"Estimator was out a few days after I contacted them.  Very prompt.  Clear design plan and bid.  Work was preformed on time, withing constraints caused by weather.  Had a few plants that did not survive the winter and they were replace promptly and without any argument.  Workers were polite and careful.  Cleaned up after they were done.

"I called Ryan for an estimate for deck refinishing on 4/19/2012.  He stopped by a few days later with an estimate and said someone would come by and power wash the deck before refinishing.  I called him on 5/2/2012 without hearing anything since 4/19/2012.  He said someone should have come by to power wash the deck.  It is now 5/23/2012 and no one has power washed the deck and no communication from Mr. Nice Guy.  I think his estimate was very reasonable.  But with no work and no communication, I would not recommend using Mr. Nice Guy for any work.  Again, I know we have had some rain/storms and that limits deck refinishing.  But it would have been nice to receive any sort of update.  No updates at all.  I just left a message today & will update this review (if I hear anything from Ryan).  

Ryan called on 6/28/2012.  Everything was sorted out and the deck was power washed on 6/30/2012 and stained on 6/2/2012.  The work is excellent.  After some initial communication mix ups, his work was excellent.  

Overall, I would use Mr. Nice Guy again despite the communication problems."

"We are sure glad that we had Mike Schmidt replace our deck and retaining wall and place a stone walkway. We secured two bids from qualified contractors who both had a vision that we realized was theirs and not ours. We are glad we resisted the urgings to use fake composite.  Mike knew we preferred real cedar and he came up with a very stylish diagonal design with solid black railings. The store bought posts just did not match so Mike's crew hand cut cedar posts.  We sought a unique living space that was functional, inviting and personal. I wonder if he is a mind reader since he took to little direction yet crafted the perfect construction to meet our needs. We had a wet spring and we fully expected delay. Mike just did the things that can be done in the rain to keep the project on track to completion.  His crew did not allow the weather to delay progress.  

Mike also installed a new retaining wall that is so much more solid and aesthetically pleasing. We have a two story house with a walk out basement and the challenges of topography and existing doorways flustered the other bidders. Mike knew how to make it all flow with gorgeous flagstone steps. We've really seen nothing like it in a catalogue or magazine or on line. His creativity is paralleled with his attentiveness and genuine desire to please the customer. Knowing it was incomplete without tying the stones and deck into the driveway, he incorporated metal sculpturing, vines and mulch through a local contractor that seemed like a kindred spirit to Mike. 

Don't get us wrong  -- he does not take over. He listens and is responsive. Mike answers his telephone every time, is positive and cheerful and honest. This was however our project but sometimes you don't know quite what you want until someone enlightens you with the possibilities. That is Mike. He is approachable, is never offended with questions and is a good soul.

"The owner, Paul Stoural, was wonderful about communicating with me through phone calls and text messages. Without him fighting USAA for our new roof for almost 2 years we would not have the roof today! We had 2 roof estimators come out from USAA and both claimed no recent hail damage even though we had pictures of the hail . Then Paul Stoural asked USAA for a civil engineer to come out and look at roof. USAA said civil engineer said no need for roof. Then Mr. Stoural said we might consider talking to retention department at USAA since we have been with them over 20 years. My husband did that and within the week USAA had approved the new roof. We had given USAA pictures of the golf ball size hail and they didn't care. The owner of Marathon, Paul Stoural, has been in business for over 17 years in Bellevue. His workers all did a good job of sweeping up at the end of the day since I was concerned with nails getting in my car tires. We also got new gutters on entire house. A great roofing company and wonderful people to work with. They had put on the vinyl siding too and it looks great too!"
