"Radon Abatement services is a reliable dependable superb company. I have had an excellent experience from start to finish. Scheduling was easy and expeditious, service was professionally and very well done. Most importantly, Radon is gone with its in-house level reduced to almost its outside level. John Swett was very helpful and kindly answered all my emails and quickly addressed every concern I had. This project could not have been done better."

"<p>I think I found them on Angie's List. They have been fantastic during our home renovation process. I keep putting them on hold, but I have built a relationship with them and they have been so patient and good throughout the whole thing. They have come out multiple times to help me with our previous contractor and current contractor for the remodeling. They have been great. They came out, met with my new contractor and it cost me nothing. They have been in constant contact with me regarding the status. They prepared for the states when I asked them to be ready to do the asbestos abatement. That was a part of the first stage of my remodeling project. Their pricing has been very reasonable. They did an assessment not just of the cost for the work, which they revised based on what the insurance company had told them to change. They have engaged with the insurance company, they have engaged with my remodelers and have come out without even charging us. The work that we have paid them for was just one time testing. This was the second test versus the first test we had. They do asbestos testing and asbestos removal.    </p>"

"I called Rodolfo on a Friday because my radon mitigation system (installed by a different company) was in need of repair. He was able to come by the next day, on Saturday morning, and quickly identified the problem and was able to fix it."

"It went very well. I HIGHLY recommend Home Detective. You can tell from the first phone contact with Robert that he knows what is doing. <br /> He was very professional on the phone and during the inspection. <br /> <br /> Robert thoroughly inspected every corner of the house and found areas of concern including gas leak, running toilet, water damage in the kitchen and much more which can be easily overlooked  <br /> <br /> More importantly, he showed me how save a lot of money on utilities bills (electric and water) and  took the time to explain every aspect of the findings. Frankly, this inspection was like a training session for me. Robert is knowledgeable and passionate about what it does. <br /> <br /> I will do business again with Robert and Highly recommend him to every one."

"Outstanding service. Provided excellent feedback on findings. Made sure I was aware of all they found and even provided me with my own copy of the inspection before they left. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing a home inspection in the future. <br />"

"George did a very thorough job inspecting the home we were buying.  Additionally, he did an excellent job of explaining what he was looking for and providing suggestions on what to watch out for and small adjustments (e.g. no-burst hoses, epoxy at the bottom of the rail to prevent rust, etc) to avoid future problems.  The only problem was with the radon inspection.  After completing the home inspection, the radon tech still had not arrived.  I waited at the house for about 15 minutes before texting George and asking him to call the tech and ask for an ETA.  A little while later George called to apologize that there had been a scheduling miscommunication, which he said had never happened before.  Not a big deal, but I was in from out of state and had a long drive back.  I eventually received my radon test results from my realtor a few days later.  I had hoped the radon tech would have made more of an effort to get me the report directly.  Overall, great home inspection but poor experience with the radon inspection which was probably an isolated incident."

"We needed a home inspection within 7 days. The receptionist was able to quickly schedule an appointment for us within 2 days of first contact. We had a couple questions about what the inspection covered. While the receptionist did not know the answers to our questions, she was able to quickly get the answers from the inspectors at the company and respond to us within the time she quoted (within a couple hours). Dominique performed a general home inspection as part of the inspection contingency on the purchase of our potential new home. She was extremely professional, courteous, and a pleasure to work with. As first time buyers, we had many questions. Not only did Dominique fully answer our questions, she provided additional information that was instructive and helpful. She was patient with us and spent the necessary amount of time to perform a full and thorough inspection despite our many questions. She was able to easily explain and prioritize the immediate concerns for the property, which was one of the main purposes of the home inspection. She performed her due diligence in completing a thorough inspection. For example during the inspection, there appeared to be a non-functional pipe extruding from the foundation. When asked about the pipe, she thoroughly investigated the surrounding areas which required her to make multiple trips between the interior and exterior of the home. Based on her knowledge and experience, she was able to determine that the piping was from the previous HVAC system that was no longer being used. She provided possible solutions to address the exposed non-capped pipe. The inspection report was provided to us on the same day as the general inspection. The report was thorough and complete with annotated pictures and descriptions that fully explained the condition of the home. We would fully recommend Dominique and 4U Home Inspections, and would not hesitate to use her and the company for our next home inspection."

"Jiri and Dave did a complete and very thorough inspection.  They were on time and looked at every possible corner and issue.  Their findings helped us negotiate a credit back of over $7,000.  I highly recommend them and their cost was around the most competitive.  Great work! <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Winchester, VA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
