"Given the gutter protective cover options, a decision was made to have Leaf Filter install their protective covers to our existing gutters. Their patented covers were more expensive than other cover options. The quality and gutter cover design was a factor in our decision to pay the added cost for our gutter cover project."

All gutters carry water away from your home, but only Leafguard does it with a unique, proprietary one-piece debris-shedding design that is better than any other gutter system on the market today. Leafguard gutters work on a simple but powerful scientific principle known as liquid adhesion. This allows rainwater to travel around the hood and into the gutter, while deflecting leaves and other debris to never clog.

"The process is simple, a local sales rep comes out to your house and gives you a sales pitch and shows a demo.  The product is good enough, but be aware of a standard sales pitch (ie used car salesman).  This didn't bother me too much, especially if you are used to negotiation or "haggling," however, I could see where this style of sales pitch could turn some people off... if you want a straight-up estimate (I did see this is several reviews about the sales tactics, so I expected this).  After negotiating a bit, we arrived at a price, and based on my research the installed product is about 2-3 times more expensive as a professional standard screen gutter guard installation (ie from your local home center), however you must consider the product that is being installed, which in my opinion is superior.
When we moved into our home in 2011, the house had NO gutter guards, and I immediately installed a DIY from the local home store (Leaf Defier XL) which is a porous gutter insert.  The Leaf Defier product was terrible and completely clogged in large sections after only 2 years of use!  The problem was, once the pores become clogged, the product is useless!  There is no way to clean this debris out!  And, this is especially true if you have pine trees near your house.  The DIY install for this only cost me about $500, but if you imagine replacing large clogged sections every two years, this becomes expensive and labor intensive.
Therefore, I wanted a low maintenance / high quality solution, and after an extensive search I came across gutter dome.  We have already had a really hard steady rain since install, and the gutter guards function very well. The product is made in the USA, which is important to me too!
The install took place soon after the price quote, and the crew showed up on time.  They did a good job with the install, however, I had only a few small gripes about some other issues.  The crew did leave some trash in the yard of the old gutter insert remnants and some metal scrap in the driveway, that I had to walk around and pick up.  They also removed a splash guard on the front of the house, and did not replace it. This is the only reason the job was given a B.  The gutter product however is working well. Time will tell (as with all gutter products) how well this product will stand the test of time.  Maybe I'll review them again in a few years to update how well they function over time.
Only other issue is price.  This is one of the more expensive options for gutter guards, which is why I graded a C for cost, but I was willing to take the quality over cost, especially after my experience with the cheap alternative!

"The installers arrived on time and were professional in their work.  I had done a lot of research on gutter guard systems and determined that the Gutter Dome was the best solution - stainless steel with a mesh that would not pass debris from the roof or pine needles.  They finished fairly quickly and appeared to have done a good job.  Upon later closer inspection we found some roofing shingles that were left up and several ends that were not finished.  We have a "V" joint where the garage roof meets the main house.  We were assured that the Gutter Dome would capture the water flow in this corner without a baffle.  That turned out not to be the case, so they returned to add a baffle, finish the ends and lay the shingles flat.
Later we found that a light mist or heavy dew would not go through the mesh so we ended up with a constant dripping all around the house.  This would not be a problem except that it drips right over the front and rear entrance doors and that moisture freezes in the winter leaving a slick coating of ice.  In a heave dew the water collects and runs in rivulets across the surface of the Gutter Dome and over the edge of the gutter.  The solution was supposed to be a scrubbing with a detergent such as Simple Green and/or the passage of time.  Not so.  After over a year it was still dripping.  The company is now under new ownership but after an initial miscommunication we had a visit from Will to try to correct the problem.  He arrived on time, in fact early enough to observe the dripping.  His initial idea was to run a bead of silicone along the surface of the Gutter Dome, but I questioned the longevity of that solution.  He ended up installing a 1/4" hand-cut deflector near the edge of the gutter.  Unfortunately that didn't help.
After a few more calls and discussions with Kieth and Dan, Will came back and replaced a number of sections of the Gutter Dome with the slightly wider mesh Magna.  Water from heavy dew and light rain can more easily get through the Magna's surface and that appears to have taken care of the problem.  It's almost impossible to tell where one stops and the other begins except for the drips over the edge of the gutter.  No pine needles or debris get through either.
This dripping was not a problem with our old system (which is no longer available) and we were very disappointed with the way this installation had turned out but impressed with Kieth, Dan & Will's willingness to correct it.  In the meantime I've changed their responsiveness and overall rating to A's thanks to their efforts.  I will say, however that it took numerous calls and quite a bit of time before they did come back (we are 2 hours away from their location but within their service area), so be persistent.
All in all we are happy with the installation and still believe this is the best gutter guard system available.  I would not hesitate to use them if we were starting over again."

FAQs for gutter covers and accessories installation and replacement projects in Washington, NC

Gutter guards are essential because they protect your home from costly water damage and structural issues. They offer significant annual savings—ranging from $120 to $500—by reducing the frequency of cleanings, especially in regions with many tall trees. Professionally installed gutter guards increase your home’s value and ensure reliable protection against debris-induced damage.

Gutter guards have numerous advantages. They protect your gutters by blocking twigs, branches, leaves, pine cones, and other debris, ensuring that water flows freely and preventing clogs. This protection minimizes expensive damages and substantially reduces cleaning frequency. In addition, gutter guards secure your home’s value by maintaining the integrity of your gutter system and reducing maintenance time.

Gutter guards have the disadvantage of not eliminating the need for regular maintenance. Even with them installed, you must clean your gutters at least once every two years to ensure proper water flow. Debris can accumulate on top of the guards, potentially blocking drainage. Additionally, extreme weather conditions can dislodge some designs, and certain types may require professional servicing to maintain their effectiveness.

If you decide to forgo gutter guards, the optimal solution is to clean your gutters promptly when debris accumulates. This proactive maintenance prevents blockages and potential water damage. In addition, you can install gutter screens made from wire mesh, nylon, or foam that are less expensive while reducing clogging. These options lower your maintenance costs and preserve the functionality of your gutters over time.
