"Allied Outdoor Solutions installed a paver patio for us. It is awesome and they were awesome. I’m not sure if we got lucky or if all their crews are as good as ours was. Carlos, Jeremy and Javier nailed it. They worked very hard, paid attention to detail and were super nice and polite. Also, during the COVID-19 stay-at-home order, Carlos proactively communicated with us regarding delays and rescheduling, reassuring us that we would be a priority as soon as they were able to work on site again (and kept his word during a challenging time). We would definitely go with Allied Outdoor Solutions again! Lester & Merryl Carson Fort Worth, TX"

"Found Budget Landscaping on Angie's List and went to the company's website. Submitted electronic contact form and within hours Jeff, the owner, contacted me. He was very professional and was even willing to come out the next day (which was a Saturday no less) to provide a quote. He thoroughly explained what work was necessary and even provided some suggestions - like placing river rock with flagstone steps (easier on bare feet) around the pool equipment pad so that no mowing is required. When it was time to start work, his crew showed up in the morning and had completed all of the work by late afternoon. During the entire process he provided frequent updates. A complete pleasure to work with! <br /> Total services: installation of 3 pallets of sod with proper ground preparation; edging with ~4 wheelbarrows of river rock around pool equipment pad; extended pool overflow drain (approx 30' run) <br />"

"We asked Kirsch Landscaping to look at our yard and provide ideas. Originally, we were prepared to extend our patio all the way out and create a large seating/entertaining area under the trees. Ken came out and patiently listened to our desires of wanting to create a backyard retreat that was livable, LOW maintenance and wasn't going to cost an arm/leg or at least not require replanting again and again. I think he must have spent at least 60-90 minutes just talking with us, getting to know us and how we wanted to use the yard. About half-way through our conversation, Ken suggested using turf grass, I originally balked. (Thoughts of putt putt greens and cheesy looks came to mind.) My husband thought it might be a good option and was definitely going to be less expensive than our original idea...so I agreed to at least go walk on the product at their shop. Stepping onto the grass with bare feet was a real treat and when Ken shared how easy the maintenance would be, I decided to go ahead and try. Kirsch Landscaping put in a French drainage system, put in the turf and then helped build up existing beds with moss rocks to create our backyard retreat. I was impressed with the aesthetics from the start. Three days later the yard was given a test and I experienced just how impressive this product is! The workers left two days before I had a backyard party planned for a large group of kids. Of course I had planned outside activities! However, the morning of the party, it poured rain and I was sure I would have to make alternate plans for the kids. But I was wrong! The rain stopped at 2 pm. At 5:30pm when the children arrived...they were able to play every game we had planned without any mess, mud or wet grass! The drainage system was amazing. The yard is now three years old. It has held up in all kinds of weather, handled the hard play of dogs, kids and grandkids. However, perhaps the greatest test to the drainage system and how well the yard holds up was last August when our community got hit by Hurricane Harvey. On August 28th -- we had almost 14 inches of rain dumped on us in one day. Without the backyard and the drainage system that Kirsch had installed, we would have had a full blown lake as many of our neighbors did. While we were in the worst of the storm, our yard was able to take on massive amounts of water and recover within 20-30 minutes. Thank you Kirsch!"

"First, Bret is smart, organized, knowledgeable. Quotes were reasonable. Work was started ahead of schedule. His crew was outstanding. Had an early bump in the road when they hit a water line (I don't put much blame on them for that, the pool company put it less than 5in from surface and Bret owned the error. The landscaping was great. Two significant issues arose after the work was completed. The first was that the drainage they put in wasn't draining. The first time, Bret was great, came back out, dug it up, cleaned the rocks etc. Then after the next rain, same problem. Second return was a bit more delayed. After a couple call backs the responsiveness dropped. Initially this was explained as a staffing problem. On the last trip, a response was promised within a day by the guy he sent out. No response. At that point, my yard was flooding at every rain. I finally hired another company, had all the drains dug back up. The problem appeared to not only be dirt getting into the lines but also that at a critical juncture right before they tied into existing drains, the lines starting going uphill. I don't doubt Bret when he explained that he had done this hundreds of time and this was the first yard it didn't work (in reference to the dirt in the lines). He's an honest guy and his guys work hard. But in this case, it failed and cost me more time, money, and enjoyment in the new yard. The going uphill part is harder to justify. Cost me another $7000 for the second company to dig out the drains and redo them and redo the sod/landscaping that didn't survive the flood. The second issue is really a warning to folks who have dogs who tend to eat things in the yard. I specifically asked that no plants toxic to dogs be used. Yet lantana was put in. While it won't kill an animal, it can and does induce seizure among other issues - which I found out after the dog ate it. So I would recommend anyone who shares such concerns be much more specific about requesting details related to all of the specific plants and double checking the plants with the aspca list before having them installed. So my review is very mixed. Smart guy, great crew, skilled at landscape design but the drainage for me was a fail."

"The two masons completed all the cracks and secured the two walls, even adding a little mortar in a few places not on the estimate. The work is professional..... You would never know there had been any cracks. Mortar matches perfectly. Reasonable rates. A house is a expensive asset, every one can immediately see a DIY repair (never matches) - Call the professional masons, you'll be glad you did."

"Lorenzo, the owner did our job personally, and we were very pleased with the outcome. He explained every step as he completed the process, and even recommended products that we could use to maintain the new finish. Will use again, as we have a lot of natural stone flooring in our home!"

"We needed some large stones to create a rockscape in our front yard. Chip was so helpful! He showed us a variety of rocks that we were able to use to create the perfect rockscape. We painted Mexican beach pebbles and turned them into flowers. Then we arranged Arizona flagstones to make a dragonfly. We'll definitely shop here in the future. Huge selection of rocks. Great customer service!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Brazoria, TX

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
