"Issac was very professional and easy to do business with. I had them refresh my gravel driveway and install new stone around my garden beds. They did a great job."

"I couldn’t be happier with the transformation of my courtyard! Once I requested a quote, the communication was prompt and an appointment was scheduled within just a few days. The team was knowledgeable, professional, and attentive throughout the entire process. They really listened to my vision for a low-maintenance design, suggesting the perfect combination of easy-care plants and zero-maintenance rock bedding. Jim was especially thorough in ensuring everything met our expectations. When I requested a more mature shrub than the one originally delivered, it was swapped out the very same day. They also checked in throughout the installation to confirm the project was on track with what I had envisioned. Start to finish, this company exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality landscaping services!"

"Island Creek Landscape was amazing!  They had the work done in less time than we imagined and had to work in some bad weather conditions.  The patio and firepit look amazing and we couldn't be happier.  The team even went above and beyond my moving dirt into areas of our yard that needed some work - they also fixed our fence gate during the install.   <br /> The cleanup was immaculate and we were ready to use the patio when they finished on a Friday.   <br /> I've already started recommending Island Creek to my friends! <br />"

"Great job, done in one day. Had French drain installed a couple of years ago, which was done well for reasonable price. First and only choice when needed this new drain pipe replacement. Happy to recommend."

"We recently had our fence line cleared, yard leveled and brick pavers installed by Paragon Landscape Management, and the entire experience was outstanding from start to finish. The crew was professional, punctual, and highly skilled. They took the time to understand our vision, offered helpful suggestions, and delivered results that exceeded our expectations. For example, we mentioned that the area behind our garage frequently got muddy but we weren't ready to commit to installing sod in the area. They suggested mulch and it has worked so well these past few months and looks wonderful! Plus our dog rarely tracks mud into the house now. Our project was overseen by Jack and Martin who were fantastic and communicated with us throughout. The workmanship is flawless, and the attention to detail shows in every corner of the space. We've gotten so many compliments on it!"

"Tim was on time for our meeting and on the spot provided useful suggestions for what absolutely should be done (sump pump and basin replacement), what would be good to do (seal crawlspace vents and install liner and dehumidifier, and what didn't really need to be done (mold remediation and replacement of floor joist insulation).  He was cordial, willing to accommodate my needs and came with samples of the liners he uses for crawlspaces. <br /> We met on a Monday and I didn't get his estimate until Saturday while competitors gave a quote within a day or two of meeting.  The estimate included removing my old insulation and replacing it with new insulation and scrubbing off the mold, which he'd previously said wasn't needed.  It also included replacing my broken but cosmetically fine crawlspace vents and then sealing them shut.  I ended up having a company just seal the existing vents shut with foam board insulation which made a whole lot more sense to me.  The estimate was very brief and did not explain what was included in his sealed crawlspace system (it varies from company to company) and he provided no supporting materials while competitors gave very detailed contracts and in some cases booklets explaining their sealed crawlspace systems.  One thing that was clear is that required electrical and HVAC work was the responsibility of the customer; some competitors offer a turnkey solution so their customer doesn't have to act as their own general contractor.  No explicit warranty was offered while a couple of competitors offered various degrees of warranty on liner durabilty and/or moisture control.  It's difficult for me to compare AccuDry's price to the competition due to several items in AccuDry's quote that were not recommended by any competitors and the lack of clarity on what is included in the AccuDry sealed crawlspace. <br /> I feel like I could have found a way to work with Tim on my crawlspace but it would have required a good deal more effort on my part just to figure out the costs involved for what really needed to be done while the company I went with had made it all very clear to me with a day or two and offered a very good price.  <br /> <br />"

"It was wonderful and great, I loved working with Brian and his guys. I had a paver patio started by someone else who did not complete it. There was a lot of work in picking up pavers that were already set down and redoing things. Brian is easy and fun to talk to, he is energetic and creative. He really helped me clear up my vision and see things I hadn't seen before. The walls and landscaping really complete the patio, they were like the icing on the cake."

"It went great! They delivered it immediately. Quality was great. We ordered 10 cubic yards (which is a lot--like 2,000+lbs!) and there were only a couple of pieces of small trash in the whole giant pile. It was definitely comparable to bagged mulch at Lowes or Home Depot-- except a lot more cost efficient. And since they delivered it, we only had to spread it-- not load our own vehicle at the store and then unload again at home (over and over again!) <br /> We will be using Henson's every year going forward. I was thrilled with the experience. <br /> P.S. They have an online calculator to help you figure out how much mulch you need for your area. After also talking with them on the phone, I think the amount we got was almost exactly what we needed! <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Albemarle, NC

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
