"I am an Angi's List Premium member, and I gave them a ONE star because customers need to know how this company estimates service work for your home. I needed work on my natural gas griddle. I knew exactly what needed to be done, but I myself could not do it because I was having cataract surgery, and my doctor told me to hire out, so I did. When Cottrell's two men came for the initial review, I showed them exactly how to do it, having seen the manufacturer's instructional video for this job. Both technicians agreed that the time needed to do this job was approximately 1 hour to no more than 75 minutes, but one said, "We'll put in for a two hour window." On the day of the job, it took ONLY 45 minutes; however, the bill stayed the same. I was charged for TWO FULL HOURS of labor. On this specific job, their labor amounted to $466 AN HOUR. When I talked to their service rep, it was explained, "We charge by the task." PLEASE BEWARE OF THEIR ESTIMATES! THEIR ESTIMATES WILL BE YOUR BILL! "

FAQs for window a/c unit service or relocation projects in Cayce, SC

If your window air conditioner is relatively new or of high quality, repairing it can restore optimal performance and protect your investment. However, for older units or those with ongoing issues, it might be more cost-effective to replace the unit to ensure long-term efficiency and reliability. Consider the unit's age, the severity of the problem, repair costs versus replacement, and energy efficiency ratings when making your decision. If repairs cost more than half the price of a new unit, replacement is typically the better option.

Window air conditioners last eight to ten years on average. After this time, you may notice decreased efficiency and component wear. Replacing an older unit can improve energy savings and provide updated features like remote controls and better overall performance. With proper maintenance including regular filter cleaning, coil checks, and professional servicing, you can maximize your unit's lifespan.

If your portable AC isn't cooling, it might have a refrigerant leak or a circuit malfunction that's preventing it from working properly. It's best to contact a local air conditioner contractor to inspect and repair the unit. If your AC is older and repairs don't fix the issue, replacing it might be the most effective solution.

Removing a wall-mounted AC costs $55 to $75. Completing the removal yourself at the end of each summer season, being sure to do so according to proper guidelines, keeps you within this cost range. Should you require professional assistance for removal and disposal, if you can't move the unit yourself, expect an added fee of $25 to $50 to the overall cost.
