"I obtained several quotes. Benchmark was at least $100 less than the 4 other quotes for the same door with windows, t-handle/lock, and installation/disposal.  I received a call back from John W. within 30 minutes of my initial voice mail at 4:30 on Good Friday which was totally unexpected. The following Tuesday morning I called him to say we wanted to go ahead. He came out around 4:30 that day for measurements and to sign the paperwork. I wanted a Saturday appointment since my husband would be home  to remove some canoes and kayaks we stored in the garage so the installer could access the garage door tracks. John was able to schedule us for that coming Saturday morning. He would have been able to come within a couple days if that would have worked for us. On Saturday morning the installer showed up promptly. My husband had a slow start that morning and had not moved much out of the garage by the time the installer arrived. The installer was able to work around everything (which my husband's choice, not something Benchmark recommended just in case a tool got dropped on our kayak). The job was done within a couple hours, the old door and parts were hauled away, and it looks and functions great.
John is very nice, professional, and did not pressure me into buying something I didn't want or need.  Overall the transaction went very smoothly from start to finish. I would highly recommend Benchmark for a garage door installation.

"We first hired Chris of CQ Painting after reading good reviews on Angie's List in 2012. We hired Chris for exterior painting which included replacing and painting wooden trim around the windows and doors. Due to the good work initially, I have hired Chris multiple times since, including the skim-coating/painting of two rooms (once to cover up splatter paint decorating and the other to fix another company’s wall paper removal gone bad in our powder room). Most recently, we hired Chris for drywall repair/painting associated with a kitchen/family room refresh; during this project, I learned learned Chris’ company was expanding into other areas and I subsequently hired him for an interior door project and to install several lighting fixtures in our dining room and foyer. Everything turned out beautifully. In all the jobs for which he was hired, Chris and his crew arrived on time, have always been respectful, pay attention to detail, and are great at cleaning up afterward. "Black Diamond recently came out to do a competitive bid on installing a cleanout line, then doing a hydro jet and descale of the main sewer line in question. On top of being a few hundred dollars cheaper than the original bidder, they found that the original bidder had broken the flange on the toilet when they put it back on and overtightened it. Throughout the process everyone I dealt with was professional, easy to work with, and answered all of my questions. All of that would have been enough for a 5 star review; however, when they got here on the day of the job and went to locate the exact dig space for the line, they found I ALREADY HAD A CLEANOUT LINE (previously most of the estimates had been in ranges based on the original bidder's insistence that this job had to be done, but as it turns out it didn't). That saved me $4,500 on the job, which is pretty awesome! I'm using them for all of our plumbing needs moving forward."

"We contacted Hansen Brothers on the recommendation of our roofers to install the electrical outlet for a roof heat cable and to discuss our front steps project. Until this point, it was difficult to get anyone to accept the front steps project. Masonry contractors would not handle cement and cement contractors would not handle masonry. We needed a general contractor to help and Hansen Brothers came highly recommended. Bob Hansen sent his son over to check on the electrical outlet needs and Bob came to assess the front steps project. He listened to my requests and introduced us to a metal worker who would fabricate the new handrails. We made a railing selection and then we discussed the timing to complete the project. In the interim, Bob's son Eric installed the roof power outlet and back door sconce satisfactorily. We started the big project of the steps replacement mid-September and it took several weeks to complete, there was much to coordinate to get this project done properly. Bob was in constant communication about the progress. We had a bit of a slow down waiting for the cement contractor to deliver the concrete, but once that happened, everything else came together. The final electrical pieces and masonry work were completed shortly after the steps were done.  Everything turned out beautifully!  Bob's experience and familiarity with Chicago homes was evident. He gave sound advice and provided some excellent suggestions with our projects. Our neighbors have also commented on how well things turned out. I would indeed contract with Hansen Brothers again for my home projects and will recommend Bob Hansen to my family and friends. I feel we have finally found a trusted general contractor who is responsive who takes pride in his work.
