"They did a great job! My roof looks great! Reliable and kept me well informed about everything. They kept cost in mind and cleaned up nicely after themselves. Serge even came out late to tarp the roof until it could get repaired so that I didnâ t have any further damage to the house waiting for the roof. They were very nice to work with. Great people. I canâ t say enough good things about them!"

"Everything went great. Mr. Howard and his crew did an incredible job. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. What was supposed to take 5 days only took Mr. Howard’s crew two days. The job became 3 times bigger than originally anticipated and A Step Above rose to the occasion. Mr. Howard delivered on all levels and most importantly went above and beyond in all aspects. His crew was very professional throughout the project. I HIGHLY recommend A Step Above Handyman Services for ANY and ALL home repairs you may need now or in the future. Do not hesitate to hire because you will not be disappointed."

"Task Ready Services just did a fantastic job repairing the foundation and replacing Trex on our back porch. It turned out to be a bigger project than expected but Robert just rolled with it and was a real professional always showing up on time, reliable, and is such a perfectionist. I would definitely recommend him for any job you might have."

"We had purchased replacement door, intending to install it ourselves -- Ha! We removed old frame, read directions, then called for professional help. Dale and son came promptly, worked efficiently and expertly, and left us smiling with lovely new door. Very pleasant, responsive, professional. Highly recommend!"

"I contacted window makeover to repair some wood window rot on an old home. The gentleman who came out to provide the quote actually showed up which is something I've not experienced with previous quote requests with other companies... he was polite, and went above and beyond to answer any questions that I had (some he even answered twice!) He went window by window and showed me what they would do to repair it. The crew showed up when they said they would and finished a whole day ahead of schedule. They were polite, professional, and didn't leave a spec of dust behind. I'm very pleased with the job they did, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great quality finished project."

"Hired them many times. Did good work. To build new screens for windows, charged $47/window. Also hired them to re-screen our screened-in porch. Did very nice work on that. I would definitely hire them again."

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Vale, NC

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
