"Can't say enough about Jim Ruffin and his crew. They did a superb job on remodeling our basement, and they were the most recent after quoting several sources. We'll definitely hire them again."

I’ve been in the construction industry for well over 10 years I’ve mastered in different trades and as of right now I’ve been building high end pole barns and barndominiums. I’m located around northern Colorado and more south I also travel to Cheyenne Wyoming. \n\nI specialize in structural framing, laminate flooring, tile, drywall, pole barns. \n\nI treat my jobs like if I was building it for me. I pay attention to details on the projects I do.

"The workmanship was exceptional. The project took longer than expected, probably due to supply chain issues. Brett is very knowledgeable about what needs to be done and how to do it correctly. His various teams of workers did a fantastic job! I would definitely hire Brett again for other remodel projects."

"Bobby is a true building professional, as are his subcontractors. They take tremendous pride in their work, and it shows in what they do. From my initial contact with Bobby in February 2012 through the contract signing in late June, Bobby consistently provided timely information and estimates for the work, and suggested practical improvements to the design. When the basement finish work commenced in early August 2012, Bobby was there to complete the rough framing. Bobby then coordinated the work of his electrical, plumbing, window, and drywall subcontractors who all did excellent work, not only on the basement, but on other items elsewhere in the house that I'd discussed with Bobby. Bobby handled the insulation himself. With the drywall complete, Bobby completed the painting, doors, and trim finish and carpentry. Bobby coordinated his electrical, flooring, carpet, and plumbing contractors for their finish work, and finished off the phone line connections for his electricians. Bobby completed some aspects of the work while we were on vacation. <br /> With respect to the radon system and fireplace, Bobby completed the radon system himself. Test results indicated radon levels in the house were successfully reduced from about 15 pCi/L to 1.3 pCi/L. Bobby worked with Western Fireplace on the fireplace roughin, completed the framing himself, coordinated the plumbing, electrical, and drywall subcontractors, and finished the painting, mantle and granite installations. The fireplace is now one of our favorite pieces of the home. Bobby also installed our new flat screen HD TV above the fireplace at no extra charge. <br /> Along the way, we talked with Bobby about a lot of details and items, and he consistently sought direction and input as needed to finish the job. We had never been involved in a construction project of this magnitude or type. Bobby was very patient with us, explained everything to us as well as he could, and we learned a lot. The most important thing we learned was the value of having a highly qualified, trustworthy professional whose eye for detail is equal to our own. Bobby is a credit to the building profession. <br />"

"The workers were very professional and knew what they were doing. One of the workers was a master woodworker and did a lovely job of trimming out the french doors.  They were versatile and knowledgable. <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Briggsdale, CO

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
