"FBT did a complete renovation on my master bathroom several years ago, and my review for that job was posted here on Angie's List on 12/7/2014. It is still available if you'd like to read it. After that experience, I had no hesitation to hire FBT again when I needed some work done in my kitchen. I have granite countertops and when they were first installed, a standard 4 inch granite backsplash was used. I wanted to replace the original backplash with marble tile from the surface of the countertop to the bottom edge of my upper cabinets. The only problem was that the original backplash was also installed on the side of the cabinet that holds my refrigerator and also the one that holds my pantry pull outs. I I did not want the tile to be installed on the sides of these cabinets - only on the drywall at the back edge of the countertop. It was quite apparent that the sides of these cabinets were going to be damaged when the old granite was pulled off and I didn't want to buy a new pantry or fridge cabinet - they are super expensive! FBT had a great, cost-effective solution: they ordered a matching skin from the original cabinet fabricator and installed that over the entire side surfaces of the pantry and fridge cabinets, after the old backsplash was removed. They added a bit of trim and when they were done, you would never know that the cabinets had been altered it in any way. Plus, my backsplash looks great! They also replaced all of the toe-kicks on the cabinets and you can't tell that they aren't original. I have attached before and after photos of one side of the room for reference. As always, every single person from FBT who came to my house was extremely professional and highly skilled. I have recommended them to everyone I know over the last few years, and I have several friends who have hired them, with always the same exact experience that I have had with both of the projects FBT has completed for me. I am looking forward to my next one already!"

"Mairtin came to my house promptly after I called for an estimate on the work. I was given a date he was available and he arrived on schedule and on time. The work performed was exceptionally done and even provided additional work that I had not previously ask for. It looks better than the original brickwork! Highly recommended!"

"I had several places where drywall or plaster had to be patched. The handyman arrived on time and was very thorough. He was also pleasant to talk to. My only complaint was the price - it seemed high for this type of work."

"The Chimney Doctor team did a great job for us and are highly recommended. I secured several estimates for the work (plus some parging work I elected not to do) and they were either middle or low on both. Austin did the estimate, made some excellent recommendations for a solution, and came back to do the final installation. He brought a helper but did most of the work himself, finishing and cleaning up in under 90 minutes. Austin is a real asset to the company -- he's knowledgeable, professional, works quickly, cleans up thoroughly and uses care with the client property, and delivers great value in service. We won't hesitate to use Chimney Doctor again."

"Lewis and his crew did a fabulous job from start to finish. I have had horrible experiences with contractors in the past, overcharging for terrible work and making the situation worse, but Lewis was honest and reliable. He responded quickly to my call even during the busy season. He gave me an honest and fair estimate, and then continued to answer tons of questions that I had over the following months while I was getting other quotes and trying to make a decision. Lewis was patient and responsive, and after many months I decided to take the plunge. Lewis did everything above-board, getting the permits and approval from the historic district. His crew worked diligently through snow and freezing temperatures to completely replace my leaking roof and did a superb job paying attention to every tiny detail. Lewis communicated with me daily about everything they were doing. I have never had a contractor be so accommodating and communicative. I was so impressed with his crew that I ended up adding on more extras to the job and had him repair and refinish a roof on a second property I own. My roof looks spectacular now - much better than the old slate I had to replace. It was a complicated job which involved the replacement of a lot of rotten wood, old insulation, mansard roof sides and a flat roof with multiple old skylights. I would recommend him without any reservations to any of my friends and will use him for any roofing issue I ever have in the future."

"Flawless transaction from start to finish! Had been searching for granite or quartz tops for two vanities during the complete remodel of the master bathroom. Had a reasonable quote from Home Depot due to a sale that was going on. At the last minute I found Discover Granite & Marble, saw that the company had good reviews, so thought I would make the 40 minute drive from Woodbridge to check them out. So glad I did! I met Joseph and he took one look at my floor and cabinet samples and knew exactly what would work. He took me into the warehouse where the slabs were to show me three slabs of granite he thought would work. The first one he showed me was spot on and the price was less than the quartz from HD. Before install, the entire staff was always very accomodating during my numerous visits whether to ensure what I had selected was the right choice, bringing in wall paint samples or the final slab selection prior to cutting. The staff was always on time during the measurment visit and the install. In our case, it was discovered the night before that the finished granite did not have the right edge. A staff member called to confirm what the edge should be and the granite was delivered when expected with the right edge. Can't say enough good things about Discover Granite & Marble and would definitly use them again."

"I can't say enough positive things about Gene, his crew, and the work that they did on our bathroom. I'll break it down: <br /> 1) First and foremost, these guys are true craftsmen. They paid attention not only to the big picture, but also to the tiniest details that in the end really made a difference ... things like padding the dimensions of the shower niches so that they didn't result in any strange tile cuts, adjusting the width of the door molding so there wasn't an awkward space between it and the perpendicular wall, and making sure that the row of accent tile didn't run into the electrical outlet. <br /> 2) Gene is very knowledgeable about his work and does a good job explaining the work that they're doing. For example, when an old pipe leading to the radiator cracked, he showed me where the crack was, explained how it happened and why it was an issue, and then outlined several different courses of action we could now take to fix it. <br /> 3) Gene took time to understand the look and feel I wanted in our new bathroom and had a lot of great suggestions on how to achieve it. For example, he suggested adding a black pencil tile accent to the subway tiled walls, gave great advice on a good finish for the newly-stripped radiator, and also suggested replacing our old wooden threshold with a new black stone threshold. <br /> 4) They truly value a nice end product over their own convenience. On a couple of occasions they redid work because it wasn't meeting expectations. And this was without my having to ask them! They took time to raise the height of the over-sink light so that the mirror could sit above the line of the half-wall of tile. Also, they took down an entire wall of complete tile in the shower and realigned the board behind it so that the tile would be a consistent length at the corners of the room. <br /> 5) They took the time to repair minor inadvertent damage the work created in other rooms, again, without my having to make them do it. For example, when they removed a few of the wall studs from the bathroom, the nails that they pulled out broke the plaster on the other side of the wall in the bedroom. Not only did Gene and his crew patch and prime the breaks, but they also filled in a few holes that were left over from some other work that had just been done on the house. <br /> 6) Gene and his crew were very respectful of our home while working here. Every morning tarps and protective boards were put down to protect the floors in the rest of the house and keep our home clean while they were working and every evening they were removed before we got home. Other than the work being completed on the bathroom, you would never know they were here. <br /> All in all, they went above and beyond in their work and, while we are very happy with our new bathroom, we're kind of sad that we won't see they guys every morning at our house! <br />"

"J&G did an amazing job overall, and our yard looks beautiful. Their design is artistic, but they also excel at addressing technical issues such as proper drainage. The contractors cleaned up every single day, and also repaired areas where they had damaged the existing lawn. We highly recommend them."

FAQs for brick or stone siding: install or completely replace projects in Broomes-island, MD

Brick siding offers numerous advantages, including high durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions, requiring minimal maintenance and lasting for generations. It provides natural insulation, enhancing energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures year-round. Brick is fire-resistant, improving home safety, and reduces external noise for a quieter indoor environment. Its timeless aesthetic appeal boosts curb appeal and can increase your home's resale value.

Yes, you can add brick to an existing house. One option is to remove the current siding and install full brick masonry, which involves laying traditional bricks with mortar for a solid brick exterior. Alternatively, you can opt for brick veneer siding, a thinner layer of real or manufactured brick applied over the existing structure. Brick veneer is typically more affordable and easier to install while still providing the aesthetic benefits of brick. Both methods can enhance your home's appearance and value.

Yes, installing brick siding often provides a significant return on investment. With an average ROI of around 77%, and some returns exceeding 80%, brick siding enhances curb appeal, energy efficiency, and longevity, making your home more attractive to potential buyers and potentially increasing resale value.

Brick siding is known for its exceptional longevity, often lasting over 100 years when properly maintained. Regular maintenance, like repointing mortar joints, ensures its durability over time. Brick veneer, while thinner than full brick masonry, is durable and can last up to 50 years or more with proper care. Both options offer long-lasting protection and value for your home.

When choosing brick siding, consider your budget, as costs can vary depending on brick type and installation method. Also, consider your desired aesthetic; different bricks offer various colors, textures, and styles to complement your home's architecture. Installation time and complexity are factors, with options like brick veneer being quicker and less labor-intensive than full brick masonry. Additionally, assess the maintenance requirements and durability to select the best option for your long-term needs.

Alternatives to brick siding include vinyl siding, which is cost-effective and low-maintenance and offers a variety of colors and styles. Wood siding provides a natural, classic look but requires more upkeep to prevent weather damage. Fiber cement siding is durable and can mimic the appearance of wood or masonry without the high maintenance. Each alternative has its own advantages, so consider factors like budget, aesthetics, and maintenance when making your choice.
