"This was a BIG structural, challenging project that and the first significant renovation my husband and I have ever been involved with. I had worked with Pedro (principal of Crystal Construction) on a couple of small jobs previously. His work had been excellent and so we trusted him with this much more significant job. We didn't hire an architect because we were essentially keeping the same three-room layout that existed in the basement, but we did need a structural engineer that Pedro connected us with in order to remove two of the three posts that split up the basement's largest room, and replace it with a beam. Subcontractors hired by Pedro did the electrical work (significant, as it involved moving our panel, mentioned above), plumbing (also significant as we were adding a bathroom, and due to the existing plumbing we had to install a pump to move waste water from the shower and toilet to the waste pipe), and HVAC. <br /> Pedro is terrific to work with. Aside from the VERY high-quality end product he delivers, really the greatest thing about him is he is incredibly responsive and communicative. We were in daily text or phone contact through out the summer (job ran from mid-June through mid-November) and I was never left wondering what was going on or where he was. With a job as large and long as this one, that's incredibly important and valuable. He's personable and very pleasant to deal with - again, really important when you are working with someone as closely as you are with your general contractor on a major project. There were a number of structural challenges involved in this project and we were able to work together very well to figure them out. There were very few added costs, none of them due to Pedro or his subs but rather previous (shoddy) work that had been done on the house. About a quarter of the way through the project we also decided that we wanted to remove the bulkhead - our own choice to add costs and time. <br /> All Pedro's own employees and the subs he used were also extremely nice and easy to deal with. Everyone did a great job containing the mess and aside from the dumpster in our driveway and the building permit on the door, most of the time we wouldn't have known they were there. While much of this was due to the nature of the project - we hadn't used the basement for anything but storage previously and other areas of the house were largely unaffected - everyone was extremely courteous and considerate. I highly recommend Crystal Construction."

"After discovering black mold creeping up the sheetrock along my basement wall we found that we had a hidden leak that we thought came from the patio door above. The home owners ins adjuster told us to hire a contractor and to brace ourselves because he believed the damage was extensive. He was right. We hired Matt Palmer (MMP Construction) and he gave us the devastating news that the entire lower half of the house was rotted from water damage due to an improperly flashed deck that ran along the back of the house.  I desperately wanted to save the deck, (54X12). It was a difficult task, but Matt was able to save it. <br /> Matt worked diligently, stayed in contact with me (I was not able to be present during the day) and in the end gave us a great product. Matt was not only skillful, but very knowledgeable, creative, and professional. I will definitely be hiring him again. <br /> <hr />"

The quality of workmanship for the plumbing and tiling were excellent. I had a complete bathroom remodel done with new tub, floor and wall tiling and tiled bathtub surround. "We hired Richard to finish our basement and it was a pleasure working with him and his team from start to finish. When we moved into our house, we immediately knew we wanted to finish our basement. To do this, we also knew that we had to deal with our old, not to code, basement stairs. When contractors came to give quotes, most told us that the stairs would be an issue, and one contractor even told us it was impossible (and that it wasn’t worth finishing the basement). Richard not only provided us with a solution for moving the stairs, but he also spent his own time meeting with the town building inspector to go over his proposed plans before giving us a full quote and signing a contract with us. This kind of forward thinking helped us to feel comfortable hiring him to complete the work. It is also worth noting that even though Richard was the only contractor whose quote included moving the stairs, it was very competitive being neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. Throughout the basement remodel, Richard and his team were very communicative and quick to respond to our questions, comments, or concerns. They listened to our ideas and always had great ideas for how to either make what we wanted happen or to propose improvements on what we were thinking about. In the end, Richard helped us to build the basement that we wanted, and today we have a beautiful basement, which includes a laundry room, a library space, and an open area for our kids to play. On top of all of this, we also have a new stairway and a new kitchen pantry where the old stairs were. The new stairs fit in seamlessly, almost like they’ve always been that way. We would gladly work with him again on a future project, and would definitely recommend him to others considering similar projects."
