"The Groundworks folks (formerly Bay Area Underpinning) applied their foundation-underpinning technology and expertise to extend to bedrock, level, square up the foundation for an extensive house remodel. I was most impressed by the young man onsite supervisor, Josh who answered all my work done, how and why questions. I wish this info was provided up front by the estimator. (My design-build remodel contractor referred this company)."

"Never in 20 years, living in this house, have I ever had a plumber travel from Monterey, CA, to do plumbing work on a house in Gonzales, CA. I was amazed that any plumber would come to Gonzales, CA, after 20 years of repeated negative experiences. Repaired the kitchen sink faucet. Replaced two (2) outdoor faucets. Recycled the water conditioner. Serviced the heating furnace. All work completed in a most excellent fashion. The plumber was very pleasant to work with. He was terrific."

"US Trench less was referred to me through a friend. I called US Trench less and explained the situation I had in my backyard. US Trench less came out the next day and ran the diagnostic TV scope where we were able to see how bad of shape my pipes were in. US Trench less was able to come out and start working the very next day. The entire job was done in less than 4 days which was amazing considering how quickly they began working. US Trench less was honest, very trustworthy, knowledgeable, and prompt with my situation. I would highly recommend their work!"

"Freddy was excellent to deal with. Professional, proud of his workmanship, and strives to satisfy the customer. His estimate was actually less than I had from other plumbers but I was most impressed with was the quality of his work. He at first planned to replace the line using the trench-less technique but after finding the soil soft from the rains, decided to do minimum digging and punching through a hard copper line. He also placed a sleeve on the copper pipe to protect it from corrosion and extend the use life. His crew was great and protected our foliage from damage. He installed it up to code with a 6 ft grounding rod. An estimate from another plumber told me I had to get an electrician to install the ground. It passed city inspection first round and after he filled in the trench and completed the cleanup our front yard and foliage looked just as good as before the job. I do a lot of my own home repair but I could not have done a better job. Highly recommend you call him for an estimate."

"I have used About Green twice in the past 3 years. Our backyard has a lot of trees and very tall tree-type hedges. Since it was a major part of the reason we bought the home, we want to maintain the health of the landscaping back there. Vince and his team scaled and thinned/trimmed a couple very tall redwood trees, removed an unhealthy leaning tree and trimmed/maintained many other trees on our property. Vince is a pleasure to work with and very friendly. He is extremely knowledgeable in all of the trees that we have and suggests what service to do on each type of tree based on his knowledge of each. He explains it very clearly to us who don't know much about the subject. His work is quality and his goal is 100% customer satisfaction. On this last visit, they spent a few hours trimming a tree-type hedge and when I came home from work, I wanted it around 3 feet lower. Even though it meant repeating the work for a few hours, Vince did it without any argument. To me, that was a true test of customer satisfaction. They complete the work in a timely manner, over a 2 day period. They cleaned up the yard like new and disposed of a ton of trimmings (never seen so much in my life). I never even consider another tree service besides About Green. I plan to have him come out after summer to suggest some landscaping ideas as I haven't used him for that before.."

"Called Rob of The Drain King late evening due to tenant complaining his unit was flooded due to sewer backup again (3rd time).  I had just paid another plumber $1,100 to clear line, camera sewer line and install anti-backup device to prevent.  Obviously it didn't work!

Rob cleared the drain and made sure sewers were working on very short notice (and without additional emergency fee).  He even came back the next day to camera the sewer line to try to see what caused the problem.  He informed me that the 100yr old terra cotta sewer pipes had loose joints and evasive tree roots.  I did not believe him because the sewer line runs under concrete driveway with no trees nearby at all and because last plumber also used camera to scope out line and said no problem.  He setup another appointment to show me the camera and mapped out my entire underground sewer system.  He said anti-siphon device installed by other plumber was too far forward and would not provide any relief to the basement unit which has been flooding regularly.  He highly recommended replacement of a section of sewer line.  His bid was very competitive and despite additional work, he never tried to up sell me or find additional work.  After trenching about 40 feet of concrete, he uncovered two large tree roots 36' long a 6 inch diameter right exactly where he said backup was occurring!!

He replaced main sewer line. Rerouted all drains going to basement unit and installed a antibackup device and even redid  some of the old copper piping that was incorrectly installed in concrete.  He also trenched larger area at my request so I could run electrical conduit and he ran additional copper supply lines and drain lines for future laundry room.

He and his crew completed all work quickly and professionally.

I would highly recommend him from drain cleaning to major repair job."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Ben Lomond, CA

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
