"Parker and his crew did an outstanding job replacing our old driveway with new asphalt. From start to finish, they were professional, punctual, and easy to work with. The team worked quickly without cutting corners, and their efficiency really stood out. They kept the area clean, communicated clearly throughout the process, and delivered results that exceeded our expectations. The new driveway looks fantastic, and you can tell they take pride in their work. I highly recommend Parker and his guys to anyone looking for quality workmanship and a smooth, stress-free experience."

"Exceptional!!! I cannot recommend them enough. Please call the owner, Rodrigo Ortiz. You will be sooooo glad you did!!! He installed new sod for me in my whole backyard, as well as soil/mulch, and it looks beautiful!! He also installed more dirt in part of the yard to even out the ground, and planted new plants, as well as trimming all plants in the front and back, and mulching the front. My yards finally look finished now!! He walked through the entire process with me, kept in constant phone contact, gave me great pricing, and had all of this work done in a matter of days. He can handle anything and everything. Please contact him about any landscape project you have, no matter how large or small, and he and hus team will do a wonderful, professional job. I highly recommend them!"

"Nick, Justin, and their team did excellent work. <br /> The team was punctual and professional, and Nick and Justin were friendly with good suggestions for the project.  They worked efficiently, were considerate of driveway access around the equipment they used, and left a clean job site at the end of each day. <br /> The excavation and wall installation were done exactly as promised, and on budget.  As part of the excavation, Justin was able to even out the previously roughly-tiered slope behind the wall.  And he was flexible in doing some additional leveling work to give us more usable space.  One design request initially didn't make it to the on-site team; once Nick & Justin learned of it, they immediately sent out a guy to complete that request. <br /> I marked responsiveness at a B because their high volume of work means you'll likely need to plan well in advance or be OK with a delayed start.  When Nick gave me the quote in mid-May, he alerted me that they had a substantial queue and didn't expect to get to our project until early August.  They actually got on site in late September.  My schedule was not time-sensitive and I pinged Nick a few times to get updated estimates.  Nick's voicemail will warn you about high call volumes and delayed response--absolutely true, but they will get back to you.  <br /> It was worth the wait and my wife and I are very satisfied with the result.  The wall is clean, level, professional, and blends in perfectly with the existing work. <br /> We will certainly look to Nick & Justin for future landscaping projects--they have a genuine interest in getting the work done well & right. <br />"

"Amazing! Darrick responded to my email request from his website the same day. We met at my house the following day to discuss what I needed/wanted done. Since I am getting ready to put my house up for sale, he suggested other things he could do that would add a little extra pizzazz to my small neglected yard. Such as a fresh layer of gravel to my small driveway, bark mulch in the flower beds and a little decorative rock, scrape moss off the sidewalks, edging, mowing, planting a few flowers and a rhody, hauling off old yard garbage and yard debris piles I had accumulating, trimming bushes and trees, etc. To my surprise, he was able to squeeze me in the next day! He showed up in the morning with a crew, and busted it out within just a few hours.... all I can say is WOW! He met and exceeded my expectations! I am beyond pleased, and satisfied with his work. I cannot say what a relief it is to find someone like Darrick who will listen, and do the work you ask for, plus more! Might I add for a very reasonable and fair price as well. Thank you very much Darrick for adding some much needed curb appeal to my little yard."

"My home had two pathways on the north and south sides of our house that we had put in ourselves. The north pathway (rock & cement) was very uneven and moss had made it slick over time. The south pathway was a gravel path with circular cement steppingstones where the stones had shifted position over time. There was also a cement slab off the driveway leading to the gravel path. Both the north and south pathways were uneven to walk on or move anything across its surface. After 29 years, it was time to replace both pathways. I happened to encounter System Pavers at the Portland Outdoor Living Show and contacted them. Design consultant, Lidiana, kept her appointment promptly, she was friendly, and provided good selection choices, lots of examples, and brochures on how I could redesign the pathways. I liked the fact that System Pavers seemed very professional, reliable, and willing to guarantee their work and paving projects. Therefore, I proceeded with signing up for the pathways to be replaced by System Pavers. It was about a week or so later that the project manager, Matt, came out to assess and verify the plans and measurements initially done by Lidiana. I encountered delays in scheduling (a week later from what was originally scheduled) so I had to reschedule all my appointments in order to clear my schedule so I could be available for the crew while the construction was in progress. I wanted to be on-site at home in case there were any questions. The materials for the job were delivered on a Wednesday to my driveway, several days in advance of the work starting, and I was concerned about the materials (i.e. theft concern) since the crew didn’t start until the following Monday. Once the entire project was completed, there were about 2-1/2 pallets of materials leftover that the crew advised were going to the “dump” and I was asked if I wanted any of the leftover material. For this reason, I question why too much material was ordered considering both the design consultant and project manager took measurements of the existing pathways before ordering the materials for the pathways project. I was NOT credited for the excess materials. Which is why I am giving a rating of 4 not 5 stars. The 3-man System Pavers crew started on a Monday and took a week to complete both pathways by the end of the week on Friday. The crew’s start times varied at the start of the week but by mid-week they started about 8am. The crew worked very hard and even worked in the pouring rain on one of the days. From lifting and removing the old steppingstones & gravel, using a jack hammer to remove the old concrete and rock path, removing the dirt & gravel, etc.; the crew did a great job of tearing up and removing the old paths. Then the 3-man crew worked tirelessly to install the layers (gravel, cement, mesh, bricks, polymer sand, etc.) to build both north and south pathways. The crew tried their best to clean up the rocks, dirt, and debris on my driveway as best as they could. Herman even did a great job in moving two of the sprinkler heads so they would be out of the pathway to make for a more aesthetic appearance. I appreciate the crew answering my questions (i.e. Rodger) and being very accommodating to my requests while the work was in progress. Project Manager, Matt L. was very professional. He ensured that the crew did not disrupt or cut any underground cables nor damage sprinklers in place. It gave me peace of mind knowing he was on top of that. He responded to my “text” questions promptly every step of the project. I’m ecstatic about the look of the new pathways… they both look fantastic!! The new pathways really improve the look of the yard. What a relief too, to finally be able to walk on an “even” path. I’m so glad I had System Pavers replace the pathways. Overall, I’m very pleased with the new pathways and the quality of their work. I would recommend System Pavers for their paving work."

"They were informational in letting us know we had some problems that needed to be addressed and they were prompt in getting someone else to help us install that. I would use them in the future and they will be back in the spring."

"I'd noticed my carport no longer seemed to be squared up, one corner (downhill) a bit lower than the other three. Matt came out and determined that actually a couple of the corners were off. He sorted it all out, squared things up, replaced a couple of posts and it's good as new."

"<p> <br /> <br /></p> <p>We wanted to pass on how happy we are with our new patio! Early this summer we came into your Prairie Road office to inquire about putting in the new patio and you referred us to three different landscape contractors. (Lane Forest Products gave the referral.) We selected Schelsky’s Landscape and our experience with them was simply terrific! Our primary contact with Schelsky’s was Darrin but the entire crew was professional, courteous, and friendly. The job was done efficiently and within the time they said it would take to complete the patio. We really appreciated the way they listened to the goal we had for the project. We wanted to create a courtyard effect with the new patio and tie in the existing aggregate sections so that everything tied together. They more than met our expectations! Since we will be doing container gardening they put drip lines in that run off of the old sprinkler heads around the patio that no longer water lawn. Our new ‘courtyard’ is like adding another room on to the house! By the way, the crew took great care to ensure that the lawn was protected and, where necessary, was reseeded. You would never know that all the materials, a bobcat, and other equipment had been on the site!</p> <p> <br /> <br /></p> <p>Many neighbors have come by and commented on how nice the ‘courtyard’ is and we’ve given out Lane Forest and Schelsky’s references. Hopefully this has resulted in additional business for both companies.</p> <p> <br /> <br /></p> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <p> <br /> <br /></p> <br />"

"This company hauled away a 450 sqt. foot pine deck, an old recliner, an old wood water bed frame, a stove, a toilet, a heavy pile of concrete remnants from an old patio that I jack hammered out, a houseful of old carpet, several wood pallets, and many bags of garbage and cardboard and did it in less than 2 hours. They stuck to their estimate which was much lower than any other estimate I got from other companies. I will definitely being using them again in the future."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Springfield, OR

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
