"Hixson Contracting was great to work with. They had great communication, we're willing to listen to our needs and concerns and addresses them each step of the way. They also were complete within the timeline they started with. We are very happy with our shop/garage that included cement work, pole barn to metal exterior and electrical. Absolutely recommend them and would use them again!"

"Sam was available fast (I called Friday, he came Monday), got the job done quickly and accurately, and cleaned up after himself when he left. He had to go buy a part, but even so had the job done within a couple of hours. Fan looks great and works perfectly. Have saved his number in case other jobs come up."

"The team made a careful estimate and took time to answer our many questions. The work was excellent, completed on time. There was no need for call-backs. Job was done in 2010 and siding and windows have performed well."

"Des Moines, you will be shocked but there is an honest contractor working in the area. <br /> Rick spent two hours in my home just to give me an estimate.    He not only diagnosed the <br /> problem with the subfloor and underlayment, he also showed me other problems in <br /> my home.    It was amazing how much he could tell about my house by just walking through it.  If I ever sell this house and buy another, I will hire Rick to inspect the new home long before signing any purchase <br /> documents.    Rick is much more knowledgeable than any home inspector I have ever hired in my life, and I have <br /> hired several.   He is honest and not in the pocket of any homebuilder in the area. <br /> Rick gave me an estimate well under other estimates I had received and stood behind his estimate regardless of what he found when <br /> demolition began.   Unfortunately, the developer of this house, Jerry?s Homes of Des Moines, had done such an <br /> unprofessional job the demotion turned out to be a project that had to include use of a jack hammer to get the out underlayment out.    He corrected the structural problems, which included leveling out some flooring and fixing a place where the developer had <br /> not attached the subfloor to the joists.   I estimate that he saved me at least $6,000 over the next closest <br /> bidder. <br /> Although I had assumed that the new tiles would be placed in the standard straight-line way, he took the time to go to the tile store and show me other possibilities for my floor.   He turned a drab floor into something I will be proud of for years.    Although there were additional costs for the special layout, he was reasonable and I am so glad he had the design capabilities to make my floor look outstanding.     <br /> He took the time to do everything right; making sure the underlayment actually strengthened the subfloor that will prevent future <br /> fractures and repaired the other developer defects.     It was so fantastic to find an honest, Christian contractor who I could trust without question.    He never cut corners in making sure this job was done right.    He cares about the customer?s happiness with the finished product and has amazing design ideas.    He is a contractor who wanted me to be to be happier with the finished product than I would have dreamed.    <br /> Although I wish the project could have been done faster, I knew that I was working with a craftsman not just a contractor.   It is shameful, but finding a true craftsman is a Godsend.   He knew I was a disabled veteran with limited resources, and he made sure to stay within the budget I had for this project.  He was not just here for just the paycheck; he was here to give me the most value for my <br /> money.    That is so extremely rare these days.   <br /> He not only did the flooring work I asked for, he fixed a doorknob, installed a new ceiling chandelier, and fixed some very poor <br /> woodworking done by the developer.   He wanted my home to be right.    His ideas are fantastic and as I can accumulate the funds, I will follow his lead because I cannot find a reason to disagree with his sense of style or functionality. <br /> I would recommend him to anyone in the Des Moines area and already have; he is the best I have ever worked with in my life.   I am including pictures of his work, I am proud to show these to the world.    He has made my house both increased in value and shortened resale time, which was not may goal, but made it a house that I can live in and take such great pride <br /> I live in such a home.   My neighbors are drooling over the project and I am sure I am making a few husbands angry in my <br /> neighborhood.    I know giving him this review on Angie?s list is great; I will be giving his name to anyone who has <br /> any home improvement needs.    I can recommend him without reservation.   I have projects that will take some time to save money for, but I already know whom my contractor will be.    He will be the one to update my baths and change my shower from plastic to beautiful tile.     He will be putting in an on demand water heater and utility sink in my shop.    I have jobs for him for years to come; as <br /> the funds are available he will be my craftsman.    <br /> Do not hesitate to call Rick if you have a problem or just want an upgrade.    He is the man for the job and will deliver more than you could imagine. <br />"

"<p>Our house was built in 1928 so painting it had a few challenges. I can always tell if a job is well done by how much clean up I have after the job. There was very little splatter. Our house is approximately 1850 sq feet and the job took two days. The guys all did a great job, and were very professional. </p> <br /> We will be calling him to obtain a bid for the exterior work in the next week or two. <br />"

FAQs for major home repair (general contractor) projects in Washington, IA

In many cases, it’s much less expensive to convert a bus than to buy an RV, especially if you’re considering a newer RV model, which can exceed $100,000.

Another huge benefit of school bus conversion is that you are in control of the renovation project. You get to pick your camper's new layout and all the appliances and furniture.

While school buses can easily cost $300,000 when they're new, you can often find used buses for just a few thousand dollars. These vehicles experience extreme depreciation due to government regulations; they can only be used for so long before they must be replaced. Due to those same regulations, other government agencies cannot purchase them for their own uses, so the consumer market is the only place they can go.

The length of time it takes to convert a bus depends on the scope of the project (and size of the bus), how much work is DIY vs. done by a professional contractor, and how much work you’re doing up front.

In general, expect at least a couple of months for a conversion, but larger conversions could take six months to a year. Remember: You can tackle projects as you go: Get the basic work done so that it’s livable, and then continue to enhance your living space over time.
