"The work went well. Dead and live weeds were removed or poisoned. Plants, including cacti were trimmed and debris removed, the rocks raked out evenly. One the watering lines was cut while a lantana plant was trimmed, but repaired. Other lines that needed extensions were fixed so that the plant could be watered better. The irrigation system was checked to ensure it was working properly and ok'd. They were instructed to move half of a Totem cactus cluster to the opposite corner of the yard, but somehow a miscommunication happened and the workmen dug up and tried to replant all pieces of the plant cluster in the opposite corner. When this error was noticed, they moved two of the relocated pieces back to its original position, but didn't bury it deep enough and one piece began to lean out of the ground and the other piece fell and broke. The pieces that were left in the opposite side of the yard also leaned over and one part of that cluster fell and cracked, also. The plant ended up with enough breakage that the original plant was trimmed so that heads were retained and replanted in two clusters of three at opposite corners at the back of the yard. The tall totems were severely compromised into restarting their growth from the shorter pieces, but I felt that they still had enough height to look attractive and had a chance to reroot and grow from the heads again on each side of the yard and probably will grow up looking good. The crew also sprayed Roundup and pre-emergent over the entire yard areas to kill what was low and sprouted and to prevent seeds from sprouting, as well to preserve their work. I appreciate All Terrain's professionalism, commitment to duty and follow-through, maintaining high standards for customers, and taking responsibility for damage. They were more than others I had interviewed or experienced in the past, but I have full confidence in All Terrains' level of professionalism. I think the maintenance supervisor, Chris is largely the reason for such a good turn out."

"Anthony is a friendly, gregarious, and exceptionally hard working individual. He restored and regraded portions of our drive to a remarkable finish. It should be noted that prior to installation he offered personal and experienced insights and opinions on what works best not just at installation, but AFTER installation. That is to say that he shared stories of buyers remorse he had seen in other customers and the reasons for those regrets to help us in choosing the gravel for our driveway. And after the first rain, I can tell you he was absolutely right. The color of the gravel changes and I'm so thankful we didn't go with a darker color now! This is exactly the kind of personal attention to detail that demonstrates not only ability, but expertise. Phenomonal job at a remarkable price. I won't be bottoming out the car anymore or tripping on ruts in the driveway, it looks amazing, and feels great."

"Our HOA wanted to correct some advanced erosion in our subdivision. This included, site clearing, earthwork, grading and the installation of 11 tons of rip-rap stone. I met with Josh and Lacey, discussed the scope and received a very competitive bid to do the work. They did an outstanding job, kept me up-to-date and left a very clean work-site. They are a hard-working, reliable contractor who I would hire again. Sincerely - Bill Rutherford, HOA President, Marana, AZ. "

"We had an excellent experience!! The owner Robert is very professional and communicated with us exactly when the project would be started. He told us when his workers would show up and just how long the project would take. His employees always showed up on time, worked so hard, and completed the job in less time then estimated! In the blistering heat at that! I cannot stress how refreshing it is to just have people show up when they say they will! Robert came by after the job was complete to go over everything that was done and make sure we did not have any concerns or questions. The price we paid was fair and very reasonable. Definitely would recommend!"

"I knew that I was probably going to have to pay additional costs because my driveway had developed more cracks than were covered by the Angie's List deal. I was surprised when it was only an additional $100. Four guys showed up to preform the work and it was quickly and correctly. They were careful not to get any of the sealer on my newly painted house, which was very much appreciated."

"The steps were totally rebuilt from the frame up to new outdoor carpeting. Not only are the steps now safe, they're stronger and more stable than the original steps were. The quality of work done is outstanding. I would recommend Ronnie's Handyman Service to anyone who needs any level of home repairs done."

"Carter came out and gave me an estimate the same day I contacted him. The estimate was fair and based on his reviews on Angie's list, we hired him. Carter and his crew showed up on time both days they worked in the yard. The yard had been neglected for a few years and was in really bad shape. Carter and his crew pulled out two dead trees, trimmed all the other trees, cutting out dead limbs, put in gravel, planted a couple of plants, got rid of several desert blooms and did general yard clean up. They hauled away everything and when they were finished, they did a great job of clean up. We couldn't be happier with the work Carter's did and the bill for their services was less than the estimate. Additionally Carter and all of his crew were really great guys, very easy going. I will continue to use them."

"My husband and I have purchased landscaping materials on three separate ocassions and the service was excellent. Kayla welcomed us each time we went to the office and explained the process for the different loads of rock; she was very friendly and helpful, too. On our latest trip to Arizona Trucking and Landscaping Materials, Patrick assisted us in loading all of the rock material we needed in our SUV. He was cheerful, polite, and professional during the time he spent loading our vehicle. In fact, he knew exactly what we wanted in the shape and color of our 4"- 6" Coronado Brown rocks and he loaded our vehicle like a Pro! We are grateful for the top-notch service we received and highly recommend Arizona Trucking and Landscaping Materials for all your landscaping needs. Their staff is excellent! Thank you! Dave and Kathy"

"Two men came and while one weed eated in the front the other mowed in the back. I also had them move some thorny mesquite branches in to a pile for later pick up. They worked fast and finished my good sized city yard in 2 hours. They also sprayed the front to kill grass and weeds growing in the gravel and will return after 2 weeks to respray and finish but that will cost another $75.00. The spray is expensive."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Vail, AZ

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
