Customers say: Quick response

"We recently had Joe and Nate from NXT Generation Construction build a deck for us and we are thrilled with our decision. Right from the beginning, they were prompt, professional and competitive on their estimate. Work commenced when promised, the materials they used and the quality of their workmanship were excellent, and they were a pleasure to work with. We absolutely recommend them! We're enjoying our new deck and we've received several compliments on how it turned out. NXT Generation Construction will definitely be our first call on the next project."

"Really pleased with my new deck. The work was completed quickly and looks amazing. I wish they'd removed the leftover building materials but that's a minor thing. Definitely recommend"

"They were honest, helpful and fast. 50year transferable warranty was a great bonus. Not the cheapest in western Mass, though the price was reasonable. They were well worth the little extra to feel like we could trust them. We love our new roof and they even hooked up our bathroom fan vent for us last minute. Very nice guys."

"

Historical home required rotten wood replacement ? numerous locations around the house require replacement or repair of external wood siding, trim work - excellent workmanship very happy with work performed.

External Paint  sanding (prep) ? wet sanding of the home went quickly and very clean  - superb workmanship very happy with work

External Paint tape (prep)- this is where the project was very slow and time seem to take forever to complete ? 2 weeks of taping .

External Paint ? primer coat - excellent workmanship very happy 1 day

External Paint ? base color 2 coats - excellent workmanship took too long to complete-  8 days

External Paint ? trim color - excellent workmanship took too long to complete- 5 days

If you are not looking to get house done quickly 1-2 weeks then these are the guys for you excellent work but slow

"We were very pleased with the design, attention to detail and finished product. The entrance to deck is the slider off of our kitchen. The work dramatically improved our outdoor space while simultaneous expanding our kitchen/entertaining space such that guests can enjoy indoor or outdoor dining or a combination of both. Great job, strongly recommend!"

"It went very well. Wes is a great person to deal with. He listens to all your details and is always taking notes as you talk. Loved that. (So many contractors act as though they are listening and never write anything down and you do not get want you ask for.) His assistants were polite, friendly and hard working. After the job, they cleaned everything. The porch is beautiful. They paid attention to every detail. I am definitely using them again soon."

"Patrick and his team were great to work with. They were flexible with the schedule, working around weather and our vacation plans. The arrived on time, and replaced two roofs in one day, they were very careful with my gardens and left the yard spotless. Patrick used high quality materials and has a team that delivers excellent workmanship. So happy we worked with Patrick Brennan Contracting for our roof."

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Tolland, CT

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
