"Lifetime Windows & Doors were great. We started thinking about replacing our aging aluminum frame windows a few years ago. We got visited by a door-to-door replacement window company and got a good quote. However, the windows were very “chunky” compared to our sleek aluminum windows. So we got a quote from the big replacement window company and got sticker shock. We then found that Milgard had replacement vinyl windows that we could get in black capstone (both internal and external color), but the replacement company never got back to us with a quote – even after many back and forth communications. We then found Lifetime Windows and Doors. Morgan and Lindsay were head and shoulders above all other vendors we worked with regarding communication. When we found out that Milgard was delayed with the black windows we wanted, they found that Simonton had a similar window and got us in their queue. Yes, it took a while to get windows, but Tony and Hugo did a great job, installing all 17 windows. We’re super happy with Lifetime Windows and Doors."

"Excellent. Could not be happier with both the quality of the windows and the installation process. There was an immediate noticeable difference in climate control and sound dampening. Their attention to detail during the estimate, window removal, installation and finish work made for a overall excellent experience, and I would gladly recommend them. The new windows greatly improve the look and comfort of my home."

"I did not end up going with Clear Choice as I ended up choosing a products they were unable to install (due to the manufacturer having different deals in place with local contractors) which I liked even better, however that said, I felt I should add a review here since my experience with Tim at Clear Choice was absolutely phenomenal. Tim showed up on time to our appointment. He was respectful of our home and time. He was the first contractor we had come to talk about windows and we weren't really sure what we wanted or would like. He walked us through a lot of the questions we had regarding vinyl vs fiberglass/composite windows explaining the benefits and drawbacks of each. He also explained to us the difference between a new installation and retrofit windows. Tim made recommendations which he felt were suitable to the climate and precipitation conditions of Portland, without pushing into options which would incur extra expense. In fact, in several instances he explained why "X" was not necessary and would incur extra cost. He also was super patient with us, providing us 4 different quotes in total. The first was just pre-COVID, the remainder in June 2020 as we learned and morphed what we wanted. He was patient and continuously responsive to my emails and follow up questions. I actually feel really bad about not hiring him, but as I said above, Clear Choice is not contracted with Marvin to install the specific window type we chose. The only negative thing I can say at all about my interaction with Tim is that maybe he is not enough of a salesman. He knows the products and knows windows, no doubt, but he did not have an aesthetic eye for our home. Part of our window replacement project goal included beautification, but I am not sure we got that element across to him. Overall, though, my experience with Clear Choice was top notch. If you are looking into replacement windows, they should be among the contractors you have come quote your job."

"<br /> <br /> Our 2001 Lexus RX300's check engine light and VSC light went on so we picked The Gold Wrench off of Angies list to have it checked out. We have 95K miles on the car and suspected the brakes needed doing but the car showed no signs of any issues while driving it. They couldn't get a conclusive code from the car on what the issue was. The code went out while in the shop so we decided to wait to see if it would go on again and had them service the transmission since it was there. My husband is a retired transmission man and this place was one of the few that dropped the pan when they serviced the transmission which is excatly what a shop should do to ensure the condition of your transmission. They performed the work and called us to tell us the engine light went on again and this time they got a good code off the cars computer telling us that an air sensor was out. So we had them perform the work and rotate the tires for us. They also checked our brakes and determined that we had plenty of brake life left and they told us that they didn't recommend us doing a brake job now. So our assement of the services is great! No hard sell on any of the fixes. We have piece of mind knowing they fixed the problem. The place is clean and organized, plenty of parking and easy to find. The people there are knowledgeable and honest and showed us our old parts that they replaced. My husband being in the automative services most of his life was very impressed with the whole operation there and said he has found his new mechanic now in this place which is a great recommendation coming from someone who is very automotive savy. They also told us that they use only products recommended by Lexus like the trany fluid they used on our car (very important if you want to extend the life of your car.We will send all our friends here now after this great experience."

"John Schwager is an excellent businessman. He returns calls promptly and provides written bids within a day or two. He tells you upfront that he installs only the best quality windows from manufacturers who stand by their warranties, and John stands behind his work, too. I had actually picked out a popular brand of window found in big box stores, and Parr's Lumber, but John explained why this brand of window was a poor choice and why it had many unhappy customers. (I did some research and found out that John was correct - lots of complaints about the company I had picked.) The window John recommended was ready exactly when John said it would be and he installed it promptly. <br />"

"Lu was very professional and answered all of my questions.  For the issues on my window, she recommend that I would be less expensive to just replace the insulated gas unit instead of replacing the entire window.  She put my interests above her own need to make money.   <br /> Very professional.  I would use them in a heart beat if I needed to buy new windows. <br /> <br />"

"Many of the windows in our house were painted shut when we bought <br>the house years ago. We lived with it. But high temperatures over the <br>past couple of years made these rooms increasingly uncomfortable. <br>So, we were delighted to learn of Fresh Air Sash Cord Repair, Inc. in Portland <br>that restores stuck windows to their original working condition. This entails a lot <br>of careful detailed work to free-up the windows by removing the lead paint, <br>re-balancing the original weights and installing new cords. Patty Spencer,  <br>the owner, and her assistant worked like surgeons. They set up an air-tight <br>enclosure in each room to contain the lead paint. Vacuums were on <br>almost all the time for further safety. Different electric tools were used <br>for different tasks to minimize damage to the windows. The outcome <br>is fantastic! All seven windows she repaired now work perfectly.  <br>There is nothing like a window that opens for cross ventilation <br>on a hot day. The cool early morning breeze through an open window <br>makes it easier to sleep. <br> <br> <br>"

FAQs for new windows service projects in Portland, OR

Yes, bay windows add value to a home. They enhance the property by expanding the interior space and flooding rooms with natural light. Their unique three-panel design creates a stunning focal point that elevates curb appeal and modernizes living areas. This architectural detail increases both functional space and visual appeal, directly contributing to higher home resale value.

Yes, all window types have the potential to become part of a bay window configuration when modified correctly. The transformation involves reconfiguring standard windows into a multi-panel design that features a larger central window flanked by smaller ones. This process requires precise professional planning and custom framing to ensure durability, visual balance, and structural integrity.

Bay windows typically consist of three glass panels extending beyond the home's exterior walls, with a larger center panel flanked by two smaller ones. In contrast, bow windows are composed of four to six equally sized glass panels that create a gentle curve and do not extend as far from the exterior walls.

Bay windows cost more than standard windows because their expansive, multi-panel design requires additional materials and skilled labor. Their construction involves extra glass, specialized frame components that extend outward, and complex operating mechanisms. These technical demands necessitate precise engineering and multiple expert installations, thereby significantly increasing both material and labor expenses.

Bay windows cost three times more than standard double-hung windows because their design requires extra panels, expanded framing, and a more complex installation process. The advanced construction method increases material consumption and demands comprehensive expertise, while specialized window treatments further elevate expenses. This all results in a significant difference in overall project cost.
