"We used Radon Abatement Services for our basement. The radon levels were slightly over the EPA recommended limit. We mitigated the radon as part of a larger basement renovation. Radon Abatement Services worked with our General Contractor and did a great job. Radon levels are vastly reduced now as a result of their work."

"<p>I think I found them on Angie's List. They have been fantastic during our home renovation process. I keep putting them on hold, but I have built a relationship with them and they have been so patient and good throughout the whole thing. They have come out multiple times to help me with our previous contractor and current contractor for the remodeling. They have been great. They came out, met with my new contractor and it cost me nothing. They have been in constant contact with me regarding the status. They prepared for the states when I asked them to be ready to do the asbestos abatement. That was a part of the first stage of my remodeling project. Their pricing has been very reasonable. They did an assessment not just of the cost for the work, which they revised based on what the insurance company had told them to change. They have engaged with the insurance company, they have engaged with my remodelers and have come out without even charging us. The work that we have paid them for was just one time testing. This was the second test versus the first test we had. They do asbestos testing and asbestos removal.    </p>"

"I called Rodolfo on a Friday because my radon mitigation system (installed by a different company) was in need of repair. He was able to come by the next day, on Saturday morning, and quickly identified the problem and was able to fix it."

"It went very well. I HIGHLY recommend Home Detective. You can tell from the first phone contact with Robert that he knows what is doing. <br /> He was very professional on the phone and during the inspection. <br /> <br /> Robert thoroughly inspected every corner of the house and found areas of concern including gas leak, running toilet, water damage in the kitchen and much more which can be easily overlooked  <br /> <br /> More importantly, he showed me how save a lot of money on utilities bills (electric and water) and  took the time to explain every aspect of the findings. Frankly, this inspection was like a training session for me. Robert is knowledgeable and passionate about what it does. <br /> <br /> I will do business again with Robert and Highly recommend him to every one."

"The offer we placed on our new home was accepted shortly before we were to leave on vacation, so we needed to set up our inspection under an even shorter time frame. Cynthia was very pleasant and extremely responsive. She emailed me a copy of her contract so I could review it in advance, and did the inspection within a few days of us contacting her. She was early on the day of the inspection and was completely prepared. She encouraged us to ask questions and was very thorough in how she explained things. She crawled through our attic, climbed all over our roof, and looked at nearly every square inch of our home. She did not charge us for the termite inspection, and I thought her rates were very reasonable. We got her electronic home inspection report the same day, filled with pictures and descriptions. The faucet was on in one of the sinks when she turned the water on, so she came back the next day to take a sample when it had been sitting, just to be sure it was accurate. She even gave us a home care booklet and homemade cookies when the inspection was completed. We also needed an inspection of our underground oil tank, and she referred us to another provider who performed these. We could not have been happier with our experience and would recommend Homes by Cynthia to anyone. <br />"

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"The inspection was scheduled to start at 1:00 and it did. Everything was checked from the roof down to the basement. The final report was extremely comprehensive and organized by "need to fix right away", "pay attention to", "maintenance items" and "ask the current owner about". Pictures were included of everything he looked at. This was the most thorough inspection we've ever had when buying a house, and while nothing he found was a show stopper I feel comfortable if there were serious problems he would have found them. We will use this company again if we move. <br />"

"Great job! Dave was very professional and thorough.  He shared details about the house and mechanical systems that are important for making informed decisions about the purchase. I would use this service again. My realtor was also impressed."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Charlotte Hall, MD

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
