David Lupberger on How to Extend the Life of Your Garage Door Opener: Hi I'm David Lupberger with ServiceMagic.com. I'm here in my garage to take care of a neglected piece of maintenance that most homeowners don't understand it's important to lubricate your automatic garage door. So we're going to do this in a two part process. We're going to lubricate the track & wheels and we're also going to lubricate the chain. You'll see I've got some lubricant, but this isn't just any lubricant, this is a heavy duty garage door operator lubricant. Any good hardware store will have this. I recommend that you lubricate both the wheels and track every six month. Let me show you how to do this. I'm going to focus on the wheel. I'm also going to lubricate the best I can the track. Make sure you do each of the wheels along with all of the track. Lupberger: So the next step in this process is to lubricate this chain. Because if I lubricate this chain the wheels and the track and do this regularly this motor isn't going to work as hard and it should last longer. let me show you what I'm going to do. I'm going to take my garage door opener. I'm going to start the door so it's going down. I'm going to take my lubricant and lubricate the chain as it goes by. These are two simple maintenance tips that when you lubricate the wheels, chain and track it will extend the life of your garage door motor and overtime will save you money. These are things that are easy to do and you can get them done.
