string lines work well for the inexperienced and cost less than looking stupid does. always assume that the unthinkable can happen when building a roof whether it is stick or trussed.

Mine is a Hillbilly outdoor ktchen. All materials are salvaged. Cast iron sink, mosaic tile countertop, cast iron grill, treated and composit wood for framing, a couple of discared umbrellas and outdoor furniture and fire pit made from and old concrete mixer tops it all off. I feed the sink with the outdoor faucet. It didn't cost me a dime. I do construction clean up and hauling so all of these items were very easy to find.

Lupberger on custom outdoor kitchens: Hi, I'm David Lupberger with ServiceMagic.com. Outdoor Kitchens are one of the fastest growing trends in home improvement. More than ever, the backyard barbecue is becoming a centerpiece for family, friends and even business meetings. Today, we're taking a closer look at this trend and what it takes for you to start planning your own backyard, custom outdoor kitchen.
Lupberger on outdoor kitchen ideas: In the last few years, the demand for outdoor kitchens has skyrocketed as homeowners bring the comforts of the indoors, outside. Stores like Lehrer Fireplace and Patio in Denver now keep a full range of outdoor appliances on hand. So, can you tell me how popular custom outdoor kitchens have become in the last few years?
Ken Lehrer/Lehrer Fireplace and Patio: It's grown dramatically. In fact, it's hard to even calculate the numbers. Everybody's coming because there's the capability of whatever level that they want.
Lupberger: So everything literally that an indoor kitchen can do, we can bring outdoors.
Ken Lehrer on custom outdoor kitchen ideas: Yes, you can. This here would be a prep station. You have your sink, ice chest, vegetable trays. This is an example of a trash container. We can do everything up above where we prep it and slide it into the trash containter. Here's an example of warming drawers where you can steam and have everything set here. Sideburners...where you're actually doing your accessory items, eliminating going inside. That was the traditional way of running back inside, going back and forth. This takes care of all that cooking. And then you've got storage drawers...and even right here what you have is refrigeration, where you have marinating drawers and everything you can imagine. So as I was mentioning, you literally do not ever have to go inside.
Lupberger on custom outdoor kitchens ideas: That means that whatever your taste, you can find something that suits your needs. A basic model like this runs about 2-thousand dollars. A more complete kitchen like this one could up around 20-thousand or more, depending on how many bells and whistles you want.
Ken Lehrer on customizing outdoor kitchens: The shape and size of these are unlimited.
Lupberger on custom outdoor kitchens: (shots of Corey building a kitchen) And make no mistake, building an outdoor kitchen is a construction project that requires a professional with the skills to bring it all together. Corey Transue is a pre-approved ServiceMagic professional who now builds outdoor kitchens exclusively.
Corwin Transue on custom outdoor kitchen ideas: I work with the homeowner. I go out to their house. I take a look at the setting that we're building it in and I talk to them about what ideas they want it to be used for, do they want more counter space, seating area, how big of a grill, what are all your components and we design around those ideas. And then aesthetically we match it to the colors that are already going in the house.
John Dickkut on his new custom outdoor kitchen: We wanted a place where when we come home from work, we can escape to our backyard.
Lupberger: John Dickkut is one of Corey's happy customers. He dreamed big when it came to his outdoor kitchen and loves to show it off.
John Dickkut on custom outdoor kitchens: To be honest with you, it's gotten us away from the TV. I think we talk more, we share more because we're doing it out here.
Lupberger outdoor kitchen ideas conclusion: Outdoor kitchens may also add value to your home. It will, at the very least, create an impression on those who see it.
