"We've only had the windows installed for a couple of weeks but so far everything is perfect.   <br /> We started with a list of 5 window replacement providers that we thought we should get quotes from (Anderson Renewal, Pella, Grand Rapids Glass Block, Home Depot and 1-800 Hansens).  The first 2 interview/quotes were with Anderson and Pella.  The sales people for those two companies were very nice and knowledgeable without being to pushy.  Unfortunately their quotes were outrageously high, so high my wife and I discusses moving instead of having the windows replaced!  The 3rd interview was with Grand Rapids Glass Block and didn't go very well, we had questions about the casement windows and requested to see one but never heard back from the sales person or anyone else at Grand Rapids Glass Block.  The Home Depot Interview was good but I wasn't overly impressed with the windows.   <br /> The 1800-Hansens interview never happened because we kept hearing horror stories about them from our friends.  My wife called and canceled the meeting but they refused to take no for an answer and insisted a representative would show up.  After several minutes of arguing with them my wife finally ended up telling them if anyone shows up at our house they wouldn't be let in and hanging up.  Five minutes later we got a call from a "supervisor" at Hansens stating that someone would show up the next day.  After more shouting and threats they finally gave in and hung up.  Short story, don't even think about 1-800-Hansens unless you enjoy harassment. <br /> My 12 year old son suggested we call Polar Seal after seeing one of their commercials on TV.  I wasn't familiar with them so I checked them out on the Better Business Bureau and Angie's List sites and they looked pretty good.  The interview process was super smooth and the salesman was very informative and not pushy at all.  The windows looked to be as good as the Anderson or Pellas and cost about HALF the price.  Polar Seal also had more color options which was a nice bonus. <br /> After giving Polar Seal the go ahead they delivered and installed the windows about 5-6 weeks later.  The installation crew was very nice and courteous.  They kept us informed of how the progress was coming, when they would be showing up and also when they would be done.  They didn't leave a mess inside or outside of the house.  Everything looks excellent! <br /> We did have one small issue with a window that didn't open correctly and they sent someone immediately to fix it (no charge of course).  The fix was quick and now the window works as expected. <br /> I hadn't really heard much about Polar Seal before but I sure am glad we found out about them before we went with an inferior product or crazy expensive one. <br />"

"When your shopping for replacement windows you have to be careful. I received quotes from several companies and the prices and quality varied wildly. Not to mention some sales people spent most of their time trash talking the competition. And what they don't tell you is what you have to watch out for. A couple things I learned to watch for: 1. Energy Star Ratings - In 2016 the rating was raised the energy star rating, and many company's windows do not make the new standards. Therefore they do not perform as well and do not qualify for any rebates from the utilities. 2. Quality, I'm no expert on replacement window construction. You hear foam filled and foam filling adds nothing, allot of talk about seams etc. I didn't know what to believe or what was good or bad after a while. So I went back to the Energy Star Rating. That told me about the performance in scientific terms. Window World windows are Energy Star Rated. Also the Window World Sales Person demonstrated their window performance in a way no others did. He froze one side of the window and asked us to touch the other side and did we feel any cold. We didn't then he put a torch flame to the inside. If there was heat transfer it would have quickly melted the frost on the other side it didn't. Very impressive. 2. The Price and Discount Game - All companies make the windows custom to fit the opening, so if your making them custom, size doesn't matter as much.. Several companies came out and measured each one and say you have so many this size and that size and this type and that type. There would be allot of pencil and calculator activity. Resulting in a very high number. Which they they would then start calculating discounts for this and that. Even had one sales guy tell me he normally gets 10% commission, but would only take 2% just for me. Not to mention he told me he had bone cancer (looked pretty healthy to me) Figured he was trying to get the sympathy sell. It's all a game to make you feel like your getting a real deal. Just look at the bottom line price. What I liked about Window World is it was simple. All windows are custom, so there was basically one price. No games and they still came in lower than everybody else for energy star windows. Many of the larger companies you hear advertised all the time on television came in thousands higher. At the end just take the total and divide it by the number of windows. Don't be pressured, was told the discounts and offers were only good for one day. I am very satisfied with the quality of the window, and the installation. 15 window, one day to put them all in and on the second day they did all the outside flashing. I watched the installation and found it to be very good. The main installer had 18 years experience with Window World, was pleasant and respectful to deal with. In summary, after my long search I am very happy I chose Window World."

"We did a lot of home improvement last year. They were very punctual. They came in and gave a good, accurate estimate. Everything came through perfectly. All of my windows had to be custom made. They told me five weeks, four weeks and three days later, they called me and said my windows were done. They installed them the week after that. I have them come out and bid on the front."

"Matt made an hour trip to look at three old windows I knew would be an issue come winter. He was super informative and helpful and I’ve arranged for all three to be replaced by fall. I’m anxious to see them and experience the high quality and efficiency myself!! The installers have already arranged to come create the materials list so they can insure the best quality install and I was impressed by that as well. Thank you! I’ll follow up with pics when they are installed :)"

"I recently contacted WMGB regarding the installation of glass block windows in my basement. We were able to quickly schedule a time for them to give me a quote and Keith from the sales team did an excellent job of walking me through all the options. Approx. 2-3 hours after I received the quote, someone called to schedule the actual installation. Brandon and Devin from the installation team arrived promptly on the scheduled date and did an excellent job of removing the existing windows and installing the new glass block windows. Overall, I had a great experience with WMGB!"

"Glass Doctor came out within a day of contacting them to provide an estimate for the replacement of a broken window. They contacted me about a week after ordering the window and made arrangements for the replacement. They arrived at my house at the time of the appointment and called 30 minutes ahead to make sure it was still a good time. They were professional, courteous and did a good job. I would use them again."

"Very satisfied with the entire installation. Stained window interiors matched our oak woodwork perfectly. Great looking windows and slider. The slider came with the wrong hardware. The correct hardware was obtained without any fuss and installed. Windows are expensive compared to other companies, but the end result was well worth the cost. It was all complete in 2 days. All workmen were very friendly."

"I chose Kalamazoo Handymen Services mainly due to the excellent communication Mark showed from the very beginning. It gave me the confidence that he not only listens to his customers, but also would respond to email, phone, and text messages in a timely manner. This is a rare quality from not only a handyman, but also most contractors I have worked with in the past. They were hired to install base trim, chair rail, and crown molding, as well as 2 bifold doors and a half wall cap which was just over 1000 square feet worth in a finished basement. He sub'd out the crown and the painting which I was perfectly OK with, and informed me of his decision to do so ahead of time while providing a quote for the entire project. Mark and Ryan showed up early every day and worked between 6-8 hours each day until the job was finished. The entire project took about 2 weeks, give or take. If they had any questions or had any issues, he was quick to get in touch with me. Alternatively, they were both very patient with me and all of the questions/changes I had thrown at them. Would highly recommend and I will most likely be in contact with Kalamazoo Handymen Services down the road for more work! Thanks again Mark and Ryan. The finished product looks great!"

FAQs for new windows service projects in Allegan, MI

Yes, bay windows add value to a home. They enhance the property by expanding the interior space and flooding rooms with natural light. Their unique three-panel design creates a stunning focal point that elevates curb appeal and modernizes living areas. This architectural detail increases both functional space and visual appeal, directly contributing to higher home resale value.

Yes, all window types have the potential to become part of a bay window configuration when modified correctly. The transformation involves reconfiguring standard windows into a multi-panel design that features a larger central window flanked by smaller ones. This process requires precise professional planning and custom framing to ensure durability, visual balance, and structural integrity.

Bay windows typically consist of three glass panels extending beyond the home's exterior walls, with a larger center panel flanked by two smaller ones. In contrast, bow windows are composed of four to six equally sized glass panels that create a gentle curve and do not extend as far from the exterior walls.

Bay windows cost more than standard windows because their expansive, multi-panel design requires additional materials and skilled labor. Their construction involves extra glass, specialized frame components that extend outward, and complex operating mechanisms. These technical demands necessitate precise engineering and multiple expert installations, thereby significantly increasing both material and labor expenses.

Bay windows cost three times more than standard double-hung windows because their design requires extra panels, expanded framing, and a more complex installation process. The advanced construction method increases material consumption and demands comprehensive expertise, while specialized window treatments further elevate expenses. This all results in a significant difference in overall project cost.
