"I was concerned about moisture in my basement and decided to utilized Managed Service Group for a second opinion. Scott, the contractor, was upfront, honest, and told me what the problem was. He did not come out with 10 plus men to rip out my basement like JES Foundation Company wanted to do. Thank you Scott for saving me thousands of dollars. I will definitely use and recommend this company to others."

"The process went very smoothly.  There were several teams that worked on my project.  The initial workers removed all of the old insulation and trash left under the house during construction, and cleaned the joists.  Later a perimeter drain system was installed, and the final job was to insulate the foundation perimeter and install the vapor barrier.   <br /> <br /> All the work was done in a professional manner and the workers were all very courteous.  They were on time and on budget."
Unsealed porous foundation walls. Efflorescence has grown along the outside walls.
Plastic is laid out to protect the freshly pained walls and floor.
Open vents in the foundation walls allow outside air and moisture to infiltrate the crawl space, increasing the relative humidity and allowing mold spores to thrive inside.
Spray foam application in progress on warehouse walls.
The dirt floor is exposed, which will allow the moisture from the earth to rise uncontested into the crawl space, adding to the increase in relative humidity.

"I hired them for some spray foam, but once they got into the space, they discovered that the work that they needed to do didn't need to get done. They could have just done the job, but they let me know that it wasn't needed. Such honesty is greatly appreciated. If I need some work done on the foundation or attic, I will most certainly work with them again. They are courteous, communicative, and provide excellent service. Simon was fantastic to work with."

"The crew arrived on the date/time promised. They were polite, professional, and worked non-stop (except for 2 short breaks and lunch). Because of my landscaping, the crew determined the best way to get to the bottom of the foundation was to dig a hole—24” x 8’. It was truly impressive—perfectly squared off. They sealed the wall, replaced the dirt, and replaced decorative stone. They then installed a 50’ French drain—trenching, refilling the trench, and removing excess debris. The crew worked as a team, did a top-notch job, and left the job sites better than they found them. It took them 4 days—and they never wavered from an extraordinary work ethic. That was last week. This week? We’ve had torrential downpours and flooding—but my basement and garage are dry. I’d hire them again in a heartbeat."

"Freddy was very professional and knowledgeable and explained that the water issues were not the result of foundation issues and explained what he could do if i wanted a dry basement. He did not try to sell me something that i did not need."

"The work was good and was completed on time. Working with Trey was easy and he was very polite & professional the entire time. However, we have two complaints. 1) They (Rob) said they would provide a quote for us for to finish our stairs and hang drywall but they never did. I'm assuming they were too busy with other waterproofing jobs, but a simple "I'm sorry, we are unable to do that" would have been fine. I called at least 2-3 times to follow up on the 2nd quote with no returned phone calls. 2) They removed the carpet on our stairs to complete the job (totally fine), however, they never put it back and left our basement stairs bare with nails sticking out of them."

"Creative Conservation has a storefront shop in Ashland, VA, which I visited. The staff showed me the different types of insulation and I asked for an appointment for an estimator to come out. I promptly heard back from the estimator and we set a date for the next week. The estimator showed up on time and said he would be sending an estimate soon. I felt that I had to wait a little longer than I expected. It was at least one week later before I received the estimate by email. The estimate was not well-written or explicit which later led to difficulties as I will explain. When I decided to hire this company, I sent a copy of the estimate back with a check for one-half of the amount. This was not required or at least there were no instructions as to how much of a deposit was needed. On receipt of my check, I promptly received a call and the installation date was determined. <br /> On the assigned date, two installers arrived on time and began by placing lots of plastic sheeting throughout the area of my house where they would be trekking back and forth removing the old dirty insulation and boards. The workers were polite and considerate as well as careful with my home. The head worker was not aware that the estimator had promised to do work in the 4th attic area and did not have enough product to do the work. This was not his fault. The fault lay with the estimator that I found out had been dismissed from the company. So the head worker called the company to get his manager to decide what to do about the 4th storage area and to get additional insulation for the job. The company was very swift in sending additional supplies and a manager came to the house to look at the 4th space. <br /> Because the estimator was at fault, the manager said he would authorize that the 4th space would be included in the original estimate. I thought this was generous. I know that the company did not make as much money as they would have liked. The manager obviously wanted to preserve his company's integrity and I appreciated that he did not question my word or motives. I was also pleased that instead of installing R-19 batting the company used R-30 for the entire job. The estimator had specified R-19. <br /> The work took a little longer than anticipated but I thought the men did well to do the entire job in just one additional hour. The men had been delayed by the problems with the estimate but they were efficient in their work and were well-supported by the company reaching a quick solution to these last minute discrepancies. I think it is worth asking Creative Conservation for an estimate when you are shopping for insulation installers. <br /> <br />"

"I was satisfied with every aspect of our crawl space encapsulation process. Doug Harkey came out and provided a very detailed estimate, including a detailed sketch of my crawl space and pictures of problem areas. His estimate was reasonable and provided several options in different price ranges to accommodate us financially. I especially liked the videos he included so we would know exactly what to expect during the encapsulation. Prior to the job commencing, their electrician came out to install a new circuit for our new dehumidifier. His work was done quickly and efficiently, and the new circuit was run with no damage to our drywall. Another crew also came one morning to replace our crawl space access doors with insulated doors. All work was very timely and professional. When Jesse Marshall and his crew showed up on the week of the encapsulation, they arrived early as scheduled and stayed on the job all day each day until the job was completed. Jesse and his crew were very professional and friendly and set to work quickly removing all of our old insulation and vapor barrier and sprayed all wood surfaces with mold inhibitor. They clearly communicated what they would accomplish each day and they made steady progress until the job was completed. The new vapor barrier and rigid insulation was professionally installed and permanently fastened to my foundation wall and all seams were neatly taped. As an engineer, I crawled under the house at the end of the job, and I found nothing wrong with the installation. We got exactly what we paid for. The AprilAire dehumidifier was much quieter than I thought it would be and I'm pleased with its installation and performance. Makes about as much noise as our refrigerator. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with our decision to hire Stable Foundations. I would definitely hire them again if needed."

FAQs for foundation, basement or crawlspace waterproofing / encapsulation projects in Tappahannock, VA

The most affordable way to waterproof your basement is with interior methods like waterproof paint, costing between $1 and $8 per square foot, or silicate concrete sealers priced at $4 to $6 per square foot. However, these solutions are only suitable for certain issues. If your basement moisture is due to more serious problems like a cracked foundation, you'll need more extensive (and costly) repairs.

Absolutely! Waterproofing your basement is a smart investment that can increase your home's value. By keeping your basement dry and free of moisture problems, you protect your home's structural integrity and make it more appealing to potential buyers. Plus, taking proactive measures now can prevent costly water damage repairs down the line.

The time required to waterproof a basement depends on the selected method. Some approaches to interior waterproofing, like paint or sealant, can be completed within a day. Installing new drains or weeping tiles will need at least two to three days of labor. Any forms of exterior waterproofing that require you to excavate land will require an additional three days of work to prepare the ground.

Yes, basement waterproofing can significantly increase your home's value. A dry, leak-free basement is a strong selling point for potential buyers, enhancing your property's desirability and market price. Investing in professional waterproofing not only protects your home's structural integrity but also ensures a healthier living environment by preventing mold and mildew growth.

Waterproofing both the interior and exterior of your basement offers the best protection against moisture. Exterior waterproofing stops water from penetrating your foundation, while interior methods manage any moisture that does enter. If you must choose one, exterior waterproofing is generally more effective, as it prevents water from reaching your home's interior in the first place.
