    Kitchen remodeling

"We met with Chris while in due diligence for our new home. We met with 2 others to discuss possibilities renovating the kitchen. Chris was the only one to speak about his design ideas cautiously and realistically given our space and our budget. He was very clear and honest about what could be done and how much various other things would seriously blow up the budget. It's hard to describe the feeling this approach gave us. It felt notably honest and even tempered compared to the "gung ho, let's go!" approach we also encountered. It really made us trust him to do the job without being conned. Trust is an invaluable trait. Trusting him and his crew to remodel a kitchen is one thing. Trusting a contractor (and his minions) into your home with a toddler is another. Not only did Chris, Wes, David, and Isaias meet those expectations, they went above and beyond. They took great care to clean up during and after their work. There was no hollering, swearing, or anything else for a 2 year old to pick up on other than learning some "Hola!" and "Adios". This may not sound relevant to a kitchen remodel but, if your home has a similar context, it's helpful to know a team that can feel like part of the family after a week. In addition to feeling like part of our family, it was evident the care and camaraderie shared between the guys. The respect they have for one another comes through in their casual conversation while working but also in the way they approach problems or complications in the project, with calm discussion and sharing of ideas to get the job done right. Chris took great care to make sure every variable detail was just the way, my wife wanted it. He checked and confirmed with us on any component that had multiple options. He also gave us DIY options to save costs, and gave suggestions on how to do some of that stuff. Our experience with Chris and the crew give us the confidence to recommend them to fit the needs of remodel jobs with a realistic budget. They are well worth their time and pay. We are giving them some time off before calling them back for some of the other projects we so cleverly devised while they were here. One thing to note, Chris is a phone call type of guy. So if you get worried he's run off with your cabinet deposit because he hasn't responded to your texts: 1)make sure you actually have his number correct in your phone. 2) Call. Between saving lives in Matthews, and remodeling kitchens around town, he's about as busy as can be but was always prompt and cordial responding to a phone call. Hope this helps!"

"Mario and his brother came highly recommended and hey did not disappoint. Mario did exactly what I wanted and even made suggestions that made the job that much better. They took two bedrooms and a bathroom and created a second master suite that was out of this world. Mario gave a quote that showed the complete breakdown and stuck to it. They took down walls, gave me French doors and a total gut of the bathroom to make it fit for a queen. I highly recommend them and I will definitely be using them or my next renovation."

Bathroom - Remodel, Addition to Existing Structure - Build, Kitchen - Remodel , and 2 more

"KP Builders came highly recommended by some friends who had work done at their home. Prior to signing the contract with KPB the owner of the company also arranged for a visit to a home where he had recently undertaken a full renovation of the basement. The initial discussions centered around our vision for the basement, the must haves, the nice to haves and the basic flow for the basement. The owner Alpesh is very easy to work with and fully understood the direction and design concept we were looking for. Budget discussions gave him an idea on the freedom of design he would have. His great understanding on the use of space and options to creatively use this space allowed him to take our ideas, improve upon this and detail a better solution that would work for us. Drawings were rendered based on our discussions with suggestions from Alpesh on how best to utilize the space and maximize the return on our investment. the different options on heating and cooling were discussed at length and the final layout agreed upon. Once we all agreed on design and budget, contracts signed and work began in earnest. The communications from KPB at all phases was excellent and meetings held regularly on progress. Sub contractors used on all phases were extremely professional and it was very pleasing to note that they cleaned up daily when they left the premises. Everyone took great pride in their work and their deliveries. As Alpesh understood the final look we were looking for his suggestions on lighting, cabinets, plumbing fixtures etc. were always on the mark. During this work my wife impressed with what was being done in the basement added more work for KPB to undertake in the Kitchen and family room of our home with some additional remodeling. Alpesh arranged for this work to be done during the basement phase. The work was completed very professionally, inspectors did not find reason to not sign off and we have been extremely pleased with the end result. Highly recommend KP Builders for remodeling work."

Frequently asked questions

  • It’s important that you verify their license is still in good standing. Also keep in mind that certain states or provinces don’t require licensing if the job is under a certain dollar amount.
  • You can find a list of your state’s licensing requirements on the HomeAdvisor website. Before you get to work with the pro, make sure their qualifications are current and acceptable to you.
  • It is always a good idea to get a copy of the pro’s insurance certificate for future records, and in case anything happens. This is a good way to feel more secure in your home project, and to weed out potential scammers.

HomeAdvisor makes it easy to connect with pros near you. You can read reviews, get quotes and book appointments all in one place.

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.

You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.

Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:

  • Have you completed a job like this before?
  • Do you have a list of references I can contact?
  • When are you able to start the job?

In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.

  • How many years of experience do you have?
  • What’s your permanent business address?
  • Are you licensed to work in my area?
  • When did you earn your business license?
  • How do you handle warranty service complaints?
  • Do you have worker’s compensation, property damage and personal liability insurance?

Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
