"They called to move our first appointment up, which I thought was great. Showed up on time looked at the job and gave me a quote in about 5 minutes. I thought the quote was very good so I ask when they could get it done and was told he would have someone there in the morning which was wonderful. Very friendly crew from start to finish for the entire process was 24 hours and the driveway looks great and the neighbors want to know who did the job. I would say they will have more work in our neighborhood. I plan to have them install a new fence for me next."

"This company got shoveled of all the snow in our driveway, sidewalk and steps. Very professional and punctual. They did a wonderful job. This company risked their lives by driving to our house as secondary roads on their route still had snow. The crew were extremely kind and patient. My husband and I have had health issues, so we were not able to do this ourselves. We would hire again."

"Very professional, hardworking and detail oriented. Went above and beyond. Hired their services to clear out a large overrun wooded area with leaves, pine cones and needles, sticks and fallen tries, as well as trim several shrubs and mulch. Cleared everything out of the wooded area quick all while it was raining, making the job much harder. Cut a defined edge around all our flower beds and spread out 13.5 yards of mulch nice and thick, again in the rain. Turned out really well. Highly recommend their services, will use them again for future projects."

Customers say: Quality work

"I’ve had difficulty finding someone to make repairs to my existing irrigation system. Everyone wants to install but not do repairs when a valve breaks or head needs replaced or there is a leak - seems to be a real shortage in the Hickory region of people who will do irrigation repairs. That was my problem until we found Austin with 828 Landscape. He is professional, a good communicator and is totally about finding the problem and fixing it. I almost hesitate to post this review because then he’ll get too busy to work on my system when I need him."

"The contractor was easy to get in touch with and very quick to schedule the delivery. The driver dropped the stone while I was not at home and as instructed dropped the stone in various sections of the driveway to make it easier for me to spread. I will certainly use the contractor again and have recommended them to friends. <br />"

"I had a messy situation with a leaking irrigation sprinkler head. I had no idea what the extent of the problem was. A neighbor recommended this company and they were able to come out immediately and see what I needed and fix the problem the same day. It turned out to be a relatively easy fix by replacing the sprinkler head, and I was so pleased that I could trust them to do the job At a very reasonable price! I Then ask them if they could install an Asian rock garden for me and they did a great job, again at a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend them to all of my friends."

"Island Creek Landscape was amazing!  They had the work done in less time than we imagined and had to work in some bad weather conditions.  The patio and firepit look amazing and we couldn't be happier.  The team even went above and beyond my moving dirt into areas of our yard that needed some work - they also fixed our fence gate during the install.   <br /> The cleanup was immaculate and we were ready to use the patio when they finished on a Friday.   <br /> I've already started recommending Island Creek to my friends! <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Statesville, NC

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
