"I called Mr. Electric about a breaker that kept tripping.  Although it was not a critical situation, they said they'd have someone there by 3:30 PM (it was about 2:55 PM).  Robert arrived at my door at 3:25 PM.  He was friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and professional.  He listened to my description of the problem and quickly noticed that the breaker switch was not working properly and that both that breaker and the one next to it (both double circuit breakers) were VERY hot.  Following his advice, I agreed that he should replace both breakers since he had the parts in the truck. He quickly replaced the breakers, taking care to align two of the circuits that power the two phases of my 220 V pool pump on adjacent switches which he ganged together with a carefully crafted piece of wire. He then checked the voltage on the two pool pump leads to ensure that they got the proper power and then checked that the pump was operating properly.  I also confirmed that the house circuit that was the original problem was now working properly (which it was).  While I was inside doing the check, he was doing a quick check outside and noticed that the power feed from the utility pole had been ripped out of the mount on the house and was hanging there courtesy of the anchor that
also secured the telephone line (not a good thing).  This had probably been the situation for some time, since it was three or four months ago that a tree limb had broken off and must have hit the line on the way down, pulling it out of its moorings. I had cleaned up the fallen branch, but did not notice the damage to the power feed.  It's lucky for me that Robert did.  I had him re-anchor the line to the house, which he did quickly.  He seemed to know just what to do, and that, or course, is why you hire a professional for these things.
All in all Robert finished up all the tasks in a few minutes more than an hour. I was able to pay by credit card which he processed from his cell phone using a plug in device from Square technology. Since I had an Angie's List coupon I got 10% off the bill plus he allowed an additional 10% since I am a Senior citizen.  Yes, I'm glad I don't often have to spend $250 in an hour, but I'm also glad that I called Mr. Electric.  Sometimes it is just worth it.

"We listed our house for sale. That was the point that everything started to break down. 1.5 year old house. One evening, I arrived in late to find out that an entire circuit was dead. It my sleep deprived state, I attempted to diagnose the problem, but to no avail. I was only to be in town for a few hours before moving along and figured that I would solve the problem in the morning. In the morning, no luck. Consulted with my realtor, who said to contact an electrician. I figured that now all of my plans would be messed up, since I had hoped to be back on the road within about 4 hours. I went to Angie's list, did some quick research, and called On-Time electric before purchasing their deal. They assured me that they could have someone out within an hour. While extremely skeptical, I went forward and purchased the deal and scheduled an ASAP visit. Sure enough, within about 45 minutes a gentleman showed up to tackle the problem. He came ready to work, but was also very respectful of the house. He wore booties to not track in any mess and thoroughly diagnosed the problem (poor wiring from the builder that shorted out a receptacle). He had it fixed in no time, and then offered to check the rest of the house while he was here for just a bit more. I gladly accepted and he quickly checked everything else to hopefully get ahead of any other further issues. Fortunately, everything came back fine. I was able to still meet my time schedule to get back on the road right when all of the laundry was done without missing a beat. What a thought was going to be a disaster was a wonderful experience and I cannot recommend On Time Electric enough."

"I received several estimates from multiple companies to do a full replace of my HVAC system as well as removal of old AC ducts and replace with all new for the entire house. Jon Wayne was the only company that actually looked at the ducting and provided me with information I needed in order to make a decision on whether to replace the ducts now or later. None of the other companies bothered to go this extra step even after I asked for an estimate for it. Although the estimate was only higher than other companies, I still felt comfortable with the work that had to be done and felt most comfortable with Jon Wayne as they explained the work in detail and how long it would take. I did not get this type of service and detail from other companies. The employees doing the actual work did an excellent and proficient job while working in a very tight attic space. The enormous amount of work was completed in 2 days just as advised and they did a complete cleanup of all the dusty residue from the old duct removal. Would recommend Jon Wayne to anyone needing full replace of HVAC."

"We live in South Austin. High winds broke a large tree and it fell on our 8-foot fence. The fence was pulled free from the corner post causing the fence to fall over and dislodge two of the metal posts. I had two other fence companies give bids for the repair. Neither proposal offered the services I requested. Both companies proposed more extensive work with bids from $1350 to $1500. Neither was willing to only replace the damaged posts like I asked, and they couldn’t get to a job “that small" for over three weeks. I called Mark Libby of The Fix It Man Repairs. Mark offered to come the following Wednesday to do a free estimate. I sent pictures of the damage and asked if he could give a “ball park” estimate from the pictures. I asked him to come on that day and fix the fence rather than to just make an estimate. He said he would arrive by 9 AM. He got to our house at 8:45, surveyed the damage, determined what materials would be required, and left to get materials. It turned out that ten-foot steel posts were not readily available at the home improvement stores. He called twice to assure me that he was still looking for posts and had not abandoned me. He returned about 12:30. I thought there was no way one person could finish the project by the end of the day, but I was wrong. He did an excellent job, removed all the scrap pieces, and was finished by 4:45 PM. Mark did the exact task that I had wanted and saved me a substantial amount of money. Mark does work outside of Cedar Park. I will not hesitate to call on him again for my maintenance, repair, and renovation projects. I heartily recommend him to anyone in need of a handyman. Mark knows how to fix it."

"Travis and his coworker were very friendly and professional.  We had a few hiccups because they didn't have a tall enough ladder for the install.  They went and rented a taller ladder and continued the install only to find out that the down rod that I had wasn't compatible with the new fan.  So the crew was at my house for most of the morning and wasn't able to complete the job.

I rescheduled for the following week and had the correct down rod on hand and they finished up the work.  The install ended up costing about twice as much as what I was hoping for but I have to take blame for most of that for not having the proper part.

All & all it was a good experience and I wouldn't hesitate to use TD Services again in the future.

FAQs for attic or whole house fan service projects in Austin, TX

Attic fans may not significantly lower your energy bill, as the electricity they use can offset savings from reduced cooling costs. However, they can reduce the strain on your air conditioner by removing hot air from the attic, potentially improving your home's overall energy efficiency. Additionally, attic fans help reduce humidity and protect your roof from extreme heat.

An attic fan can last up to 15 years under optimal conditions. Proper installation, regular maintenance, and environmental factors all influence its lifespan. Routine cleaning, lubricating moving parts, and professional inspections can help preserve your fan's efficiency. An attic fan installer near you will install one that works best in your climate.

Signs of a bad attic fan motor include a burning electrical smell coming from the exhaust vent or the fan not turning on. However, a non-functioning fan can also indicate other issues, such as a faulty thermostat, mechanical failure, or a bad electrical connection. Call a local professional to accurately diagnose the problem and suggest viable solutions.

It's not necessary to turn off your attic fan in the winter. Running the fan during the colder months of the year can help reduce attic moisture, prevent ice dams on the roof, and lower the risk of mold growth. If you choose to turn off your attic fan, ensure that attic vents remain open to allow proper airflow.
