"MC Fence & Deck did an amazing job on our new vinyl fence! We wanted something low maintenance but stylish, and they delivered exactly what we asked for. John was super helpful from the start, walking us through our options and giving honest recommendations. The crew worked fast and left the yard clean when they finished. We highly recommend them if you need a fence. Great service and fair pricing!"

"Our experience went well, Mike was on time and his team remodeled our bathroom in a little over a week. We were able to reuse the claw foot tub that was in our home when we bought it and now it's in a bathroom design that looks great"

"Very pleasant experience. I was referred to them by a neighbor who had a fireplace and patio done by them. They were all friendly and worked very hard. They kept the area clean everyday. Throughout the job the project manager made sure I was happy with each phase of job and was lenient about changes. Very customer service oriented company. Would recommend them and will continue to add to my beautiful patio."

"After we had such a positive experience with Walter Castillo's work building our Arts and Crafts style niche with stained glass inserts in the doors for our great room, we asked Walter to give us a quote on building the cabinets for our tiny laundry room. We had just purchased and installed and new stackable washer and dryer and needed custom-fit lower, upper, and full-length cabinets in the remaining space in our laundry room. We also wanted a granite countertop installed, which Walter does not do himself, but was done with another company that he recommended that specializes in granite. Walter gave us a quote, which we negotiated to $3,000. We selected the style to be Shaker style outer doors and solid cherry wood. He took the measurements and we discussed some tricky areas and were happy with the design. The full-length cabinet was in two sections--one to fit the electric floor cleaner and one below to fit the canister vacuum. The other cabinets were to be used as a pantry with storage shelves throughout. When he returned a couple of weeks later and began installation, we noticed that the doors were not Shaker style but had been cut with the recess mitered and slanted instead of blunt cut and the recessed portion squared. He said his crew had not cut the doors as he had requested and took everything back to be recut. He was back the next day with the correctly cut doors. The installation had some tricky issues that were resolved easily. We went with him to his friend's granite shop and selected a perfect piece of 2" thick ubatuba (black with flecks) granite. Since it was a small piece from a damaged counter, we got it for $150. The granite company had done the measurements, so was responsible to redo it when the first attempt didn't fit. They had to totally recut our piece. The second attempt was perfect. The cabinets looked wonderful, except for a long door on the full-length cabinet ended up being very slightly warped.and askew, which bothers us but probably no one else notices. This was caused, according to Walter, by the solid wood construction of the door and its length. He said he would return to fix it and install the hardware, but never has. We are happy with the overall work, though, but would like to have this one little anomaly corrected. Walter still gets high marks from us."

FAQs for water dock building service projects in Ashburn, VA

With the right design and maintenance, a vinyl sea wall capped with concrete can serve you for 50 to 70 years, while poured-concrete walls last 50 to 60 years. Steel or aluminum options last 30 to 40 years, and treated wood holds up for 10 to 25 years. Plan on regular inspections and prompt repairs to keep any sea wall performing at its best for decades.

A bulkhead holds back soil in calm, inland waters, while a sea wall is built for pounding coastal waves. The sea wall’s job is to absorb and deflect wave energy, offering stronger erosion control. A bulkhead mainly keeps soil in place but isn’t designed to stand up to heavy surf.

A sea wall needs a deep footing—four to 10 feet or more—so it can resist shifting soils and constant wave pressure. The exact depth depends on your soil conditions, water depth, chosen material, and local building codes. Your marine contractor may dig even deeper to secure the wall in place and meet the structural specifications.

Plan on a quick visual check every season. Look for cracks, loose panels, or washed-out soil, clear weep holes so water can drain, and trim plants that push against the wall. Catching small issues early helps maintain the structure's soundness and prevents major repair bills later. Your sea wall builder can make recommendations for an ongoing maintenance plan that will help keep your sea wall in optimal condition.

Most residential sea walls are completed in an average of one to three weeks, covering preparation work, sheet piling, and cleanup. Larger commercial walls require additional engineering and can extend well beyond that window. Your crew drives steel or vinyl sheets into the soil, then finishes caps, tie-backs, and grading before final inspection.

The “best” wall is the one engineered for your site, but concrete often tops the list for pure strength and longevity. It anchors soil, blocks water, and handles repeated wave hits better than wood or light-gauge steel. Collaborate with a marine contractor to determine the ideal material for your shoreline and budget.
