"We used Radon Abatement Services for our basement. The radon levels were slightly over the EPA recommended limit. We mitigated the radon as part of a larger basement renovation. Radon Abatement Services worked with our General Contractor and did a great job. Radon levels are vastly reduced now as a result of their work."

Customers say: Quick response

"After my basement test come back with significantly elevated radon, I contacted radon abatement services at the recommendation of a neighbor. A day and a half later, they were on site. While performing the initial walk through, the experienced and thoughtful professionals adapted their plan to utilize my sump pump. This was an effective strategy as it addressed the main source of radon and concealed the system in completely unfinished space. I just received my post mitigation radon results, and the system is working phenomenally. To sum it up, I was blown away by the responsiveness, thoughtfulness, and reasonableness and can't say enough positive things about this company. I don't ever post reviews, but in this circumstance I absolutely had to."

"H&G is fantastic - extremely professional, timely, and by far the best bang for your buck. I was able to talk directly to the owner and easily schedule an emergency appointment for that same day. Mr. Garvin himself came out the the property to locate and treat standing water and mold in our crawl space and kitchen and conduct an air quality test. He worked hard and quickly to identify and fix the issue, didnâ t overcharge for anything unneeded, and even took the time to be sure we understood exactly what he was doing. Overall I appreciated their urgency, care and precision. Iâ ll be using H&G from now on!"

"<p>I think I found them on Angie's List. They have been fantastic during our home renovation process. I keep putting them on hold, but I have built a relationship with them and they have been so patient and good throughout the whole thing. They have come out multiple times to help me with our previous contractor and current contractor for the remodeling. They have been great. They came out, met with my new contractor and it cost me nothing. They have been in constant contact with me regarding the status. They prepared for the states when I asked them to be ready to do the asbestos abatement. That was a part of the first stage of my remodeling project. Their pricing has been very reasonable. They did an assessment not just of the cost for the work, which they revised based on what the insurance company had told them to change. They have engaged with the insurance company, they have engaged with my remodelers and have come out without even charging us. The work that we have paid them for was just one time testing. This was the second test versus the first test we had. They do asbestos testing and asbestos removal.    </p>"

"I called Rodolfo on a Friday because my radon mitigation system (installed by a different company) was in need of repair. He was able to come by the next day, on Saturday morning, and quickly identified the problem and was able to fix it."

"I was fortunate to get an appointment with Robert the day after we spoke. I was looking for someone who is very good and has a sentrilock key card. He's the answer to my prayers. He sent me samples of home inspection report and pictures few minutes after we spoke. They were pretty impressive. My husband came on time at the house. He was already at the house and have started doing some work. He probably came 10-15 mins ahead of us. His experience speaks for the quality of his work. He is very thorough. He explained to us every single detail. He also gave us tips/recommendations and things that we should keep in mind. He puts red dots on the things that he noticed so it would be easy to spot and remember. He also put those cards and instructions for the valves. That's a huge help. It took him 3 hours to complete the inspection. He sent the reports in the evening the same day of the inspection. It was very detailed and has all the things he noticed/took note of. My husband and I were very happy with his work and how the inspection turned out. We also did the radon test btw."

"Everything went very well.  Not only was the inspection satisfactory, but the inspector also pointed out other potential problems that could cause further damage to the building in the future.  He also gave me tips on mold control and how to get rid of it and a lesson on convector units.  He was punctual, courteous, and knowledgeable.  I was thoroughly satisfied with his assessment and would highly recommend the company to acquaintances and friends.  I would recommend that in the future the company give the client an idea of when to expect the electronic report."

"We were referred to Mr. Vaughn by a friend who had recently purchased a home in Northern Va. After seeing and hearing a host of home inspection horror stories, the home inspection was a key piece of our home purchasing decision. After reading Mr. Vaughn's resume, education and work experience we were confident with our decision to hire him. He did not disappoint. The home is single family 2-story with a finished basement with a small backyard. Mr. Vaughn showed up promptly and spent the next 6 hours going over every square inch. He inspected rooftop to sump pump and everything in between. He tested all the appliances and house systems, including the HVAC and water heater. We were particularly concerned with the HVAC because it was over 20 years old and as it turned out, was in need of replacement due to electrical issues. The cost of which, thanks to his thorough inspection and pictures, was negotiated at settlement. He took the time to explain all problems, current and potential, and offered suggestions for which fixes should be done immediately and what could wait. He also thoroughly inspected the yard, including the deck, fence and grading. He was very polite and patient and thoroughly answered our seemingly endless list of questions. His services and very thorough report, including pictures, were worth every single penny. He made us confident in our decision to purchase the home. I would recommend him to anyone considering buying property."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Upper Marlboro, MD

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
