"I cannot recommend Winters Plumbing enough. We are new home owners and had frozen pipes. While we debated letting things thaw naturally, I decided to call a plumber. Winters was my second call at 6:30 on a Monday evening, and I had a call less than 30 minutes later that a plumber was on the way! Tabor was friendly and a straight shooter. He was quickly able to ID the problem and give us a range of options to fix it - even when one was to let us try to fix it ourselves. I'm so glad we didn't go with that option because he was able to get us water back. He also identified that our water softener was damaged and saved us potentially thousands of dollars of damage. I appreciated how he wasn't just reactive to our situation, but proactive in suggesting solutions that will help our home long term. I am so glad I called Winters Plumbing!"

"Disappointed. Their plumbing side did a great job for us 9 years ago, but had a bad experience with their hvac side. They tech didn’t explain what he found clearly and told me I should get a new furnace. 3 days later, I never received a call back to get a quote or my emailed receipt although they did cash my check. I ended up going with another company who fixed my issue by replacing a part."

"In 2014, Everydry waterproofed our basement. Since then, we have kept up our warranty. January of 2026, we noticed dampness along the east wall. I made a call & within a couple of days Nate came & explained what needed to be done. He promptly set up the repair appointment to be done the next week. Two men fixed the leaking wall in a couple of hours and the wall and floor is now dry. We are thankful for good service & the warranty. "

"Hired for crawlspace drainage and encapsulation. Horrible experience. Completely misdiagnosed the problem and then oversold me on services that were likely unneeded. Shoddy workmanship noted after the first day and required me to crawl the entire space every evening to develop a list of everything that was done incorrectly. 3 day job turned into 3 weeks in order for them to fix all the mistakes. Would not utilize them again even if they paid me to let them do the work."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Zionsville, IN

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
