Customers say: Quality work

"I heartily recommend Petros Floros of Floros Plumbing & Heating Co. from Melrose, serving the greater Boston area. He is a master Plumber who is expert, reliable and efficient. He has a genial demeanor and is easy to work with. No matter what he is doing, he will manage to fit you in for most immediate emergency jobs and in a reasonable time for the rest. His customer reviews on Yelp and Google and Angi are all sterling. I recently used him for a double install job with a new kitchen faucet and garbage disposal. He whipped through the project and left everything brand spanking new in perfect working order. I have used him in the past and he never disappoints."

"Sila, after originally misdiagnosing my furnace troubles, stepped up and were awesome. They sent an emergency tech out, no additional charge, to get the correct diagnosis (needed a new furnace). The next day they had their project team out and after we agreed to purchase through them on a Friday, they had their install team in on Monday morning. So far so good. Helped me get a smaller, more efficient furnace, and didn't replace anything I didn't need, like a/c. I've used Sila for years for other HVAC and plumbing jobs and their always professional and timely. Not the cheapest, but you get great service."

"It went well. The only ding I'd give them is on the first morning they were to arrive, when they didn't show up in the time window they specified, I gave them a call (1/2 hour after the window) to find out that they couldn't make it that day - they were dealing with an emergency. They did offer to try to make it out that day but mine wasn't at the emergency level so I was OK to reschedule for a couple of days later and they arrived within the hour time window they specified (which I think is great - how often do you get a 1 hour arrival window?). I'm going to call that ding very minor however because with this kind of thing where a failure can cause lots of damage its the work that matters to me most and I thought it was first rate, joints looked clean and see below for extra work they put in. Also, prices were comparable to a couple of other quotes that I got. On site, the operations manager Peter McIlroy was very courteous, professional and clear about communicating what was happening as the work progressed and they got things done in a reasonable amount of time. There was a failure on the cold water intake valve (original with the house equipment) which they replaced and they also mounted this basement hot water heater around 4" up on a concrete slab - it had been directly on the floor previously - in order to make the work more robust (provide immunity to basement flooding). I appreciated the extra attention to detail and they did this at no additional cost. My broken heater was under a Sears warranty, which they still honor even though they're out of business, and they were willing to pay the cost of the hot water heater alone but the receipt had to be written up itemizing that alone and Waterworks Mechanical was able to accommodate me so that Sears would pick up the tab for the heater. I'll hire these guys again probably for any plumbing thing I need done in my house."

"Daniel was able to solve a plumbing problem I had that a previous plumber tried 3 times to solve but couldn’t. He did a great job, was reasonably priced, always on time and cleaned up after finishing his work. I was so impressed I hired him for a second job on the spot. I would highly recommend Daniel for any plumbing issues you may have."

"Very good. <br /> Responsive and easy to deal with.   Mike assessed the cause of the leak, but had to guess and then reassess when tile came up because the cause was ultimately hidden under tile (previous remodel job we had done was a disaster, and now we were paying the price). <br /> Turned out to be much more expensive job than we had hoped, because things had to be ripped out and re-installed.  And Mike is not a cheap hire -- rather, he is a professional who knows his business inside-out, and you do get the service and skills that go with that. <br /> Much of the work (tile turned out to be outside of his purview, and reinstall of shower doors, sheetrock repair, etc.) was not in his field, as he is not a general contractor.   Does plumbing and does it well, but we had to be our own contractor for rest of the work.  which is another story. <br /> We will definitely use him again. <br />"

"He did a wonderful job, he was able to unclogged my drain. He also unclogged the drains in the master bathroom upstairs and the drain in the bathroom of my basement. They used their own machinery so everything will drain out better. I was very happy with the work done and I would hire him again. It wasn't an easy job but he did manage to unclogged the pipes. I would definitely hire him again and in fact, I already recommend him to my friends."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Charlestown, MA

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
