"Quality of product installed and workmanship I am pleased with. However, post install is why I have deemed necessary to leave this review. The crew left food waste in our yard and gutters. Lawn was not adequately swept for nails and staples. Upon reinstalling my TV antenna, observed pieces of shingle, siding, aluminum flashing, nails and staples in one gutter. This prompted me to inspect all gutters, where I found more of the same. Had two exhaust vents installed for bathroom fans. The crew did not leave necessary couplers to connect provided duct to vents in attic. The project manager provided necessary couplings by personally delivering to my house which I am appreciative of. Discovered packaging material from shingles, along with shingle remnants in my attic. The sales presentation and documentation was why I chose Palmer Construction over lowest bidder, about $5000. The owner and sales person have yet to reply to my emails and/or phone messages. The project manager is the only staff who contacted me and followed up. Not how I would run my business or manage my staff. They also jeopardized an opportunity to earn an additional project. I got a new roof which hopefully will last until I move and they got my money."

"We've only had the windows installed for a couple of weeks but so far everything is perfect.   <br /> We started with a list of 5 window replacement providers that we thought we should get quotes from (Anderson Renewal, Pella, Grand Rapids Glass Block, Home Depot and 1-800 Hansens).  The first 2 interview/quotes were with Anderson and Pella.  The sales people for those two companies were very nice and knowledgeable without being to pushy.  Unfortunately their quotes were outrageously high, so high my wife and I discusses moving instead of having the windows replaced!  The 3rd interview was with Grand Rapids Glass Block and didn't go very well, we had questions about the casement windows and requested to see one but never heard back from the sales person or anyone else at Grand Rapids Glass Block.  The Home Depot Interview was good but I wasn't overly impressed with the windows.   <br /> The 1800-Hansens interview never happened because we kept hearing horror stories about them from our friends.  My wife called and canceled the meeting but they refused to take no for an answer and insisted a representative would show up.  After several minutes of arguing with them my wife finally ended up telling them if anyone shows up at our house they wouldn't be let in and hanging up.  Five minutes later we got a call from a "supervisor" at Hansens stating that someone would show up the next day.  After more shouting and threats they finally gave in and hung up.  Short story, don't even think about 1-800-Hansens unless you enjoy harassment. <br /> My 12 year old son suggested we call Polar Seal after seeing one of their commercials on TV.  I wasn't familiar with them so I checked them out on the Better Business Bureau and Angie's List sites and they looked pretty good.  The interview process was super smooth and the salesman was very informative and not pushy at all.  The windows looked to be as good as the Anderson or Pellas and cost about HALF the price.  Polar Seal also had more color options which was a nice bonus. <br /> After giving Polar Seal the go ahead they delivered and installed the windows about 5-6 weeks later.  The installation crew was very nice and courteous.  They kept us informed of how the progress was coming, when they would be showing up and also when they would be done.  They didn't leave a mess inside or outside of the house.  Everything looks excellent! <br /> We did have one small issue with a window that didn't open correctly and they sent someone immediately to fix it (no charge of course).  The fix was quick and now the window works as expected. <br /> I hadn't really heard much about Polar Seal before but I sure am glad we found out about them before we went with an inferior product or crazy expensive one. <br />"

"Brad was quick to respond to my request for an estimate of the work and coordinated the completion of the job around our schedules. Both Brad and Lauri took great care in protecting the surrounding carpet and walk ways to ensure any dust or dirt was contained on the drop cloths. The new replacement wood trim and jamb were stained and varnished perfectly to match our current wood throughout the rest of the house. We are very happy with the quality of his work and look forward to calling him again on future projects."

"Bottom line: unless you're looking specifically for someone to sell you insulation, go elsewhere.  <br /> We expected a comprehensive home energy audit. The tech that came out was punctual, clean and thorough. He gathered a lot of information, checked the attic and crawl space, took measurements and did a blower door test. Everything I would have expected. I was present for the entire visit and witnessed the blower door test - that was eye opening. He said we would be receiving a report with suggested energy savings.  <br /> What a disappointment. The report was basically a sales pitch for insulation. Not that we couldn't benefit from more insulation, but based on what I witnessed with the blower door test, added insulation is way down on the list of needs. Most of the windows are 60 years old - it was obvious that a tremendous amount of air was coming through the windows. But window replacement wasn't even suggested even though there's a whole section in the report where it could have appeared. But the biggest problem wasn't even mentioned in the report. The blower door test showed that our attic ridge vent was completely open to the living area - so outside air was freely entering the house - just like a huge open window all the time. But never mentioned.  <br /> When I questioned them about the ridge vent and windows, their answer was that they're not a window installer (but they could put me in touch with someone) and they didn't have an answer on the ridge vent. After talking with the rep, it became clear that their intent was to just sell insulation.  <br /> On the plus side, the blower door test was very informative. But unless you're there for the test and can interpret what's going on yourself, the report you get is going to be very misleading and have you spending a lot of money on insulation that might not really be in your best interest. <br />"

"They suggested the motor could be fixed but I decided that due to the age of the unit it would be better to replace it. They took the old motor unit and remotes with them which I can only assume can be reinstalled somewhere else after it's fixed I asked if there was a coupon on Angie's list and the installer did say yes but he would have to charge me for the time it took to print it. I would assume since I relinquished the old motor and remotes that I should receive a rebate on this job without further cost. Probably won't use them again or refer their services to friends. <br />"

"I was very satisfied with the windows. I was told it would be 5 weeks before it could be done but there was a last minute cancellation and it was done the day after I signed the contract. After the installation was done, they made sure everything was cleaned up and actually left my house in better condition than when they started."

"Albert was extremely helpful throughput the process from initial review and quote to updates on the project timeline. We were willing to wait due to the impact of Covid and they were communicative with the understandable delay everyone is experiencing in availability of materials. They kept us informed throughout the process. The project consisted of removal and installation of new siding, new garage doors, outdoor light fixtures, new front door and garage entry door. Michael and Josh were on site and very professional and helpful with our questions or any concerns through the process. The workmanship was excellent and you could see their attention to detail. I have had other remodelers where communication has been a nightmare but not with Albert, Michael and Josh. I also want to mention Barry who was very diligent in figuring out a wiring problem with one of our light fixtures to ensure it worked properly. They were very meticulous in every detail and it shows. Will definitely use them for future projects."

"Very satisfied with the entire installation. Stained window interiors matched our oak woodwork perfectly. Great looking windows and slider. The slider came with the wrong hardware. The correct hardware was obtained without any fuss and installed. Windows are expensive compared to other companies, but the end result was well worth the cost. It was all complete in 2 days. All workmen were very friendly."

FAQs for new windows service projects in Charlotte, MI

Yes, bay windows add value to a home. They enhance the property by expanding the interior space and flooding rooms with natural light. Their unique three-panel design creates a stunning focal point that elevates curb appeal and modernizes living areas. This architectural detail increases both functional space and visual appeal, directly contributing to higher home resale value.

Yes, all window types have the potential to become part of a bay window configuration when modified correctly. The transformation involves reconfiguring standard windows into a multi-panel design that features a larger central window flanked by smaller ones. This process requires precise professional planning and custom framing to ensure durability, visual balance, and structural integrity.

Bay windows typically consist of three glass panels extending beyond the home's exterior walls, with a larger center panel flanked by two smaller ones. In contrast, bow windows are composed of four to six equally sized glass panels that create a gentle curve and do not extend as far from the exterior walls.

Bay windows cost more than standard windows because their expansive, multi-panel design requires additional materials and skilled labor. Their construction involves extra glass, specialized frame components that extend outward, and complex operating mechanisms. These technical demands necessitate precise engineering and multiple expert installations, thereby significantly increasing both material and labor expenses.

Bay windows cost three times more than standard double-hung windows because their design requires extra panels, expanded framing, and a more complex installation process. The advanced construction method increases material consumption and demands comprehensive expertise, while specialized window treatments further elevate expenses. This all results in a significant difference in overall project cost.
