"Highly recommend using Discount Fence! Roy was amazing- he is very professional and gave us some great advise. We wanted a fence that would keep our dog in the yard while still allowing us to watch the deer. Installation took one day, and Roy's team left no mess. Beyond happy with the quality and aesthetic of this fence!"

Customers say: Quality work

"Outstanding work!  These are very courteous and hard-working guys.  They replaced approximately 10 fence pickets and reattached many more.  They also replaced one 2 x 4 cross member and adjusted my two gates.  These gates are 14 years old.  Before the repair work, they didn't close well.  They dragged on the ground and were difficult to latch.  After the repairs, the gates worked like new!  I am completely happy with the work performed and I will certainly use this company again in the future.

"Bottom line is that I think we ended up with a good fence and the pricing was fair. Communication was lacking and there was some inattention to detail that I ended up addressing myself. I believe that DBC is capable of quality work but dealing with them can be time consuming due to poor communication and follow-up. You'll need to have a lot of patience and be sure to carefully inspect your fence before the crew leaves your property. I have more fencing work to be done in the near future and I'm undecided whether to use them again. The whole reason for hiring fencing contractors was because I just don't have time to do the work myself. In the end we are happy with the fence they built but it would have been nice if things had gone smoother with scheduling and keeping us in the loop.
The good:
DBC Fence replaced the fencing along the front of our home. The existing cedar picket fence was falling apart due to age and storm damage. Two new gates were built and wooden posts were replaced with steel posts. The quoted price was fair and competitive with other quotes we received, particularly considering the gates. The demolition and rebuild was done quickly once the crew was onsite. The crew was polite, answered questions, and did a decent job of keeping the working area clean and free of debris. It looked like they dug post holes nice and deep and mixed concrete onsite using a generous amount. The materials appeared to be good quality, the fence looked great when they were done and the gates opened smoothly.
The not so good:
Communication wasn't the greatest with this company. While someone arrived in a timely manner to do measurements the actual written quote took over a week to arrive due to "computer problems." That wasn't a huge deal since it wasn't an emergency but it turned out to be indicative of future communication. There were some delays in getting our project started due to weather, no fault of DBC. On the day our job was supposed to start, we weren't given an estimated arrival time and my wife waited around the house all day until the crew finally arrived near the end of the day. On the first day new posts were set and the crew said they would be back on Saturday to finish. I didn't expect anyone to work over the weekend but that was their call. For some reason they stacked all the old fence panels by the street in front of our house before leaving. No idea why they didn't do the haul away but I figured no big deal if they were coming back the next day. We waited until late afternoon Saturday and called to check in. We were told that the crew would return Sunday instead. Odd, but OK. So we waited around the house Sunday and that didn't happen either. The crew ultimately didn't return until late Monday and the old fence debris was on our front lawn the whole weekend and most of Monday. Monday evening the fence was complete and looked OK on initial inspection. The next weekend I went to water seal the fence and and noticed a couple of things that bothered me. First, the pickets were secured to 3 cross beams and the middle of the pickets were nailed with a single nail while the top and bottom received the usual two nails. I don't know if this is a big deal but it seemed odd. Conserving nails? Second, I noticed that there appeared to be quite a few lag screws missing on the brackets that secured the cross beams to the metal posts. There  are two holes for screws on the brackets and about half the holes only a single screw was used. The use of one vs two screws was kind of haphazard. Again, I don't know it this is a big deal but it seemed sloppy. I emailed DBC initially and didn't get a response after about a week. I called and left a voice mail and didn't get a response after a few days. I called again and got a hold of Steve the owner. He apologized and said he'd come back out that Friday and take a look. Friday came and went and nobody came out. I called and left another message. I got a call back from Rachel a few days later saying that the guys would come out that morning. Nope, nobody came out. I decided it was going to be easier to just address it myself. It only took about 15 minutes and I used about 40 screws. Not a huge deal and maybe it doesn't affect structural integrity of the fence - I don't know. It seemed like we got blown off on this issue. Considering that DBC knew we were planning on doing more fence work (they quoted for the additional work to be done later in the year) I'm puzzled by this. I'm left not certain I'd hire them to do the next fence section.

FAQs for barbed wire fence installation projects in Burnet, TX

Barbed wire is a type of fencing made from steel wire with sharp edges or points spaced along the strands. It's designed to prevent unauthorized entry or contain livestock by acting as a physical deterrent. Barbed wire fences are often seen in agricultural settings or high-security areas because they're effective, durable, and require little maintenance.

You can expect to pay between $3 and $6 per linear foot for a barbed wire fence, including installation. The exact price depends on factors like material quality, number of strands, wire thickness, and labor costs. If you have a larger project, bulk purchasing and hiring a professional might offer cost savings.

The number of strands you need depends on the fence's purpose and the level of security you want. For a standard livestock fence, you might use three to five strands. For higher-security needs, you may require more strands to meet your needs. Consider your specific requirements and talk to your fence installation pro to determine the appropriate number.

Barbed wire fencing regulations vary by location. In many residential areas, the use of barbed wire is restricted or prohibited due to safety concerns. Before installing a barbed wire fence, work with your barbed wire fence installation pro to check local zoning laws and homeowner association rules to ensure compliance with regulations.

The lifespan of a barbed wire fence depends on the quality of materials and environmental conditions. Fences made with high-quality, galvanized wire and proper coatings can last between 20 and 30 years. Regular maintenance and inspections can extend the fence's longevity by addressing issues like rust or damaged strands promptly.
