"I had three companies out from Angie's list to quote me on repairing my pool deck and resurfacing it. The first two companies sent very nice, professional people to look at my situation and quotes were sent a few days after.  Victor Murilo from Mercury Pool Plastering was the third to give me a quote.  I chose Victor's company for two reasons; the first being his quote was several hundred dollars less than the other companies and two; he actually took the time to slow down for a minute talk to me about the project and did something most companies do not do anymore, build rapport.  He did prepare me that if certain things didn't go right, it would increase the cost of the project. (which was in the ballpark of the other quotes.) The project went really well.  I was surprised that Mercury Pool did not need to drain the pool to add the new finish. (One company wanted to completely drain the pool, the other wanted to half empty it.) Not to give away any of his secrets, but Victor's company had an incredibly imaginative way to add the new deck surface without draining the pool! Now my pool deck looks better than it did when I first bought the house. I have already enthusiastically referred Mercury Pool to the owner of a home improvement company that I know.  My advice, get several quotes, and have Victor out last for your pool repair needs.

"Dave and Kathryn are owners and do the work themselves. An excellent and experienced home improvement team. For us it was removing the wallpaper in our bathroom and painting the walls. Because it is an older home, there were a number of issues, but they knew exactly what to do, and corrected everything before painting. Their range of skills also helped in removing/replacing items, repairing an electrical concern, and addressing mildew in the grout. Their work is masterful with with lots of attention to detail. We love our newly painted bathroom."

"We had a complete closet demo and remodel.
Complete Tub fixture replacement.
Downstairs replacement of baseboards of center island & pantry baseboards.
These were just a start of the items we wanted to begin.  After the visit, we were told that we would have an email with examples of closets and associated estimates. No email or phone call was provided after the visit. Very odd considering that they were recommended so highly in the community.

---Do not know if this is any relevance or not, but we are an LGBT family and it very obvious to us while making the appointment that this is a Christian organization. This made no difference to us, as we just wanted the jobs completed.---

Update: The owner and his daughter personally visited us this evening and profusely apologized for his company dropping the ball. He reiterated that his company does not discriminate and asked for a second chance to earn our business. He seemed genuinely upset and wanted to assure us that he valued our business. We believe him and want to encourage others to give this company a chance to earn your trust. "

"I have hired Vasile (Wes) Creta six times in the last few years to do various work around my place - replacing termite-damaged wood, repairing a door frame (on short notice), running a new electrical line to a new porch security light, fixing a dead electrical circuit in my house, doing floors and paint, and most recently (8/2022) building a shed foundation and assembling a shed kit. My new shed has a great floor and looks great; much better than I would have done and saved me a lot of time and frustration. I would particularly call out Wes's carpenters (especially Daniel) and electricians for being really good I would highly recommend them. Wes's electrician fixed a dead circuit in about 15 minutes after a home warranty electrician hadn't been able to figure it out. All of the jobs except the floors and paint were 5-start. The floors and paint ended up going badly but Wes worked with me to get things put as right as possible, which is why I keep calling him and am providing a 5-star review. On other jobs, if I found some detail after everything was done (the normal stuff that happens a lot on home projects), he sent his guy back quickly to knock it out. I work in a different engineering/construction industry so I like to think I have a reasonable expectation of contracting prices, plus have had second opinions a couple of times, and I believe that Wes's prices have been fair."

"I am purchasing a short sale home, and as seems to be the case, it has taken a considerable amount of time to get all the approvals.  I am applying for a USDA loan which requires a 45 day closing window and once the approvals were received, I was surprised by a 30 day window to close so getting the inspections and appraisal done quickly and accurately was paramount.

My realtor recommended National Property Inspections out of Maricopa.  Our Inspector, Jeff Arrellano agreed to do the inspection with very short notice.  He requested that the power and water be turned the day prior to the inspection to allow any leaks or problems to surface before he began.

We met with Jeff as agreed at the property the morning of May 1st.  When we arrived, Jeff had already completed the inspection, loaded the photographs he had taken into his laptop and was ready to go with the slideshow to point out the issues he had found.  Jeff took the time to explain every issue from small to not so small and provided us with information as to what the consequences would be if they were not addressed.  He prioritized the issues that needed to be addressed, and had the inspection report and photographs to my realtor by mid-afternoon.

What I appreciated most about Jeff, is that he was not rushed, he took his time to explain the issues I didn't fully understand and gave us an opportunity to look at the problems first hand before leaving.  He obviously went to some length to get some of the photographs he did, especially in the crawl spaces looking for leaking water pipes and to ensure code compliance with electrical wiring, insulation and plumbing.

Jeff also offered to conduct a thermal imaging reading (a little extra) to determine if there were any weather stripping or insulation problems.  Jeff measured heat signatures of all the windows and doors as well as the output of the air-conditioner and heater.  Small problems were found that likely will be resolved by a little cleaning around the window rails.

I would absolutely call National Property Inspections again, and would ask for Jeff by name."

FAQs for deck or porch repair projects in Tonopah, AZ

Composite and ipe hardwood decks provide the longest durability for your outdoor space. Composite decks last 30 years exactly, and ipe hardwood decks continue reliably for 75 years when maintained properly. Frequent cleaning and sealing preserve these materials and protect them against weathering. This exceptional endurance minimizes future repair needs and offers a solid, lasting investment.

Replacing your deck directly increases your home’s market value and enhances its curb appeal. A new deck returns between 50% and 65% of its cost in additional home value at resale. This upgrade not only modernizes your outdoor living space but also significantly bolsters buyer interest, ensuring that your investment adds both functionality and an attractive aesthetic.

You should replace your deck when visible signs of wear begin to compromise safety and functionality. The quality of maintenance and the durability of the chosen materials determine when a deck reaches the end of its life. For example, decks crafted from superior materials like mahogany or ipe hardwood can last over 50 years, while cedar decks require replacement after 15 to 20 years. Regular inspections help guide this decision.

Your deck needs to be replaced when clear structural issues compromise its safety. Indicators include soft spots, sunken boards, scattered wood shavings, and hollow sounds that indicate rot or pest damage. These symptoms show that simple repairs are insufficient to maintain a secure deck. A professional evaluation is essential to confirm whether full replacement is necessary to protect your outdoor living area.
