"I needed to replace all of the vinyl windows in my 2500 square foot two-story house (15 openings, I believe). I researched window companies that served my area based on reviews and came up with a list of five organizations. I then requested estimates from the top two on my list. Scientific Home Services was one of those I called. While you won't see any advertisements for Scientific Home Services, their reviews put them at the top of my list. Based on the estimates I received, an examination of the windows being offered and their specifications, and the warranties being offered, it was clear that Scientific Home Services offered the best value for me. I got premium double-hung vinyl windows (Climate Solutions 8000 Series) with LoE-366 glass, argon fill, and a transferable lifetime warranty for only a few hundred dollars more (in total) than the other organization's basic window. Scientific Home Services crew installed all of the new windows in a matter of two days. The crew was organized and worked well together. They seemed to enjoy their work. When I pointed-out that a few of the windows appeared to be binding, or when they ran across other problems during installation, they knew what to do and properly addressed the situations. I'm very pleased with the new windows and their appearance, the service I have received, and how much better insulated my house now is. I highly recommend doing business with Scientific Home Services. If you're looking for windows, I recommend you give Jon or Mark a call. My experience has been that they are very honest, open, and knowledgeable about the entire process of installing and replacing windows."

"The whole experience was amazing. The consult and quote we did on a Saturday with my kids all running around. James was patient and so nice to work with. They measured all the windows the next day or two and The windows were ready in three weeks after signing. The day of they showed up on time. The whole process took 4.5 hours. Five guy team for 11 windows replaced. They put carpet protector everywhere and cleaned up everything. They had to cut trim on front of house to get old window out however the trim they put back that encased the window looks great and like it was built that way. I have wainscoting under a window and was worried it could be damaged and they did a fantastic job replacing the window. Nothing dented or scraped. They made sure Everything was perfect before leaving. They even ran through all the functions of the window again after they were all installed. The outside was cleaned up after as well. There was nothing for us to do other than sit and watch and ask questions, which they were more than happy to answer. We love our windows and felt a difference in the heating of these rooms THAT night. Great windows - great service- great price. Will definitely be using them again!"

"Very well. The 2 installers began removing the old windows and door at approx. 8:30 am on January 13th and had the new ones fully installed and the job completed by 1:00 pm same day. They did an excellent job, laying down tarps to eliminate tracking in any snow and cleaned up so well that we didn't need to do any follow-up cleaning after they left."

"We had McCann come in to replace ALL our windows! Kevin came to quote them, we ordered them after we saw that their price was the best of ALL who came to quote. His team (Michael and Vitali) came to our place on Monday and they finished ahead of schedule (by one day). Their professionalism was amazing and our windows are exactly as planned! Highly recommended!"

"Brilliant here put her hand (very easily and silently) through the glass of the front door Wednesday night. Called MC Glass before 9 the next morning, and they said they could be at my house by 11:30. They were there before 11. Impressive. Gave me an estimate for replacing ALL the non-code 1/16-inch glass (not just what I broke) for both the front and kitchen doors, which had the original house glass in them. The estimate seemed a bit high but not out of range, and they could do the work Friday AM. Snow intervened, so they were half an hour late Friday, but the job took 1/2 hour less than planned, so they were still out on time. The glass is code: 1/8-inch safety glass. Both doors seem more stable, quiet and airless now. Very little damage was done to the paint and wood pieces between the glass. I certainly couldn't have been more careful, so I assume they couldn't either. The workman spread a quilt on my entrance tile to protec the area and cleaned up carefully. I'm pleased."

"Mike did a fantastic job replacing the screening material on every screen in my house. I had a few bent frames which he was able to straighten and now fit like new. Mike was also able to replace the screening material in some difficult to access older garage windows. With these repairs my house looks refreshed. From the start and throughout the process Mike communicated promptly and professionally. I highly recommend Mike!"

"Then realized they could do roofing and possibly some masonry work, maybe even some exterior painting and light carpentry.... along with the windows. They seemed interested when they met with me, but after that, it was the last I heard from them. All in all the jobs I priced out reached about $30k. I don't feel I need chase people down to spend this kind of money, so I went with other companies that were also highly rated here on Angie's list, who followed through. I found the lack of follow up odd given the high reviews given and the dollar amounts involved maybe they were just busy, but again, I'm not going to chase a vendor down to spend roughly $30k when there are handfuls of highly rated contractors out there."

FAQs for new windows service projects in Arlington Heights, IL

Yes, bay windows add value to a home. They enhance the property by expanding the interior space and flooding rooms with natural light. Their unique three-panel design creates a stunning focal point that elevates curb appeal and modernizes living areas. This architectural detail increases both functional space and visual appeal, directly contributing to higher home resale value.

Yes, all window types have the potential to become part of a bay window configuration when modified correctly. The transformation involves reconfiguring standard windows into a multi-panel design that features a larger central window flanked by smaller ones. This process requires precise professional planning and custom framing to ensure durability, visual balance, and structural integrity.

Bay windows typically consist of three glass panels extending beyond the home's exterior walls, with a larger center panel flanked by two smaller ones. In contrast, bow windows are composed of four to six equally sized glass panels that create a gentle curve and do not extend as far from the exterior walls.

Bay windows cost more than standard windows because their expansive, multi-panel design requires additional materials and skilled labor. Their construction involves extra glass, specialized frame components that extend outward, and complex operating mechanisms. These technical demands necessitate precise engineering and multiple expert installations, thereby significantly increasing both material and labor expenses.

Bay windows cost three times more than standard double-hung windows because their design requires extra panels, expanded framing, and a more complex installation process. The advanced construction method increases material consumption and demands comprehensive expertise, while specialized window treatments further elevate expenses. This all results in a significant difference in overall project cost.
