"Getting a walk in tub is expensive no matter who you use. My experience thus far is with installation only and I must say my install went great. It has been over a month and no issues with my tub so I cannot comment on repair process with American Standard."

Customers say: True professional

"We used Stone Age Design to remodel the kitchen in our 1980's error condo. They did the entire demolition, tile work, electrical, plumbing, dry wall, lights, appliance installation and finishing and they were fantastic. The quality of the build is really top notch, and the level of detail was exacting. I can't imagine doing another renovation without Lou and his crew. I should also mention how professional they were. The crew was polite, helpful, kind, and understanding of any concerns or requests; we really loved them. Lou does things by the book, and won't cut corners, so don't be surprised if the occasional extra item shows up, particularly if you have an older home. But if you're looking for high quality and gorgeous work, look no further than Stone Age Design. We give them our highest recommendation."

"I had a good experience with Progressive Builders. My project with them consisted mainly of a wall removal to enlarge my family room, but also included flooring, painting, installing ceiling fans/lights, etc. The project was completed faster than anticipated and I was quite impressed with the efficiency of Eric's team. Eric was in constant contact with me via email and phone regarding any changes or adjustments that needed to be made. The cost of the project with Progressive Builders was less when compared to other companies, yet the quality of the finished product was excellent."

"We had Be Green Builders redesigned and build our kitchen, installed new counter tops, stainless steel appliances (that we had), paint and installed some home automation features. The people who did the actual work, the supervisor and the in-house designer were all very knowledge and experienced people. Nir who managed the actual work was a great person to deal with and he did a remarkable job. The office staff who were involved were also great and easy people to work with and they always were very responsive to our questions and concerns (via phone calls or emails). Our participation and involvement with the overall details made our new kitchen a success project and we are very happy with our decision to hire Be Green Builders. Highly recommended company."

"We had an excellent “remodeling” experience with Zohar! Zohar came over to discuss our kitchen and bathrooms remodeling project - he listened, was courteous, gave us many options, gave us an estimate and time frame for the entire work. We found him to be slightly on the pricier side, but we would hire them again in a heartbeat! Absolutely worth each and every penny! Zohar showed up on a regular basis to make sure all was on track and was available any time we had a question/concern. He walks with you through the whole project and is in constant communication. He then gives you a 3D version photo, with the tiles you select so you can see what your kitchen and bathrooms will look like before even starting - super cool. Zohar would also approve any purchases to ensure everything would fit properly (vanity, mirror, toilet, shower fixtures). Was very comforting to have someone available to assure that all your purchases would work out. Zohar’s team was great–they know their stuff — he knows what he’s doing! All the guys were very polite, respectful of my privacy, and cleaned up every day. The work finished on time, and we were so pleased that the project cost exactly what Zohar quoted. We look forward to working with them again on our next project!"

"I couldn't have handled everything required to dry out the wood and avoid any mold issues by myself at that time, let alone get all the Information required to the insurance company and negotiate with them. Because of Bryan I didnt have to. He took over and arranged everything. He recommended a company to do all work required to tear out the drywall, assess for asbestos, set up the fans in both units, and make sure they identified all the damage and got it dried out. He had the company partner call me and explain their process and why he was sending in one of his foremen....because his house was undergoing a more extensive repair at the time. Bryan interfaced setting up the timing so the repair went as smoothly and quickly as possible and, because of his relationship with the company they merely put a claim on the insurance monies when they arrived. Bryan even hired a packing company to send in a crew to pack up everything in my tenant's kitchen where most of the upstairs damage occurred and my living room and bathroom. The only unpleasant experience I had was American Craftsman, the moving company They packed everything without asking and put it God knows where. The woman who packed my bathroom told me she'd left everything from below my sink under the dining room table believing I would need access to it. When I looked I realized I had no idea where all my shower tools were or the stuff I use from my medicine cabinet. What she gave me access to was cleaning supplies! Then they didn't speak to my tenants, who were on sight, but merely packed up their kitchen and took it all with them to put in their storage. This included utensils, the microwave, the coffee maker and the toaster! The tenants were furious and refused to pay rent from then on. And when the walls and floors were dried out American Craftsman refused to return any stored items until their bill was paid! The most expensive payment of the entire clean up was USELESS. Their portion of the insurance proceeds was well over $7,000! The asbestos and dry out cost $1,500 less and actually did something for their money. By October I collected my insurance check for nearly $36,000. Then the fun began with getting everyone with a claim on the money to sign the check and find that Chase Mortgage seized the entire amount and would only give me 1/3 of the total when I satisfied them I was doing everything their way. So I paid $13,000 to the emergency services out of my pocket and the $5,400 to my private adjuster and when I asked Chase to reimburse me they said no. That's where the real fun begins so if you have a good relationship with anybody with power to threaten your mortgage company use them to get your money so you can hire a contractor to rebuild! Chase wants to see the proof of rebuilding BEFORE they release the money. Best part of my whole experience was Bryan and Goodroad and Gat.

"The senitments of other reviewers are spot on.  Gary is one of the nicest, most pleasant, flexible, hard working and understanding persons one can meet.  He provides detailed estimates, provides ideas and suggestions, and is accommodating to everyday things that pop up in typical remodeling situations.  While he didn't install the new wood flooring, he helped with finding solution for multiple layers of existing flooring (laminate, carpeting and hard wood).  He suggested sizing of tiles, shared designs and photos of other work to provide ideas for tile work in baths and kitchen.  He includes all builiding materials in his estimate, which are consistently reasonable, and leaves the choice of finishing materials to the home owner (the homeowner should identify things like molding preferences).  As an example, a drainage situation was identified in the backyard and remodeling project added a slight detour to add rain gutter in preparation for some storms forecasted.  On the day of the storm, Gary took time to dig a trench to help with the drainage problem.  He then provided ideas on a long term solution.  While the projects didn't complete as initially scheduled, it was entirely the result of add on work throughout.  Again Gary demonstrated his flexibility to accommodate changes in direction and add on work.
There should be more service providers like Gary in the general construction service industry of this kind.  What else can be said besides the above except that as additional work is identified for the house, Gary will be engaged to perform the work.

FAQs for walk in tub installation and replacement projects in Avalon, CA

Because Medicare classifies walk-in tubs as non-durable medical equipment, it generally won’t pick up the tab. Medicaid can help if a doctor certifies that the tub is medically necessary, but rules change by state. Call your plan early, ask which forms you need, and keep any prescriptions or letters on file to improve your odds of reimbursement.

A walk-in bathtub’s fill and drain times hinge on your home’s water pressure and the tub’s hardware. Most models with a fast-fill faucet need about six to eight minutes to fill and two to three minutes to drain; larger basins or standard drains can tack on an extra 10 minutes. Stay seated until the water is completely gone so you don’t swing the door open on a full tub’s worth of water.

A walk-in bathtub holds 50 gallons of water, and its design supports capacities that range from 40 to 80 gallons, depending on the product. In contrast, a standard bathtub holds 25 to 45 gallons. This capacity is determined by the fixed design of the tub and its construction materials. Homeowners should review the detailed product specifications to confirm the exact volume available for use during bath time.

Walk-in tubs are tax-deductible when the purchase qualifies as a necessary medical expense and meets the IRS criteria. Caregivers who install a walk-in tub also qualify for the Dependent Care Tax Credit under specific conditions. Homeowners must verify these requirements with the IRS and consult a tax professional, as state and program guidelines enforce strict documentation standards for such deductions.
