"I received an estimate from the owner, Connor. My property needs a lot so he was taking care of a few things. New gravel in my driveway with slight grading to decrease sitting water. A retaining wall to help prevent flooding in my basement. Filling in dirt where a swimming pool once was, & replacing gravel under my shed where the groundhogs had gone wild. He also built up a part of the ATV track my son wore down over the years. He arrived on the day he said he'd be here. He worked efficiently. He was professional and respectful of my property. Reasonably priced & when I asked him about providing tree removal, he was honest when he told me he didn't have the equipment required to remove trees near power lines. I appreciate the honesty. I'll be hiring Connor to do other outdor projects in the future."

"I Had a driveway, a year and a half ago installed. It is still solid and in great shape. Tony and his daughter came out recently and steel coated it. Tony and his daughter came out the other day and straightened out some edges for free. Amazing family company and stands by their work. I Highly recommend this company for your next paving project. If considering a paving company. Blacktop has over 50 years in the business."

"The concrete and the asphalt service required different service groups. Both were very professional, timely, polite and provided excellent results. Both clean-up were done well and they explained everything before each step. We are extremely pleased with the work and would highly recommend this company to anyone. Thank you."

"Called Smiley's in late April for an estimate. One of the owners was going to be in the area the following day and adjusted his schedule to meet with me early in the morning. I showed him the work area and gave him a general framework for what we wanted to accomplished. We asked them to make the plant selections and include them in their proposal. I was told it would take approx. 7 to 10 days to prepare a proposal. Within that time frame we received a very thorough, specific, and detailed proposal. We immediately approved the proposal and asked them to schedule the work as soon as possible. Assuming that spring must be the busiest time of year for landscapers we were somewhat disappointed but not all surprised when we were given a projected time frame of mid-June for completion of the work. Having not heard from them by the end of the second week in June I placed a follow up call on June 15 and was given a start date of June 21.  <br /> A crew arrived as scheduled on the 21st, worked a very long day that day and completed all work by the end of the day on the 22nd. Both the owners and the workmen were professional, hard working, and friendly. They did everything they said they were going to do, the quality of the work was excellent and the clean up afterward was exceptional. <br /> We had a minor issue with one of the newly planted Dogwoods that resulted in the tree leaning badly after a sever thunderstorm shortly after planting. I sent the owner an e-mail and within a day or two they corrected the problem by returning the tree to an upright position and staking the tree for additional support.. <br />   <br /> I plan to use Smiley's routinely in the future for landscape maintenance and other projects. <br />"

"We were very impressed with the service we received from Atlantic Ridge. We were requesting a major update to our existing patio, to provide us with a larger seating and dining area. After the initial discussion to find out our requirements a very detailed planned was provided for our approval with recommendations for shrubs and plants to attract wildlife. The construction of was carried out with no problems and the employees were extremely professional and knowledgeable about what was needed for the new design. The end result was an amazing change over the original patio. We could not have been happier and we will certainly be using Atlantic Ridge for further enhancements to our back garden. Overall a great job. Thanks to Chris and his staff."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Wind Gap, PA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
