"My husband and I had been dying to do our 2 bathrooms and kitchen since we moved in and decided to go with Hunter. They were very professional and courteous from the consultation to the last day of work. They were able to finish ahead of the discussed deadline; within our determined budget; and most importantly it came out looking beautiful! We will definitely be calling this company again next time we need contractors."

"Nicholas L. Faustini Architect PC is the "Top Shelf" of Westchester County. Nick and his team helped us to build out an assembly space in Yonkers. "We contacted owner Nicholas Miller on the strong recommendation of a friend, for whom he had done similar repairs also on an older home. Mr. Miller impressed us from the outset as an honest and competent tradesman, familiar with the construction issues in a home the age of ours and in the carpentry trade. He worked hard and very efficiently; the projects moved much faster than we had expected. He used quality materials and his craftsmanship was excellent. Nicholas sought our input on decisions appropriately; we felt respected and that our best interests were always foremost. He was an absolute delight to work with; we recommend him highly."

"<p>They couldn't have been more professional! Dealing with them was a pleasure; they arrived at the agreed upon time and commenced with their work.  All the gentlemen were very hard working as the footings needed to be dug by hand and very precise.  The job they did was exceptional.</p> <p>The only (minor) issue I had is that they recommended moving the slab further back from my driveway and installing an apron from the driveway to the slab.  I agreed with their suggestion and told them to go ahead with it.  They installed the slab and left.  I  waited a week then called asking when they would return to install the apron.  They indicated, the apron was not in the original estimate and the apron would cost an additional  $1,000 (even though they used less concrete for the slab than originally estimated).  I wondered why they would recommend something and not indicate the additional expense.  At this point, I had no choice but to come up with the additional $1,000 since I couldn't easily get to the garage without the apron.</p> <p>The bottom line is they are a great company to work with; they did a wonderful job at a reasonable price.  The township representatives who came inspect their work (required) indicated their jobs have always been done well.</p> <br />"

"I own a historic home that was recently condemned due to a small fire. In a panic, we got involved with a “fire engine chasing” renovation company. In the first couple of days/weeks, they exhausted almost a third of our coverage with no detectible effect. Once we ended our relationship with the first company, we hired Credence “to the rescue”. Credence not only repaired the fire damage, but they also emptied and refreshed every room, closet, and hall in the entire building. Credence worked closely with the insurance company, local government, and the building inspector to clean up compliance issues, get the utilities turned back on, and re-issue our C of O. If you’re planning to build a new home or renovate an old home…call Credence first!"

"His attention to detail, fair pricing, and willingness to provide valuable input and design ideas for the project made working with Tony a great experience. NYS Construction has a very respectful and talented crew- if Tony is not on the job on a particular day, I felt very comfortable that Tony was also very helpful in recommending very competent tradesman outside of his area of expertise (plumbing, electric, drywall)."

FAQs for garage building service projects in Suffern, NY

A well‑constructed, properly permitted detached garage adds between $12,000 and $36,000 to a home’s resale value. Buyers appreciate the secure parking, extra storage, and flexible workspace, so appraisers often bump the property’s value accordingly. The exact return depends on the garage’s size, finishes, and how well it matches the main house, but most homeowners see a strong ROI when the build meets local codes and passes inspection.

Yes—once it meets local building codes and you secure the proper permits, a detached garage can be converted into living space. Finishing the interior, adding climate control, and ensuring safe egress effectively increase your usable square footage, though it may not always count toward the official listing. Skipping permits can trigger fines and even force you to undo the work, so always clear plans with your city first.

Most homeowners policies cover a detached garage under the “other structures” provision, but coverage limits vary. Review your declarations page and ask your agent how much protection you have for separate structures. If the limit is lower than the garage’s replacement cost, you can raise it for a modest premium. Confirming the details now prevents headaches if you ever need to file a claim.
