"The contract session was with Stephan Boyer. He was very through and informative. We knew exactly what we were getting and what to expect. Chris Renda and his crew showed up as promised. They showed up with all materials and immediately started work. The crew took no breaks and barely took time for lunch.. Chris Renda kept us infomed of everything going on.He found that our dormers had not been wrapped or waterproofed so he removed all the siding and began wrapping and waterproofing the dormers for us! The crew took 5 days of hard nonstop work installing our beautiful new patina green metal roof. We are completely satisfied! !

"This work was done through Choice Home Warranty, with the repair being given to Sears Services. The first Technician diagnosed the problem as being the heating element on the bottom of the ice maker not working, so the dumping motor was under stress to push out the ice from the tray. The ice maker was replaced and tested fine. However, the new ice maker was a new model (the freezer is 13 years old) and appeared to be identical except that the ice maker plug cover did not connect to the freezer wall to cover the plug. The cover was left pushed down on the electric cord and in the path of the back finger that pushes out the rear cube. That stopped the ice maker from working. Only notice it about 30 minutes after the Technician left. Called within hours but had to wait a week for the next appointment. That second appointment was postponed due to an illness of the Technician and pushed back to the following week. The Technician who came completely removed (cut off) the plug cover, which may not have been necessary. I think it would have been possible to cut off the 2 inserts molded into the cover intended to snap into slots in the freezer wall (the old cover used screws to hold it to the wall) and cover the plug and the multi-colored wires going into it. Now all that is visible. I also had the second Technician adjust the side-by-side, separate framed refrigerator and freezer as they had been misaligned by a prior Technician. The magnetic spacer between the units was preventing the refrigerator door from properly closing. The Technician was thorough in his work, removing the bottom panel of the frame kit to get to the levelers on the bottom of the units and also be able to grab and shift the units into alignment. After he left we noticed that the refrigerator door, though closing properly, seems to be easier to open . . . . like the magnetic seal is not as strong. The door closes tight but just seems different. Don't know why."

"After looking for a home to buy in 2008 I could not find what I wanted. I then decided to buy a lot and build. I had never built a home before and was very reluctant to do so because of the horrors I had heard from others that built. I was told the key was to find the right builder. I purchased a lot and had plans drawn for the house I wanted (on my own) and then took them to several builders. The prices were much higher than I anticipated. When I met with Tony Mills of Mills Family Properties, he explained why the estimates were so high and recommended that I have the plans revised. He was very up front with me and unapologetic for his recommendations. I followed his advise, making the chages he recommended. Together, we got the price in the range I expected while still getting the house I wanted. I then employed Tony to construct the house. Tony laid out a very specific budget for me before starting construction and explained what that estimate included. He then began construction. All along the way he would visit with me about the budget and carefully explained what was coming so I would stay on budget. When I asked him for something additional, he never said it could not be done, he explained what was needed and what additional cost I would incur. Sometimes I made the changes, sometimes I did not. It took approximately six months for him to complete the house and at no time did we sit idle waiting for work to be done. He was always on top of the work and what was coming next. He had his subs lined up and kept me posted on what I needed to do next. I found Tony to be very direct with me about what he could and could not do and never had to apologize for the work that was done. I like the fact that he did not "blow smoke" and deliver something that he did not promise. The end result was me getting the house of my dreams, excellently constructed at a price that I could afford. The craftsmanship was excellent and I have a gorgeous home...just ask my friends. Tony went to great lengths to make sure the I got the home I WANTED, not something he forced on me. He was careful to find out my wishes, give his advise and then do the work. I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO BUILD ANOTHER HOUSE USING MILLS FAMILY PROPERTIES.

We are a small painting business with the man power and skills to take on bigger jobs. We have combined 35 years of experience and our prices are very reasonable.

"I had the fireplace doctors come out to see if my chimney had cracks in it because my roof was leaking.  They told me that the chimney looked fine but my old cap may be the cause.  They would have charged me 75 dollars just to come out and tell me the chimney looked fine or I could put that money toward the new $500 chimney cap.  I agreed to the new chimney cap, he took measurements and put my order in.  A couple of weeks later he came to put the cap on but it was too small and decided to hammer it in place which bent up the cap on one corner.  A couple of months later I noticed that the caulking had come undone around the flue and was dripping water which traveled down my rafter to the attic.  In their defense, it was a very hot summer so maybe the caulk melted...but still.  I called them and said I wanted the cap replaced.  They came out and took measurements again and had to fabricate the new cap which takes a couple of weeks.  After not hearing from them for about a month I had to call and inquire of the whereabouts of my cap.  Its really not easy getting a hold of them sometimes.  They have a call center in Florida so I guess its not necessarily the owners fault.  Anyway, after a couple days of back and forth they set up an appointment to come install the cap.  This time it was a little too big but that's ok.  A couple of weeks ago we had really strong winds in our area and I heard a lot of banging coming from the chimney.  I went up a couple of days later and saw that the flue had came loose in the cap and was banging from side to side.  There were only two screws to hold it in place and when it blew too far to one side, it came loose from the screw and then it blew to the other side and came loose from the other screw.  I tried to put the screws in myself but they came out a couple of days later.  So I called again, explained the problem and they set up an appointment to fix it.  I wasn't at home on the day of the appointment because I'm not going to take off 3 or 5 hours of work so they can do a 10 minute job.  I called the next day to see if they came out and the man on the phone said they did.  That evening I went on the roof to see if it was fixed and it was not.  I called again and played phone tag again for a couple of days and now they are supposed to come out tomorrow.  At least they try to get around to fixing it, ill give them that, but overall the experience hasn't been good.

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."
