"Robert & his team were fantastic installing a new driveway, crush/run then #57 gravel for our future homesite. Hard workers & completed the project in a few hours as they had stated. Great price but the best is this driveway will be around for a long time, it was installed with care, precision & will last with an incredible amount of material they put down, very very happy! Thank you! A+. I will be calling again once the house is built. 👍 "

"Kevin was great to work with. His crew that was assigned to do our patio arrived promptly each day and were the nicest guys to work with. They cleaned up each day and made certain the property was left in good condition. We are pleased with the patio installation and would highly recommend them. They will be back in the fall to do some additional work for us as we will use them for all our landscaping needs moving forward."

"I was very pleased with the work Bill and his crew did. All were very pleasant and professional. They were able to do a final cleanup from over the winter, removing all sticks and leaves. Following that They weeded, raked, installed edging, applied and spread mulch. Did a final cleanup of the mulch, driveway and walk areas before leaving. Very happy with the job they did. I would recommend this company and I would hire them again."

"Juan, his son and the rest of the crew did a great job in repairing and installing a16 foot second wall with column to my patio. They also had to remove half of the pavers to re-level the patio and added pavers to fill-in the 3 feet of bed between the house and the patio on the left side of the steps. They were punctual and very professional. They laid down 4x8 plywood from my front driveway around the back of my house for heavier equipment to protect my grass. My wife and I could not be more pleased with the job that they did and plan to have them back next spring to add some lights to the other wall and columns as we really like the one's that they installed on the new wall."

"Great experience! Priced products against concrete top from other provider then decided to go with Ancient Art Stone. A very easy measure and a quick response for the bid. Once I decided to go- the install was quick and perfect. The guys worked clean and did the little extra things that I didn't think of- the backsplash, the edges, the overhangs and the sink. They made it one of the easiest parts of my remodel. I should have used them for my tile and granite in the bathrooms. They have great people, communications, good price (that did not get changed or increased) and worked in the time frame that we set- wish they were my contractor!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Bridgeville, DE

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
