"This is a family company that does good work. I had used them two years ago for a backed up sewer line so I used them again this time. I am still pleased with their service."

"Young Septic was so great in the middle of a serious septic ordeal. Randy was very clear and thorough about what the problem was, and was incredibly easy to work with the whole time. It took two days for a total septic system rebuild, and throughout the process they were there to answer any questions and explain anything we had questions with. They even let my excavator-obsessed daughter ask them a million questions. I’ll be sticking with them for maintenance for sure."

"This is a great company. Artie and Nick were right on time, provided high quality work. They were very professional and saved me thousands of dollars! My home warranty company in house plumbers had told me my main line sewer line had to be replaced (to deny a home repair a camera diagnostic). Replacing the main sewer line would have cost somewhere between $6,500 - $10,000. Artie and I met and reviewed my options. He recommended I go ahead and complete a camera diagnostic and simultaneously have anything in the line descaled. Their descaling machine has a camera attached to it. This process cost $750, but was far less expensive and time consuming than replacing a main sewer line. The end result, verified by camera, a clean sewer line! Thank you so very much BFMD for a job well done! Mary Ann"

"John replaced our sewer line in the fall of 2013. What struck us about John when we first met him was his honesty. He treats his customers like he wants to be treated when someone works on his home. He doesn't overcharge or offer things that aren't needed. There are no hidden costs. He will go out of his way to make sure he helps people, agreeing to do our job in Virginia even though he usually only worked in Maryland at that time (he is licensed in both states). We felt his quote was fair and reasonable and he answered all of our questions in detail. Having a sewer line replaced can be a bit traumatic, just in terms of the destruction it causes in the yard. But John's work was excellent. He used up-to-code materials and when our water line broke in the process, he handled that emergency with grace and did not charge us extra. We thought the guy who did the back hoe work could have made our yard a bit more level when putting the dirt back, but we've had landscaping work done since then, and everything looks good now. That is something you'll want to plan for though in terms of cost. You'll definitely need to put in grass seed or sod, and maybe some creative bushes, flowers, etc. like we did. For our next plumbing job, we will definitely hire John again. He is an all-around great guy, very knowledgeable and we trust him with our home. We've also recommended him to a family member in Olney.

"Robert Boccia, the owner of the company, came to my rescue within about an hour of when I called. A rental property had a complete blockage in the waste line. He rearranged his schedule so they could do the line replacement the next day. His crew began working around 9am. The waste lines for all the other houses in the neighborhood line up with the front bedroom window. That also lined up with where waste water lines were found in the house. The crew worked hard to minimize damage to the tree that my late father had planted and loved. When, after several attempts, the waste line couldn't be found, calls were made to the City offices to determine where the line actually was. While time and effort could have been saved by calling ahead, in most cases, it wouldn't have been necessary because waste lines are typically buried in a predictable fashion. My house proved to be the exception. Finding out where the waste line was actually located turned out to be good news and bad news. Instead of being to the left of the walkway to the house, it was on the right UNDER a concrete parking pad. This significantly changed the scope of the job. Again, the crew found a solution that minimized damage: instead of breaking up the entire parking pad to dig out the old line, they took out the rightmost portion of the pad, which, happily, came away cleanly, and dug a trench to the right of the clogged/collapsed portion of the line. They found the waste line close to the house, attached new pipes and then ran a new line to the right of the old line, essentially doing a bypass. I had previously spoken to another company about my waste line problem, and they didn't know their right hand from their left. I'm so glad I called Glenoak Plumbing to do this job. It needed to be done immediately and correctly. It was."

"Nathan Eagle is a pleasure to deal with. He kept in constant contact throughout the project, and updated us regularly. The subcontractors who did the electrical and excavation work were also very professional. Ours was a very complicated septic replacement, and Nathan made sure that the county approved all changes and that we understood what was happening. He ensured we were happy with the final result. His price was fair. A septic replacement is not a fun or pretty investment in your home, but for an old house (55 years on the original system), it is necessary. We no longer have to worry when there is a heavy rainstorm or when we have guests. Thank you, Nathan!"

"We needed our water heater replaced. It was somewhat complicated because we wanted to upgrade the tank in size, but we had limited room for it. There was some back and forth in finding the appropriate tank, but the salesperson and technicians were very pleasant to work with throughout the whole process. When the pipes were moved and the tank was installed, it was done efficiently and professionally. We are very happy with our experience and the final product."

FAQs for septic system installation and replacement projects in Butler, MD

The smallest standard septic system uses a 500-gallon tank, which costs between $875 and $1,150 installed. This size works well for single-occupant dwellings with minimal wastewater production. However, many local regulations specify minimum tank sizes, so check with your building department before committing to this compact option. Some jurisdictions require at least 750 gallons regardless of home size to ensure adequate waste processing capacity.

The installation timeline varies based on site conditions, permit processing, and contractor schedules. The process includes obtaining permits, conducting soil tests, excavation, tank placement, leach field construction, and final connections. Weather conditions, soil challenges, and inspection scheduling can all affect the overall timeline. It's wise to begin planning well in advance of when you need the system operational.

The most economical approach is to install a conventional anaerobic system with a plastic tank. To minimize costs while maintaining legality, obtain multiple quotes from licensed installers, consider scheduling during their slower seasons, and handle basic site preparation yourself. Never skip permits or required testing to save money—illegal installations can result in significant fines and mandatory removal, ultimately costing far more than doing it right initially.

Regular pumping helps prevent system failures and extends operational life. Most small systems require pumping every three to five years, though frequency depends on household size and usage patterns. Pumping services cost between $290 and $530, making this maintenance expense relatively minor compared to potential repair costs ranging from $500 to $2,600 for neglected systems. Establishing a regular maintenance schedule based on your installer's recommendations helps avoid costly emergency services.
