"We used Radon Abatement Services for our basement. The radon levels were slightly over the EPA recommended limit. We mitigated the radon as part of a larger basement renovation. Radon Abatement Services worked with our General Contractor and did a great job. Radon levels are vastly reduced now as a result of their work."

"<p>I think I found them on Angie's List. They have been fantastic during our home renovation process. I keep putting them on hold, but I have built a relationship with them and they have been so patient and good throughout the whole thing. They have come out multiple times to help me with our previous contractor and current contractor for the remodeling. They have been great. They came out, met with my new contractor and it cost me nothing. They have been in constant contact with me regarding the status. They prepared for the states when I asked them to be ready to do the asbestos abatement. That was a part of the first stage of my remodeling project. Their pricing has been very reasonable. They did an assessment not just of the cost for the work, which they revised based on what the insurance company had told them to change. They have engaged with the insurance company, they have engaged with my remodelers and have come out without even charging us. The work that we have paid them for was just one time testing. This was the second test versus the first test we had. They do asbestos testing and asbestos removal.    </p>"

"I called Rodolfo on a Friday because my radon mitigation system (installed by a different company) was in need of repair. He was able to come by the next day, on Saturday morning, and quickly identified the problem and was able to fix it."

"Robert was extremely thorough, knowledgable, kind, and helpful! He inspected my soon-to-be house above Maryland state code, testing every outlet and window in every room, identifying and finding tons of things I had not noticed myself. As part of the process, Robert took pictures of every part of the home he noticed with imperfections, and marked them with red taped dots. The same day he did the home inspection, Robert then used the pictures he'd taken and sent me a multi-page, super detailed report walking me through everything we'd learned about the house, and literally showing me what he was talking about in each picture by putting in and referencing pictures. He spent several hours doing the inspection because it's a large property with multiple floors and buildings on it, and was indispensable with the advice and knowledge he shared with me. He taught me how to replace my furnace filter, showed me how to extend my gutter system to get drainage further from my foundation, and even showed me how to use the new gas stove and taught me about what a convection oven does and how to paint my living room walls. Robert's above and beyond thorough and helpful, and will more than go the extra mile to make sure your home is perfect for me. I plan to keep coming back to him for future recommendations on both contractors for my new home he trusts, and advice on living in an older home. Since the super quick turnaround (same day!) for his report on my home, he also took the time to send me a ton of info following up on what he was teaching me about painting my own place to save money. You won't find a better guy!"

"I am delighted with the service that I received from HomeKey. They are the most thorough of any inspection services that I’ve ever had. They found a small gas leak in the furnace that even the plumber had trouble locating when he knew what to look for. I saved much more on my purchase from negotiating from a position of strength than the cost of their inspections, not to mention the peace of mind."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"I called several home inspectors in the area to get quotes and to see <br /> who was the most qualified to inspect a potential property that my <br /> husband and I are thinking about purchasing. I spoke directly to Alan <br /> and he was filled with informational advice. He not only explained what <br /> he included in the home inspection but he also explained what each <br /> process was and why it was done. He is very accommodating as far as <br /> scheduling appointments. Upon our inspection we were extremely pleased <br /> with the amount of time he took to look over EVERYTHING and explain <br /> EVERYTHING during the process and after the process. He is very friendly <br /> and patient with any questions you may have. We received our report <br /> within 24 hours and it was VERY detailed and explanatory to what he <br /> found. This report also included pictures, links and suggestions for <br /> problematic areas. I have already recommended to a friend and will <br /> continue to do so. We will be using Alan again in the future if we do <br /> not purchase this property. Thank you again! <br />"

"Jiri was very thorough and informative during our inspection of our new home purchase.  He answered all of our questions and spent time explaining the different priority issues as well as tips for future maintenance.  Within a few hours of the inspection, we received our report including an explanation of the observations as well as corresponding pictures."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Boyce, VA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
