"They arrived on time and installed the unit and new thermostat. The technicians seemed pretty knowledgeable and helped give suggestions about some vents that weren't blowing enough air."

I highly recommend their annual service contract.  Keeps your furnace in top shape, plus offers membership benefits.  Have used these people for years.  Very responsive, professional and nice to deal with.

"n. A new tenant is moving into an unoccupied house we own. She had family staying there the night before move-in (after notifying us) and they informed us that the furnace was producing no heat. we contacted the gas company and they sent a man out to check, and he confirmed that not only was the igniter bad, but when he did the mandatory safety check he discovered that the heat exchanger was cracked, rendering the furnace dangerous to use.
We called up Angies List on the computer  and started going down the list of heating and cooling companies; Ranger said that they had had a cancellation the next day, and could a rep over to give an estimate that afternoon, with install the next morning!
Jeremy came over for the estimate, arriving a little earlier than the original estimate. He looked over the installation site, and gave us our options, including advising us that the two more expensive models were probably not necessary for a relatively small house. The paperwork was signed, and an appointment was made for approximately 9 AM the next morning, with estimated time of completion at 1 PM.
At a bout 8 Am we received a call that the crew was on their way, and would it be a problem if they started early? We called the tenant's sister (staying in house to help with move) and she said that they would be up and about, and the quicker the better, so we said "sure."
At about 10:30, we got a call that the work was complete--2 and a half hours early!
As we arrived we were met in the driveway by Brandon. He took us inside, putting on boot covers before entering the home. He explained to us exactly what was done, including what older parts were reused and which new ones were installed; he also made sure we knew where the literature/manual was stored, and the service sticker. The work area looked vary clean to us, and the tenant's sister confirmed that they had been vary careful to lay down floor covers, and to clean up after the job was done. (The dogs also seemed to be happy with Brandon.)
While we recognize that we got lucky to have been able to find a business that was able to get us into their schedule so quickly, we are very happy with the work done and would definitely recommend them to any friends and neighbors who needed a furnace or water heater installed.

"Our existing AC unit stopped working. The unit is at it's life end and was not something we purchased from Puyallup heating. It came with our home when we purchased it. Jason diagnosed the problem in a professional and courteous manner. I felt like the service was worth the price. We have used Puyallup heating for service or estimates in the past and always felt like we were getting honest service.

"I called SOS and Daniel agreed to come out the same day to give me an estimate.  He explained the work that he would do very carefully, making sure that I understood the amount of work required and why.  He also noted that there was an issue with one of the vents which he would repair at the same time to avoid pests entering the area.  When I wasn't quite clear on what he was talking about, he said that he would take pictures when/if he did the work which would show me the current state and the after pictures.  He seemed very honest and anxious to please and I had a gut impulse to give him the work, but I had already scheduled another estimate so I just accepted the estimate.
I got another estimate which was a little lower than Daniel's and I still wanted to give the work to him so I called and asked if he would match the other estimate.  He agreed and we set an appointment a few days out.  He estimated that it would take them about a day and a half.  They completed the work in one long day because Daniel said that it would be less 'bother' for me if I had only to endure the noise (compressor) for one day.  He carefully explained the work done and the repairs that he made for me and even sent pictures to me via e-mail the following day.  I was confident that everything in my crawlspace was now without issues and within a couple of days, as the weather  cooled, I was aware of how much warmer my home was.
The only issue was that I discovered the next day that their vehicle has left some oil stains on my driveway even though I had seen them put cardboard under it when they first came.  When the truck was taken out and returned, the precaution must not have been effective.  I sent an e-mail to Daniel that day telling him about the issue as I didn't want him to make the same mistake at another client's home.  The next morning I looked out the window and saw him on his hands and knees trying to clean up the stains.  He spent a couple of hours at it.  He had been certain that precautions had been in place and was sincerely apologetic about the accident.  Because he was clearly so sorry about the accident and all the work was done very well and efficiently, I still graded them as "A' in all categories.  Accidents happen and he thought all precautions had been taken to avoid such an issue.

"G&S did an excellent job installing our new furnace and AC unit. The best thing about G&S is that they warranty for 1 year. The circuit board in our furnace failed within a couple of months (no fault of G&S). Manufacturers warranty would cover the parts cost but G&S repaired and covered labor cost under their warranty. Also they diagnosed the issue and repaired very quickly. Definitely A++ installation and service."

FAQs for window a/c unit service or relocation projects in Tacoma, WA

If your window air conditioner is relatively new or of high quality, repairing it can restore optimal performance and protect your investment. However, for older units or those with ongoing issues, it might be more cost-effective to replace the unit to ensure long-term efficiency and reliability. Consider the unit's age, the severity of the problem, repair costs versus replacement, and energy efficiency ratings when making your decision. If repairs cost more than half the price of a new unit, replacement is typically the better option.

Window air conditioners last eight to ten years on average. After this time, you may notice decreased efficiency and component wear. Replacing an older unit can improve energy savings and provide updated features like remote controls and better overall performance. With proper maintenance including regular filter cleaning, coil checks, and professional servicing, you can maximize your unit's lifespan.

If your portable AC isn't cooling, it might have a refrigerant leak or a circuit malfunction that's preventing it from working properly. It's best to contact a local air conditioner contractor to inspect and repair the unit. If your AC is older and repairs don't fix the issue, replacing it might be the most effective solution.

Removing a wall-mounted AC costs $55 to $75. Completing the removal yourself at the end of each summer season, being sure to do so according to proper guidelines, keeps you within this cost range. Should you require professional assistance for removal and disposal, if you can't move the unit yourself, expect an added fee of $25 to $50 to the overall cost.
