Video Transcript for "Luxury Master Bedroom Suites"
Lupberger on luxury master bedroom suites: Hi, I'm David Lupberger with Servicemagic.com. For the past several years, architects and builders have been faced with a new challenge - turning master bedrooms into something special...a retreat from the rest of the house. Now if you're wondering what this has to do with hot tubs and gazebos,..then take your imagination a few steps further...into what's becoming one of the biggest trends in home remodeling. The master bedroom is now...the master suite. Master suites are now becoming the home within a home. In high-end construction and remodels, virtually anything you'd normally find in the rest of the house is now just a few footsteps from the bed.
Vicki Pelletier/Parade of Homes on master bedroom suites: It's an all-in-one room...you can shower, do your laundry, you can read a book, you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a glass of wine in the evening and watch the news...it's that spectacular.
Lupberger: Vicki Pelletier is in charge of Denver's Parade of Homes. In the past eight years, she's witnessed an evolution of the master bedroom.
Vicki: Eight years ago you would see massive bedrooms with huge beds. And now you've got more of a warm, living feeling. It's kind of become a retreat for mom and dad, so to speak.
Lupberger on luxury master bedroom suites: These rooms are definitely spectacular. With a closet big enough to make you dizzy, and room for a washer and dryer, a sub-zero freezer and fridge...Fireplaces, widescreen tv's hidden behind shudders...And yes...Even a waterfall in the shower built for two...These master suites allow the owners to get a whole day's work - or play - done without ever leaving the room.
Dave: It's kind of like being in a tree house up here on this third level.
Lupberger: Dave Gillis and his wife recently turned the entire third floor of their 19th century Queen Anne into a 21st century master suite. The bedroom is expansive and the 5-piece master bath is filled with brand new travertine tile...And is larger than a lot of bedrooms.
Dave: Just the physical space we have to stretch out in. It's phenomenal It's the entire third level. It's about 1000 square feet just for the master suite. We've never experienced that kind of luxury before, so it's really been a wonderful thing for us to have.
Lupberger on luxury master bedroom suites: The Gillis's aren't the only couple who've decided to create a special retreat for themselves. Architects say no matter the income of the homeowners, the number of requests they're getting to draw up master suite plans is skyrocketing, for both new constructions and remodeling projects.
Suzanne: Every project I've done in the past year has centered around a master suite remodel of some sort.
Lupberger: Suzanne Minear is an architect with "A Place in Time". She's also a highly-rated ServiceMagic.com prescreened professional. Suzanne says homeowners don't have to spend a ton of money to create their own master suite.
Suzanne: By taking out one dividing wall, they can drastically increase the space available for a master suite. Instead of 4 bedrooms upstairs, now there's three and one of them is a much larger suite. And the cost that's involved with that is really not phenomenal.
Lupberger on luxury master bedroom suites: And much of the cost of remodeling a master suite can be regained when the house is sold. By some estimates - around 70% of the cost of the project.
Dave: My wife and I really feel that this is going to add significant value to the house.
Lupberger conclusion: Remodeling your master bedroom can be as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be. If you'd like to find someone who can help you with the design, or the construction phase of your luxury master bedroom suite, to see what's possible in your house...check out ServiceMagic.com for a prescreened professional in your area.
