"The Groundworks folks (formerly Bay Area Underpinning) applied their foundation-underpinning technology and expertise to extend to bedrock, level, square up the foundation for an extensive house remodel. I was most impressed by the young man onsite supervisor, Josh who answered all my work done, how and why questions. I wish this info was provided up front by the estimator. (My design-build remodel contractor referred this company). "

"A&R Plumbing was super. We had used them in the past and were very happy with them. We switched to another provider for awhile and were not as happy with the results (they weren't bad, but A&R is much superior). Scott was wonderful. He arrived within the 2 hour window they gave us. He was very respectful, gave very clear explanations, was very careful to present the costs before work was begun, and indicated where some uncertainty was as the tub problem wasn't obvious until he got under the house. We were delighted that they were able to start immediately after reviewing the issues and making a recommendation. They completed the work in just a few hours. Very impressive. <br /> We're back to being A&R customers for good. <br />"

"There really isn't much to say about the drain cleaning other than I had a clog, I called them, they came when they said they would and now I don't have a clog. Can't ask for more than that. I also had a complete shower enclosure installed and the job was top notch. No cutting corners here. Rest assured the job will be done right the first time. I was really impressed with the quality of work. Lastly, I had a water heater relocated from the house to the garage. Once again, everything was expertly installed. Very impressive work and they left the job cleaner than when they arrived. You will not be disappointed. <br />"

"Drew from Legacy Plumbing came out IMMEDIATELY to our rescue because not only were all toilets and showers unusable because water would flood downstairs but we had a birthday get-together with family happening within the hour. Drew was very knowledgeable and quickly fixed our clog and we needed a replacement part for an obvious leak. Legacy Plumbing is super honest, and you don't feel like you're getting ripped off with unnecessary b.s.. This is the second time we've called and because of the great job he did on our last major issue with our old pipes, we called him again. The cleanliness, effeciency, and honesty of this company is why I felt compelled to rave about them and let people know in a review. Definitely my plumber and business to recommend from here on out."

"We hired System Pavers Fremont to remove an old slanted concrete driveway and pathway and design and install a whole new backyard path, and patio. We couldn't be happier. Nick Lehr and Adrian O'Donoghue were awesome in the design phase, and helped us figure out how to plan it and deal with some complicated drainage issues. The crew that did all the work were diligent, clean and most importantly did really good work. Adrian was here every day supervising the crew and was really communicative, responding to texts immediately. Couldn't recommend them more. And the price of the project was more than reasonable!"

"Reliably Professional Reliably Expensive- 5 Stars for Mario, who installed a new water heater and brought it up to code. Minus 4 stars for price gouging!!! 2200$ for a $750 water heater installed in less than 3 hours. Even with the extra parts to bring to code, materials cost less than a thousand dollars that leaves $1200 divided by 3 hrs = $400 per hour!!!!"

"John said it was a 3 month job and it only ran over by a couple of weeks. In my experience that has never happened before. They were at the house early every morning with a plan for the day that they stuck with. John is an easy going very knowledgeable about the job and how to get it done. He has a good group of guys that showed up everyday and worked very hard. He took care of the permitting and was always available to answer questions and to explain the next phase of the job. Yes, I would hire John for future construction jobs."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Carmel Valley, CA

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
