed fencing and gates (wood and chainlink), painted the house, and stained the new deck and fencing. Overall, the projects turned out good. He was able to work with us through several changes during the project - while we added and modified a couple of minor things. However, there were a couple of glaring issues that left something to be desired. The main issue was communication. Casey said that he would be there on-site through the process. He was only on-site a few times, and most of the time only when there were issues that we brought to his attention. There were a couple of times where crews showed up unannounced and unscheduled! Casey seemed like it did not matter much when it was brought to his attention that this would not work because we have dogs that needed to be put up and can not do it last minute. Even after this was addressed, Casey would show up himself to our house without giving us notice. The only other issue we had was with the quality of the work. One of his crews came out to pressure wash the house, left trash in our flowerbeds, and did not complete the pressure wash on our metal roof correctly. However, he did send out a crew the next week to finish it up. The wood gates on the fencing and porch have several issues with shutting correctly, and one of the larger gates was not secured properly and almost fell on our daughter! All that being said, all of these issues were worked through and our project was finally complete. The main issue I had with Casey was his lack of customer service. Anytime an issue was brought to his attention he had a way of turning it back around on you, making it feel like it was something you had done or that it just should not be an issue. That was the most frustrating part of this whole process. At best he was nonchalant and at worst he was aggressive."

"Mel Madaris and the workers were very professional and friendly. Mel was patient and answered all my questions. They started work on the agreed date and finished in a timely manner. An old deck landing and stairs were removed and a new deck and stairs were built. Also, the old load bearing posts and railing on the front poach was removed and replaced. I am very pleased with the work done and will use them again for other projects. I highly recommend them."

"We wanted to build a large covered deck using Trex. We also wanted to add a covered porch over existing pavers. We got many quotes and some people could do the deck but not add to our roofline to do the covered porch. We met with Anthony, and he made several bold statements. 1.His crew were all employees of Foskey. 2. His partner Dan would be onsite during construction. 3. They would finish on the agreed upon time (weather permitting). 4. We would be happy with the quality of their work. He delivered on all of those plus a few along the way. We could not be happier with our new deck and porch. Dan even suggested that he add planters at each end. That was the best suggestion period. They built a 14 ft long bar to put food on or even sit and eat at. We added a marble top, but what impressed and surprised us was all of the wood was covered with Trex to give a professional finish. We could not be happier and ca not say enough good things about Foskey Construction."

"ECS recently installed new siding, shutters, doors and porch railing. There were some delays due to the holidays, but I am very pleased with the result. The service I received was exemplary. Any concern I had was addressed very quickly and to my satisfaction. My primary contact was Elisa and she was amazing."

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Soddy Daisy, TN

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
