"Troy and his team did an amazing job from start to finish. We needed our existing shower and tile removed and replaced with a tub and new tile. The process was amazingly painless - despite some issues with our plumbing - which they handled on the spot without missing a beat. We were amazed at how quickly the job was completed, and let me tell you, it is BEAUTIFUL. I don't think I have ever been this happy with remodeling work done in my home. We already are planning to remodel our upstairs bathroom, and are looking forward to working with Troy and his team again!"

"Mr. Townsend contacted me in a timely manner and adjusted his schedule to meet the tight time constraints we are under with our purchase contract. He examined the exterior and interior of the basement and went through exactly what would need to be done. He was a pleasure to work with and if we are able to reach an agreement on the home we will be contacting him to do the work. <br />"

"John from Pauli Builders came to my house, listened to what I wanted done, and offered suggestions.  Someone not connected with Pauli tested my home for air leakage before and after the insulation was blown in - a 65% improvement and Ameren <br /> paid for around half of the cost for that.  Pauli Builders removed my old sink and toilet and the basement trim and disposed of it. <br /> They put on the new trim, the bathroom was redone, and the lights installed.  This was done for me in a timely manner.  John <br /> would check with me as to when I would be ready for the next step.  When everything was done, John came out to see the <br /> completed jobs and to make sure I was satisfied with everything that was done.  I had a minor issue with where the sink drain went into the wall.  It was promptly taken care of and I am very happy with everything that was done.  Pauli Builders installed new <br /> windows Pella)for me in 2012.  Having them do the installation saved me  money.  I would recommend them to anyone who <br /> wants remodelling done in their home.  They are prompt, courteous, and they do a good job. <br /> <br />"

"The work was done properly and when some additional jobs were added, Mr Grant went out of his way to get subcontractor's in to fix the added jobs promptly. I was very happy with the results and would recommend Steven Grant Construction to anyone who needed a prompt quote and a properly done job. He took the extra steps to finish my job within the quote so I stayed on budget."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Peoria, IL

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
