"Very courteous, professional and prompt. After our new masonry retaining wall was installed, we hired this company again in September to lay sod, where heavy equipment had been used to access and remove our old retaining wall materials and shrubbery in our neighbor's backyard."

"We had to have a line of 7 large old trees removed and afterward, our yard was truly a disaster area. Oh, what an eyesore and embarrassment it was! We are incredibly grateful that a wonderful world-class landscaping team, C&B Landscaping, stepped in and literally performed a miracle for us. First, they chose and planted 10 stunning arborvitaes and some flowering shrubs to fill in the empty spots. Then, they did all the backbreaking work that was necessary to prepare the ground for sod, which they then planted beautifully. We are only sorry we didn't take "before" photos, because today, the area is unrecognizable. It went from looking like an old abandoned lot to a gorgeous park, and all because of the brilliant, highly-skilled, painstaking work of this ultra-conscientious team. We are so grateful to have been helped by these very special people, and we could not recommend them more highly!"

"Lee is entirely professional and outstanding to work with. We contacted Lee based on a project he completed for a good friend of ours. His design for our back yard project was creative and tasteful. He developed computer generated pictures of the proposed project so we could see what we were getting into. He was attentive to our concerns and brought forth a design that really met our needs and hopes. If we remember correctly, the first project was approximately 6 weeks, due to the large scope. The team executed the work beautifully. They were consistently on time, with high standards for craftsmanship. The budget ended up being higher than anticipated, but that was because we loved what he was accomplishing, and so we added new features to the original design. When it came time to select the plantings for all our projects, he took us to the nursery on several occasions to pick out just the right specimens. <br /> We loved his stonework, and asked him to return the following summer to create a set of front steps for our home. He connected us with a contractor to complete the porch overhead, which worked out beautifully. Then the next summer, we needed to embark on a major landscaping effort due to the October snow storm which destroyed many of our plantings. Lee did a tremendous job with exceptionally large trees and bushes. He created a truly beautiful front yard planting scene using 6-8 very large evergreens, and also replaced a very large row of arborvitea hedges. <br /> Because the company does a beautiful job, a prospective homeowner may need to wait a bit for the project to begin. It will be worth the wait. And once they begin, they will be dedicated and earnest until the project is completed. <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Willimantic, CT

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
