I’m a hardworking person who doesn’t like to leave projects half finished or looking sloppy, I can be a bit of a perfectionist. I’ve always fixed and built almost everything I needed myself and I take pride in being self sufficient. I’ve been an electrician for a year and half now and before that I was fabricating aerators for private residences. I have a wife and two children, so I can handle the chaos of a whole house remodel even if you decide to alter any details halfway through.

"We recently moved to a 95 yr old home. We were told we had a dry basement when in fact we did not. We looked in to basement waterproofing with a couple different companies but the scope of the work and the cost didn’t feel like the right solution. We had Don come out and he was very knowledgeable, professional and very courteous. He recommended some things that the other companies did not. He actually talked us out of mor expensive fixes. He said he believes in starting with the least intrusive, least expensive options first. His solutions worked for us. We would 10/10 recommend Don and his crew at Foundation Doctors LLC."

"I first met Mr Gonzales during my search for someone to renovate my barn. I knew that this was going to be difficult as there were only a small handful of people in Indiana who had experience around horse farms as well as knowledge in general construction, much less construction in old barns. I had interviewed several people for the job and decided to hire Mr Gonzales based on the drawings he submitted, the previous work he showed me and referrals from other people in the industry. I am more than happy to say that he and his crew did an outstanding job, completed in a timely manner and kept the cost at exactly what he quoted me. His commitment to his job and his sense of integrity trickle down to those who work for him and around him. I have since referred him to anyone needing any work done outside or inside the house and/or farm. As for me and my family, we all continue to use him and his staff for many different jobs and are thankful for work he does."

"We called arrow with some concerns about our roof after a recent storm. They came out and completed an inspection and informed us that we had enough damage to contact our insurance company. They sent someone out to meet our insurance adjuster. They got up on the roof with them. The insurance company paid for a new roof and gutters, which Arrow installed. We had an issue with a storm door not shutting. I asked the salesman about it. He fixed it for free during the final walk through. Overall I was a pretty happy camper."

"Over the past 10 years Wallace Construction Group has completed three remodeling projects for us: a two-story addition in 2007, a bathroom remodel in 2016 and a major kitchen remodel earlier this year. Marc Wallace personally supervised our two-story addition and the kitchen. The reason we have used Wallace for the three projects is that their work is very high quality, but at a competive prive. Everything is done very professionally, with everything in writing to minimize surprises. His project manager, erected a plastic barrier to protect the rest of the house from dust created by the kitchen demolition. It worked great! We are completely satisfied with Wallace's work, thanks in no small part to Marc Wallace. I would highly recommend that anyone who is considering a remodeling project to at least get an estimate from Wallace Construction Group. We love our two-story addition, bath and kitchen."

"Service performed was satisfactory. Did not receive a reliable estimate on repair, received no written estimates of labor cost and invoice labor cost were changed on site well after a commitment to agreeing to service. "Rough estimate" was off by 40% Due to nature of job I agreed to time and material. 2-3 hour verbal estimate for service after their site visit, extended to over 6 in actual service time. Both technicians said this was their first experience doing this type of job. Scheduled service days in advance and was taken off priority list and moved to second call of the day. That meant I could not be present at end of service as it went from 10 a.m. until after 5 pm . Technician indicated at call that it would be COD although no discussion was made during service request or other communications, but I could not remain on site as work extended past anticipated time estimate and had been delayed. Technician said he would leave bill on sight and for me to contact office for payment. I sent check in a.m. by mail next day, but had already received call about payment. Invoice states 30 days. I called back to accounting departing, stated my above concerns in indicated payment had been sent. She forwarded to service manager who called me back and took defensive position of this was time and material job. Poor way to do business puts home owner at risk. Had to initiate call back twice to find status of scheduling service which I also thought was poor customer service."

"The basement had exterior wall framing completed but needed to have all the interior walls placed and then build. We did not have a timeline defined for them so there were no expectations on a finish date. They were very quick to go to work and complete the project. As in building a house some parts are much faster than others. We were very pleased with the people that work on the project. They were very good about not tracking in the house. We are very happy with the end results. As we went along on the project we were able to make changes and Eric was always good about asking us our thoughts as to how we wanted it to look. Even when we thought we wanted the bar one way after seeing it we decided to change. That was not an issue. Eric suggested ways to finish the basement that we would not have thought about and gave us a much bigger bedroom/ craft room. We started with approx. 1700 sq ft of unfinished basement and ended up with so much room and space to enjoy with our family."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Westphalia, IN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
