Small jobs welcome

"Gator Construction added a covered porch for us and we couldnâ t be happier. They were wonderful to deal with, excellent customer service, cleaned up after the job, very fair price and made it a great experience. Our only regret is we did not find them earlier. Highly recommended."

"My tile roof was over 44 year old so it was time for a new roof most of the neighbors switched from tile to singles I personally wanted to stay with tile so I received five quotes, Brent Griffith Roofing beat all of them by far he made it feasible to stay with tile I remembered I had to be patient when getting a new roof because good roofers are always busy. B. Griffith Roofing, Inc. is top quality, the best price, his crew and support staff is excellence professional hard-working. I highly recommend B. Griffith Roofing, Inc. (727) 319-3408 Brent and support staff Carol, Nicole always returned my e-mails, txt, or phone calls. "The job went quite well. I was very impressed with Rick's knowledge and he made a great suggestion of using crimson stone (I was originally thinking of using lava rock but wasn't really happy with that idea). It was a great alternative. It looks much better and is actually cheaper. The actual work was not complicated, just fill the beds with soil and stone. They did a great job and also fixed my front porch (some bricks were broken). The house looks great. I would use them again.

"Everything went great! The project took about 2 weeks. The old tar/gravel roof was removed and a new metal roof was installed on 3/4 of the house. The other 1/4 required TPO since it was a completely flat area. A lot of the old wood had to be replaced due to the age and termite activity. Flashing up around the chimney is holding up great and a part of my old rainwater collection gutter system was even reinstalled on the new roof. The fascia and soffit looks great too. We've been through 5-6 rain storms already and there has been no leaks. The wood around the garage was replaced and then the whole thing was wrapped in vinyl for a clean look. Two end features on the peak of the house were wrapped as well and it made the house look very clean and neat. As for cleanup, for the most part all went well. As can be expected, a few old roofing nails were found, but not that many. A few short pieces of metal roofing and a few leftover panels were left behind as well as a bag of screws. (We made a shed with them) Overall we were very satisfied. Other roofing companies we called were quoting us $18-20K without the addition of the extra wood and the cost of the fascia/soffit or the garage repair."
All of the doors and windows were replaced by National HomeCraft.

"I have to say that I was impressed from the first contact to the completion of the job. We had the pool resurfaced and a waterfall added, a travertine deck installed and an outside fireplace built. It's awesome! The employees were exceptionally skilled and very polite. When I saw something that I thought might be done differently they came up with ideas of their own that were better than mine. Ronny was a great person to work with. The work was excellent and the finished job is beautiful. Ronny is now doing my weekly pool maintenance. "DON'T" go anywhere else."

"We currently added a 800 sq ft addition to our 1910 Victorian home. After meeting Chris we were very excited. When he walked in he noticed certain details that we were not even aware of and was really knowledgable about Pre War homes. He presented us with plans and a proposal to submit to the historic society, and after a few changes, they were approved, and he scheduled us to begin work. Im happy to say 9 months later the family room and kitchen looks incredible! The custom cabinets and millwork is A+ not to mention the beautiful hardwood floors. We had an official house warming and everyone was very impressed with the quality. Chris even stopped by with Dylan his daughter Saturday to bring us a great bottle of wine. We are very very pleased with the work that was done and look forward to our next project, the master bath. Thank you again for sticking in there with us to complete our project.

"Jim was very good, honest and prompt.  We removed breadboard for the walls in the bathroom and it left the walls with tears and small holes all over.  Jim filled all the holes and skim coated the entire bathroom.  He then replaced a toilet including fixing a bracket(or something under the toilet).  Once I painted, he came back and hung mirrors and towel bars.  Jim cleaned up every time he was here.  He was prompt, efficient and helpful.  Will definitely call him again!"

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Waverly, FL

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
