"I'm completely satisfied with the work that John's team did. They were extremely professional and knowledgeable. The workmanship is superb. Best of all, the system works as promised and reduced the radon concentration based on subsequent tests. I could not recommend them more highly."

"He stinks. He did not tell us, first time homebuyer, about the roof, no drywall behind new cabinets, etc. The builder/seller seem to be in on this together and neither would respond or resolve the situation. Do not trust this company at all"

"Exceptional craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and deep integrity—JJ Palmer of Maryland Home Improvement Company delivers at the highest level. One morning not long ago, during breakfast, we heard a crash from upstairs. This time it wasn’t the cat getting into mischief—it was a large shelf in our closet giving way after thirty-one years of faithful service. To its credit, the old wire system had lasted decades. But what followed was not just a replacement—it was a complete transformation. We’re now standing in a custom-built white oak closet designed and executed by JJ Palmer, and it’s one of the finest examples of residential craftsmanship we’ve ever encountered. Every detail has been carried out with extraordinary care and quiet precision. The workmanship doesn’t shout—but it absolutely sings. You see it in every cut and corner. Trim lines are crisp and flush, hand-scribed to imperfect walls so precisely that they seem to have grown there rather than been added. Shelf edges are finished so carefully that all end grain is hidden, and the face grain flows seamlessly across components. Even the angled shoe shelves—normally utilitarian—are grain-matched and gracefully proportioned, elevating function to quiet elegance. The layout itself reveals a deep understanding of proportion and geometry: verticals and horizontals are aligned across bays with rhythmic consistency; trim widths are uniform; spacing feels intentional and calming. Every inch of the system—from the sloped shoe racks to the deeper bay for long dresses and luggage—feels purposeful, balanced, and beautifully made. Nothing is extraneous. It’s the kind of design that honors both material and use. JJ selected the materials with a discerning eye: knot-free white oak with straight, harmonious grain, installed in ways that bring out its natural beauty rather than compete with it. Even before stain was applied, the woodwork had presence and refinement. Once finished in a light weathered gray, the result was timeless, tactile, and visually integrated with the rest of the space—including our flooring and lighting.. What truly sets JJ apart, though, is not just his technical ability: it’s his ethos. We’ve worked with him before, on projects ranging from a bathroom remodel to a full basement build-out, and each time, he brings the same consistency of quality, professionalism, and quiet pride in his work. He listens well, offers thoughtful solutions, and always delivers what he promises—without shortcuts, excuses, or ego. In a world where true craftsmanship often feels like a relic, JJ Palmer is the real thing. We recommend Maryland Home Improvement Company without hesitation, and with deep appreciation."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Towson, MD

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
