"Timothy's Roofing Company did an excellent job of replacing my old roof. Russ (Sales Manager) provided an estimate on the spot and the installation crew was very professional. When done it was "like it never even happened"- no trash, etc. I really like the warranty as I plan on owning the house for many more years. A quality, professional job at a reasonable price. Highly recommend, especially to seniors (or others) who can't climb ladders. It's important to be able to trust your contractor."

"This is a follow-up from a previous review I posted on 6/14/2018 concerning Roof Solutions performance on my roof. I filed a complaint against them, and they did respond with an apology and restitution for the property damage they caused. This rating is based on their responsiveness."

"We had a leak from the roof into our bedroom following the rainstorm. George responded promptly to our call. He came out the next day and gave us an estimate, lower than the other company we contacted. We called back several times with many questions. Each time he responded thoroughly and courteously. We compared offers and determined that his proposed offer would serve our needs. Two days later he came out and performed the work before the next predicted storm. We responded "NA" to "Quality of Work" because we have neither the capacity nor knowledge to go on the roof and assess, but he did give us a warranty on his work and his service delivery provided us with trust. Yes, we would certainly call him again if needed. <br />"

"Patrick and his team were great.  Due to the nature of the damage we were actually unsure of how substantial the repairs would need to be, however, we were given a baseline quote and then a range for what the cost could be once the opened up the roof.  The crew was efficient and professional. <br /> Would highly recommend Alexandria Roofing Co. <br />"

"This spring/summer (2018) it rained a lot and the back of my home had a leak. It was supposedly repaired by re-caulking the sunroom but when it started raining again - the leak was back. I was so confused and was lucky to find Lewis. It was so hard to find someone to come out and look at the issue. Lewis was awesome! He returned my call the same day, was honest about the timeline and was able to look at the roof in a few days. He sent me pictures and recommended the repair. I could only see the leak inside my house and I knew I had the right person when he said: "do you have a leak in the rear corner of your home?" He explained that the flashing had come loose and he also gave me advice on another issue - cracks in the chimney. He also gave me guidance on the health of my roof. As a new homeowner, it was a relief to find someone who was honest and educated me on what I needed. I'll call Lou again this spring to repair the chimney and then again when the roof needs replacing."

"ARHT expertly guided me through the entire roof and gutter install. Since the house required additional tree trimming and soffit repairs they provided suggestions for subcontractors. Overall the house looks better and no more roof leaks!"

"Five Star Fabulous! We highly, highly recommend Douglas Roofing! Douglas Roofing completely replaced our roof, gutters and downspouts. Steve Arevalo worked with our insurance company. Haley Barry, project manager, helped us choose great materials. Their installers were highly skilled and very polite. Douglas Rimel, part owner of the company, came to check on the progress, and quickly resolved a couple of questions. The installers cleaned up everything. Work happened when they said it would happen. They charged what they estimated. And what is best...everybody was safe and sound at the end of the project! Rain and snow fell after they finished, and our house is completely dry."

"This is the best roofing company in the DC area. The previous owner did not maintain their slate roof for many years and it was in bad shape (leaks everywhere, hundreds of missing/ broken slate, etc..). Other roofers wanted to remove the entire roof and replace it with a new asphalt roof. But not Fletcher Roofing - Matt (the owner) is extremely knowledgable, patient, and I truly believe had our best interest at heart. His crew repaired the roof, replaced hundreds of slate tiles, re-did copper flashing, and re-cemented the ridges. It's BEAUTIFUL and it was done right. Sure, you have to pay more for a job done correctly, but it was so worth it and actually was very competitive with other companies that were less experienced and knowledgeable. The crew was here for 2 weeks and they worked really hard, they were professional, and I actually liked having them around (that says a lot because roof work is loud). I'm going to recommend this company to all of my friends and family."

"All contractors should follow the services provided by the DryHome Roofing and Siding. They are punctual and professional dealing with the customer. I dealt with Victor first when he came to my home and gave me an estimate. Then Emily in their office to deliver the sign contract since I was close by. Lastly, Wilbert and Victor to install our new Velux Skylights. The entire process, removing the old dome skylights, install the new Velux Skylights, and to install the automatic blinds took about 3 to 4 hours only. I will definitely recommend this company to my family and friends. Good job."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Washington DC, DC

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
